I don't live there of course, but I've been traveling a bit lately and I always get nice, cheap hotel rooms through Hotwire. You only know the general area of them, the star rating and the amenities before you buy. However, we've always ended up with nice places if we choose 3 stars or above.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Does she want walking distance or driving distance? If she wants walking distance it will be 100+ a room. If driving just get a cheapie off of Whitebridge/Charlotte it should be 50 or so.
I would suggest getting a hotel that's NOT within walking distance (even if they aren't all booked, they will be expensive) and just taking a cab downtown. Any of the hotels near the airport are decent.
The last time I went up to nashville, it was to take my girlfriend to reba. We stayed at the holiday inn express, and it was like $100 or so. The bitch of it all was that they wanted me to pay for parking, like $20 bucks, to park in their parking lot, when im paying for a room already. I grilled the manager pretty hard about it, and told him that I would find a different hotel. Eventually he offered to give me a free guest parking pass.
Anywho, the Holiday Inn is an easy walk to the bridgestone. Also, while we were there, we ate at Merchants on Broadway. The food was pretty damn good, not terribly expensive, and close to the bridgestone.

Well, I figure people who live in Nashville have friends that visit/hear a lot about the ups and downs of local establishments/have probably stayed in a hotel downtown a time or two to go to shows and whatnot. Either way, apparently I was asking the right people.
I guess it depends on how much your SIL wants to pay for a hotel. I'm personally more about cheap than luxury; the nicer hotels are downtown, moderately comfy yet clean hotels are near the Airport (Donelson Pike, Elm Hill Pike, and the like). Cabs around town are relatively cheap and can save your SIL big bucks if she doesn't want to pay for a super nice hotel within walking distance.
Also, they are going to have free parking at LP Field for these shows. You can take a shuttle ($3 each way or $6 roundtrip) to the Bridgestone or walk about 15 minutes to get there. We did this for the Paul McCartney show (took the shuttle) and it was awesome!

I think that's probably exactly what they'll do. They won the tickets yesterday, so they weren't really expecting a sudden trip this weekend. I told her about the airport-relative hotels and she said that sounded a lot better than the ones they had checked on downtown.

When we stay overnight in Nashville we always book a room at The Best Western Convention Center thru Expedia. It is usually around $80 and just a few blocks away from the Bridgstone Arena. It's not super super nice, but it is always clean and they have free valet parking.
