It has recently been decided by Ol' Dirty Brooklyn that a few pages of off topic discussion the "2011 Headline Speculation" thread must be locked and replaced by a far less substantial thread. He thinks that a few pages of letting off steam means that 6 months and 160 pages of discussion should be tossed away and replaced by some rookie 6 page thread. Us, members of the community that is Inforoo, should not stand for this. At this very moment the Mod Squad is voting on whether the real thread should receive the death plenty and be locked for eternity or if it should be reopened for all to enjoy. All I ask from you is to personal ask each and everyone for our fine moderators to vote for the clearly correct option: to free the "2011 Headline Speculation" thread.
The easiest way to accomplish this is to send a PM to all the mods. I have written a template letter that you can copy and paste or if you are inspired please write your own.
I have recently learned that the moderators of this great message board are currently voting on the fate of the "2011 Headline Speculation" thread. It is my belief that a few pages of off-topic discussion does not warrant a lock. I am begging of you to vote for the obviously correct option to allow the thread to remain a hot-spot of intelligent, thoughtful discussion mostly pertaining the the possible headliners the will perform at Bonnaroo 2011.
Thank You, ___________
Along with letter I would ask you to join me in boycotting the impostor headliner discussion thread. Please my fellow Inforoosters let your voices be heard and help Free 2011 Headline Speculation now!!!!

the hillbilly powers that be decided that a thread which discriminates against one of inforoo's finest posters, nodepression, deserved to remain in existence moreso than the one he spent countless hours pouring his blood, sweat, tears, and other bodily fluids into
who cares... its not like theres not a new thread. why does it have to be that one?
We have put 6 months and 160 pages of our hard work and passionate ideas and speculation in the real thread. The new thread does not contain the same greatness and tradition. If the Yankees were to leave New York and a AAA team replaced them would fans be saying "its ok we have a new team"? No!

Its not like anything revolutionary came out of the original thread. I didn't plan on going back over it for nostalgia. We all know about where we are, so its not like we have to have it all written down and visible. Create a summary page if its a big deal and get bigman to update the OP or feel free to start discussing something that may have already been covered if you want, otherwise lets just keep it moving.
A disagreement on speculation of the headliners needing multiple threads .... This is a prime example how bad this board needs a leak, just to have something to talk about.
Yeah I miss the old thread. It got off topic, but that's what happens when like minded people just talk. You start talking about one thing, it leads to another, then you come back to the first. It was fun creating 160 pages of rambling.
I don't care what happens to the threads. I'm assuming that once we know something substantial that we'll start up a Confirmed thread, right?
For the most part, the speculation threads all seem pretty similar: 'I like this band and they should play.' or 'This band was awesome and they broke up twenty years ago but they should play.' or 'This band that you like sucks and doesn't belong at Bonnaroo.' Lather, rinse, repeat....

Well yea, that's kind of the way a speculation board works.
Confirmation thread is the rumored and quasi confirmation thread. I just don't think anything is really confirmed until it's on the lineup, so I'm not going to put anything under confirmed until February.

Then what is the point of having confirmation in the title. Why not name it The lineup thread after it is released?

It is a pretty valid point dude. Sorry if being accurate bothers you all that much.

I think it's a valid point. We've got speculation and then rumoured and quasi-confirmation. I think that the line between speculation and rumoured is pretty gray and that makes both topics pretty interchangeable. (In fact, speculating about an artist basically makes them rumoured.)
I think it makes sense to have a confirmed thread that links to an artist's website or a confirmation from a legit publication that states that an artist is playing in addition to all the rumour/speculation pages. Jess is right - there's no reason for a "confirmed" thread once the line up has been released.

I guess unless the band posts they're playing I'm not going to post it.
No band has confirmed officially they're playing, so I'm not posting.
Edit: Also the rumored thread is different than a speculation thread. I don't post anything as rumored unless a member here has heard from management, the band, or is someone in the know.
Edit: If you want to make a thread fine, but it seems pretty much a duplicate of the thread I already have and update regularly.

I am not arguing that you don't have a means of differentiating between rumours and speculation.in terms of what you put in the OP. What I meant was that the 30+ pages that follow include as much speculation as rumours. (These are then reported on various blogs and fan-run websites that report them, leading people to link those back here and turn them into rumours.)
Personally, while I don't care if people want to talk about their favorite bands or who they think would be a good fit (and I'm guilty of it as well) because this is a music and festival forum and that's to be expected, but I generally steer clear of those threads. I visit a thread like rumours and quasi-confirmations because I am genuinely interested in who will actually be there and am willing to endure some rumours that may not pan out in order to find out more about this year's festival.
I don't know if that differentiation makes sense or not, but that's the reason I expressed an opinion about this at all.
Also, to try and steer the conversation towards actual discussion and not people being rude or demeaning others. We're seeing a disheartening increase in that around here of late and it bums me out.
