When I got to Manchester thursday morning I stopped by a gas station to stretch and whatnot and picked up a paper to catch some of the outside buzz going around about Bonnaroo. The front page was talking about the coffee county cops and even the government getting cuts off of the drug money being made at Bonnaroo..... I lost the paper over the weekend and honestly don't remember a lot about the article..... Anyone else know anything about it?
I think instead of arresting some folks and bringing them in to court, I think they were ticketing and fining them instead. I could be wrong, but that was the jist that I got.
I just read an article that said Coffee County made 58 arrests over the weekend for a variety of charges. I don't know how many fines were handed out, but that is a very low arrest count for 80,000 people plus workers and artists.

That's pretty accurate from what I saw as well. I think they arrested all the dealers they caught, and the rest they just issued citations carrying hefty fines.

For possession they would take all your cash, and your stash, and issue you a fine. I never heard any arrests, I saw one arrest because a dude was freaking out hardcore on Shakedown Street but that was about it...

Woah, they took all your money?? That seems a bit... illegal, or something. I mean, issuing you a fine is legit but doing that and on top of that taking all your money from you that's just ridiculous... I hope either you're mistaken or I'm misinterpreting, cause I know i would be furious if I was caught with possession on thursday night and they took all my cash for the rest of the festival.
somebody in our camp (forgot the number and name, it was right under Pod 8) said that someone was coming around posing as an undercover and trying to get people to pay on the spot fines.

I saw a cop tell a dude camped next to me that if he gave him all the cash he had (which was ~$400) that he wouldn't do shit and would let him keep his stash.... but reading that there was someone going around posing as an officer that could have just been the same situation... I actually caught a few "cops" doing that throughout the weekend.

there weren't ANY cops in bonnaroo from what I know, the only people with badges were the fire department.... I was all over roo back on production road everywhere never saw a cop... so people posting about that makes me mad, and why should it matter, they are only out to get vendors with large amounts anyways....

Yeah, I was camped there and this DID happen. It was an undercover sheriff (or deputy sheriff, whatever they call themselves).

Too late, most of us have been now - I think there might have been a guy smoking a joint near us, I couldn't believe it! Insanity! Blasphemy! Why wasn't he packed in near the stage at the This Tent all weekend! He must not have come for the music!

Sunday night I was walking from POD 9 (The REAL Shakedown) over to my site which was near POD 6 & 7. As I was walking on the paved road (Bushy Branch, right?) I saw a little lot that was fenced off and three cop cars parked there and they were handing out some kind of fine to some chick. I don't know if they had just arrived because many people were leaving or if they had been there all along, but I saw 'em. Like I said before though, I never was hurt by this.

Me and my buddy were puffing a bowl at our campsite in Pod 8 and a dickhead undercover with a bandanna and a tie dye flashes his badge and takes our pipe and bag and writes us a citation for $406 fucking dollars. Roo was great musically, but the vibe from the first few that made them so magical is gone and forgotten unfortunately. And not because i got a ticket, but because of the security lines to get in, the hasseling by cops and security, the friendliness of the staff. Those of you who weren't there for the first two have no idea how much it has changed. It's still the best fest in the states for music, which is why I will continue to go. But the magic is gone. Can't believe i feel this way but i do.
On my way too Roo, in West Tennesee off hwy 64, there were like 6 cops pulling over any car on there way to roo. We were one of the lucky ones, they asked to search our car, we said no, they said they would bring the drug dogs out, threatened us to go to jail, we turned over our stash (less than 1/4), and they issued us a 1000$ fine and court date. this was way higher than I ever thought a simple possesion fine could be, and the way the pulled us over (basically profiling), coerced and harrassed us, was insane. Is this legal, is there anything we can do about it? did anyone else have the same experience?

well you shouldn't of given in when they threatened the dogs. They were trying to trick you to give up your stash. They aren't allowed to hold you there to wait on the dogs. Next time say that you don't have time to wait that you really have to get to your destination. Then ask for your citation.

It was definately different this year. Wish it would've been the same but things change. What can ya do?

Checking into a Las Vegas hotel under a phony name with the intent to commit capital fraud with a head full of acid? I certainly hope so...

who cares about the drug talk rule? people are upset because the roo suddenly became a fest with tough security and allowed asshole undercovers to ruin people's time when all we did was the same thing that has been goin on since '02. Again, had a blast and still love the roo. But it was unfair and unnecessary to have such increased security from one year to the next, especially since they now own the land. Lame.

No need to feel bad for me. Just don't get "mad" that people are posting and reporting the truth. This was a huge moneyrake at our expense. And they weren't targeting dealers, or even people who were being stupid or blatant. Walking undercovers through camps and searching tents (they did this after issuing our ticket) is inexcusable. Really pisses me off.
