I guess what I'm saying is...if it's billed as The Dungeon Family and it's #1 on the bill, they sure as hell better get Andre to show up, or they're gonna have some upset fucking people on their hands (although I don't think I'll be one of them, because even without Outkast, a prospective Dungeon Family showcase sounds intriguing as hell).
Post by itrainmonkeys on Feb 13, 2011 21:19:35 GMT -5
They could bill them on the lineup as separate acts (with Outkast possibly taking the #1 or 2 spot) and then just book them as three close-together sets. Not saying this will happen and I've been one of the people who thinks there's no way we'll get Outkast in 2011. Just saying that if they somehow made it happen it would be pretty big for Bonnaroo.
Can't go into detail about my source, but the Saturday headliner is a Dungeon Family showcase. Big Boi, Janelle Monae and Cee-lo are the big names confirmed so far. Others are in negotiations including Andre 3000. Not here to argue if you don't believe me. We'll sort that out Tuesday
How would this fly as a headliner unless it were billed as Outkast & Friends? Especially if it were #1 on the bill. I feel like "Dungeon Family Showcase" or even just "Dungeon Family" would look odd and confuse people as the top name on the bill.
If it's billed as The Dungeon Family and Three Stacks doesn't show up, that's gonna be very disappointing.
This. It'd just be a confusing name at the top of the poster... Plus if they're in talks with Andre why would they not just put Outkast at the top and have Cee-Lo and Janelle Monae do sets during the day? Makes more sense

If they got Andre, it makes total sense. Have Outkast #1 on the bill, then have Monae and Cee-Lo lower on the lineup. Their sets could be close together, as ITM said.
But that poster made it seem as though they haven't gotten Andre yet, but are rather in negotiations with Andre. In which case, they'll probably have to bill Big Boi, Cee-Lo, and Monae as "The Dungeon Family" at #1, hint that the guests could include Andre 3000, and pray to god that they get him to come. Be interesting to see how all this plays out. But it seems plausible to me (minus the part where an Andre-less Dungeon Family has the biggest show of the festival) and the reasons why it seems plausible continue to pile up every day.
I could see a tent having a lineup of Janelle Monae, Cee Lo, and Big Boi but I don't know about Outkast.
This is more realistic.
Two weeks ago, I would've agreed. But I'm beginning to think that Outkast is a real possibility. Maybe my optimism is clouding my judgment, but it seems to make a healthy amount of sense right now. We'll see on Tuesday.
On a side note, Mumford and Sons and The Avett Brothers just made the grammys somewhat relevant. Nice to see some good music being exposed to the masses. Arcade Fire up later!

i dont care if im wrong because i like all of those aritists and it would be cool and unique to Bonnaroo but i am not buying it right now. too many questions and what ifs. this person has one post and this is the first time weve heard CeeLo or Janelle Monae mentioned at all. on top of that everyone has speculated OutKast but ultimately shoot it down as unrealistic because of Andre 3k seems so improbable, but now hes all of the sudden in? the name on the bill is also a question
how the hell would this be a headliner without Outkast's name attached to it?
theres also another poster who has been here for a long time and lives in TN saying information directly conflicting that this is possible.

For those who haven't been keeping score, here's some evidence and/or hearsay that points positively to the possibility of The Dungeon Family and/or Outkast:
a) Bonnaroo 2011 needs a name at the top of the bill. Very few hip-hop acts (Jay-Z, Kanye West, Kanye West & Jay-Z together, Eminem (or Eminem & Dre), and Outkast) could top the bill.
b) The Saturday night headliner is a hip-hop act. Very few hip-hop acts could land the biggest timeslot of the whole fest (see above).
c) Radio stations have been whispering rumors lately of The Dungeon Family touring again soon (admittedly, this is not worth much).
d) Cee-Lo may owe AC Entertainment a lot of money for bailing on Moogfest. He may have called some of his friends to help bail him out of this.
e) Ashley Capps has said there are a few "once-in-a-lifetime" shows on the bill. Now, this may or may not refer to a headliner, but Outkast would qualify as a once-in-a-lifetime show.
f) Big Boi will definitely be at Bonnaroo.
Admittedly, some of these are more speculative and less credible than others, but you guys have to admit: Outkast seems a bit more likely now than they did two weeks ago.

Huh? I'm a little confused by this...there's another poster saying that Outkast is a possibility? You don't have to tell us who if you don't want, but did he or she tell you via PM?
Also, another thing to consider: the artist that AC signed Saturday night that Ashley Capps got excited about and, according to him, "put the line-up over the top" could've been Andre 3000. Just sayin'.

Why does Outkast qualify as a "once in a lifetime" show?
They've both been quoted multiple times talking about how they will eventually reform the group in some capacity (new album, tour, something).

I don't doubt that Cee-Lo and Big Boi could tour together under the banner of Dungeon Family. It's just I doubt Andre 3000 would do it. And without Andre 300, there's no Outkast. And without Outkast, there's no headliner potential.

Because it would be an epic-as-fuck reunion of an artist that has one of the most diverse and universal fanbases ever.

OUTKAST 2011: I Want To Believe
(but I don't)
Fuck it. You win, Ricardo. Sig changed.
(btw...your name isn't really Ricardo, is it? I just remember seeing Airline call you that and I thought it was funny.)

With all of that said, you have brought up some very valid evidence as to why they will not be there.
A) Eminem is at Lolla. He is the only logical choice who currently has the stage production to back the top spot.
B) Eminem fits here to.
C) Radio stations still get inside information? Radio still exists?
D) Cee-lo plays a solo set. Everything is square.
E) Promotors speak promotor language. Of course he said this and I'm sure he is right, but why do we automatically assume the rare performances are booked in one of the headlining slots. Check the tents.
F) Exactly why outkast will not be at roo. Why would they book a reunion now? This would completely overshadow Big Boi's solo performance and concentrating on solo projects is the ONLY reason Outkast ever took a break.
Move on.

I wouldn't believe it if there weren't a handful of hints right now that suggest an Outkast/Dungeon Family appearance.
It's not just because some person created an account and told us they'd be the Saturday night headliner. There's more to it than that. I'm not a moron.
theres also another poster who has been here for a long time and lives in TN saying information directly conflicting that this is possible.

No i forgot his username and the thread but one of the posters whos been on here longer than I and from Manchester said that it will be Eminem and Dre in JayZ's timeslot from last year
werent you convinced it would be BEP not long ago?

You could be right. I'm just saying that it's more believable now than it was a few weeks ago. That's all I'm saying. I still don't expect Outkast or The Dungeon Family to be on the lineup.
Just pointing out why it's not ridiculous to consider them a possibility any more.
