So it says that they're aiming to do this in "the middle of the country". I'm sure with their pull and whatnot they could get big names like Neil Young and Tom Petty and KOL and whatnot. How big do you think this could get if it's a 2 or 3 day festival? Who else could they get? Thoughts?

08 was my first year, and I didn't honestly feel like I could fit in with the festial crowd...but I've been back every year since. I could see this taking place in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin or even in the Araksas area with Eddie's ties to the WM3. I keep seeing online that their long time manager Kelly Curtis said "If Phish can do it, so can Pearl Jam". If he's comparing the two from a fest standpoint...is he saying they're going to play for 2-3 nights in a row?
Also, I would think the ticket prices could also be much less than Roo tickets...this could kind of put a damper on Roo depending on all the circumstances.

It won't affect Roo. It won't be as big production wise and being in the middle of country it won't draw anyone away from Roo that Lollapalooza would. It will probably have a good lineup, but not a huge Roo like one, and certainly not as diverse. I would expect 2 days of music, but I suppose three is possible. Tickets will be cheaper, but there will be, probably, less than half the amount of music and I doubt late nights similar to Bonnaroo's. Depending on the venue there might not be camping either.

It may or may not be a camping venue. I don't see this being a big festival, maybe only one stage, but I doubt more than two stages, probably no more than two days.

I would love to go, but I'm not expecting it to be with 10 driving hours so that pretty much counts me out. Also, by the end of the summer I've usually exhausted most of my expendable finances.

That's weird that they're comparing to a Phish festie. Phish doesn't have any other acts during their fests. Just multiple sets. I find this intriguing but probably not something I'd go to.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
So if the lineup was Pearl Jam, Neil Young, and REM, with Pete Townsend, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper opening, its still not something you would go to?

You are thinking way too big on the other acts man. Those guys would want to be headliners not openers for Pearl Jam.
@qs
Phish does not have any other bands, but you get 2 shows a day and a secret show. Though the one I went to in Maine had a couple of side bands as well.

Phish had other bands at Oswego in 1999: Del McCoury Band played a set, Ozomatli played a set, Son Seals played a set.
And I think you mean that you get 2 SETS a day, not shows. And even then, don't most Phish festival shows include three sets of music, not 2? I haven't really paid attention to the most recent Phish fests (since IT, probably) so I have no idea.
IT is more recent than me I did the Great Went and Lemonwheel. They were both 3 set shows, but had other bands. For some reason I thought when they stopped having other bands they started doing an afternoon set/show as well.
Edit
I thought wrong

Thanks for the correction. I had no idea that they had other bands. I am curious to see the level of talent that they'd be willing to pay for this fest.

well I just listed those 5 acts, as all 5 of them are tight with Eddie Vedder, I doubt that would be a realistic lineup.
I could see a Jack Johnson opener, and Neil guesting unannounced. Past that I think you might see 2 or 3 smaller bands a day. Stuff from the middle of the Bonnaroo lineup, not cafe acts but stuff you would see at the Hi-Tone.
Please no green river. But, if you go that route, I think Pearl Jam would probably headline all three nights, with Eddie Vedder solo as an opener for 1 night, Stone Gossard opening 1 night, and Brad opening 1 night, which would be awesome.
I posted this in another thread in response to someone saying they had a source that the festival was to be held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Not saying it definitely won't be there, but I emailed them last night with this:
"Hello, I am trying to find information on your website regarding the Pearl Jam festival to be held on the grounds this summer, but I have not been able to locate the information. Could you please let me know the dates as well as if camping rates will be any different?"
I got a response this morning from someone in Human Resources:
"Hello Brian, I’ve spoken with our entertainment coordinators and it does not appear that we are hosting a Pearl Jam festival. I am interested in where that information may have come from. I conducted a search and am not finding any tour dates for them. Sorry for any disappointment this may have caused."
Details are still being worked out, but it will probably be a two-day event involving multiple bands and Pearl Jam headlining both nights. “We’ve played enough festivals that we know what makes them exciting,” says Ament. “We want to give people places to go that aren’t necessarily musical – second stages and all that kind of stuff. We’re asking our friends if they want to play a couple of shows with us.”
The group plans special sets at the festival, but don't expect to hear any of their classic albums performed straight through. "We talk about that stuff," says Ament. "For me, personally, it starts to become a little bit of a nostalgia thing. I remember we once did Ten start to finish and it didn't work very well because it was kind of a little bit too down...I think we did a good enough job of mixing up the sets every night that we give people a taste of every record."
