I already booked a hotel. Ended up with the SAME hotel I stayed in last year, 15 miles away at the Knights Inn Bennington because prices are hiked up or hotels are booked. But the drive is gorgeous and the fest starts late enough and ends early enough that it doesn't matter much (unless you like to party hard enough that driving is not an option).
They will have packages available I'm sure. But the room I booked was 60 bucks a night compared to over 100 for the package hotel (if I remember correctly). If you can afford to, pick up a package with the Holiday Inn in N. Adams, or Porches. The artists stayed at these two sites and some partied with everyone at the Holiday Inn after the shows last year.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Hey, whaddya know, we stayed at the same motel last year.
I am absolutely going to this again - no way I'm going to miss it, last year was amazing. Wilco's probably my favorite band in today's music scene, and it's a pretty easy drive from the other end of the state (~3 hours). I haven't booked a hotel room yet - I just finished up school and need to find a job first before I can justify spending a couple hundred bucks on something pretty frivolous - but if worst comes to worst, there are plenty of campgrounds in the area. The tickets weren't ridiculously expensive last year (about a hundred bucks) so that's no problem. Man, it's still six months away and I'm already thinking about this way too much.
I highly advise any and all Wilco fans to check this out. And also check out the other stuff going on there, too! The museum is fantastic, and two of the coolest things from last year were Glenn's tour of the interactive drumhead installation and Nels' guitar pedal station (also interactive... although I missed his lecture on it to see Vetiver and On Fillmore instead). Also, for those of you who collect vinyl, make sure to bring some extra dough because they had a record stall last year with a really great selection. I can't wait for round two!

Wilco with 2 headlining shows, a comedy thing with John Hodgman, camping, and a pop-up record store. sweet
Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival – an intimate three day celebration of music, comedy, art and community – returns to MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA June 24 – 26. Envisioned by Wilco and presented in collaboration with MASS MoCA, America’s largest center for contemporary art, this year’s festival boasts two headline concerts by Wilco, a comedy cabaret hosted by John Hodgman, the new Solid Ground tent site for nearby camping, a Euclid Records pop-up store, a wide array of all-ages programming and much more. Tickets are on sale 11am EST this Friday, Jan. 21 through the festival’s official website SolidSoundFestival.com, through the MASS MoCA box office and through massmoca.org. See below for complete details on tickets, including early-bird pricing, single-day tickets, free and reduced-fee ticketing for children and more.

Definitely making my return to this. The two most exciting details from this press release?
1) Wilco playing two shows this year instead of just one (although Jeff Tweedy "solo" on Sunday last year had 2/3rds of Wilco on stage at points). 2) A camping area nearby, which means I get to enjoy more than just one or two glasses of their Magic Hat on tap. ;D
I'm wondering who the undercard acts are going to be, or if there's going to expand Friday night at all.
The 2011 Solid Sound lineup thus far: Wilco (Fri. & Sat.), the Levon Helm Band, Thurston Moore, Syl Johnson & the Sweet Divines, Here We Go Magic, Dave Douglas & Brass Ecstasy, Pillow Wand (Nels Cline/Thurston Moore duo), Handsome Family, Liam Finn, Sic Alps, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion, Glenn Kotche, Pronto, the Autumn Defense, Comedy Cabaret curated by John Hodgman featuring Wyatt Cenac, Eugene Mirman & Morgan Murphy, plus the return of the Story Pirates — all at the largest contemporary art museum in the country with the backdrop of the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts.

I don't know a ton of the bands but i'm sure I'd like some of them. Wilco + Levon Helm Band is a great top two acts and would be worth the price of the current ticket to me. Just not sure if I can handle this one.
Oh man, oh man, oh man.... so let me get this straight. Not only are there two Wilco sets this year, but also Thurston Moore, Levon Helm, Here We Go Magic and Liam Finn? MUST GO! Roo is my top priority for festivals this year, but I'll sure as hell be trying my damnedest to make it back to this as well. I'm going to be broke as hell by the end of June, but it'll be so worth it.
And it looks like my suspicions about an expanded Friday night were correct, with a Wilco show that night - the biggest acts who played Friday night last year were Pronto and Deep Blue Organ Trio. I'm so hoping I can make this!
EDIT: Last year's schedule was set up so there were few to no conflicts - most bands played unopposed, except for comedy. I wonder if they're going to do that again.
Oh, and... North Adams is awesome. Mass MoCA is awesome. Make sure to check them both out while you're there.

Just got my ticket and booked my campsite this afternoon - it's official! It looks very doubtful I'll be able to make it to Roo this year, so this is the next best thing. If this year is half as good as last year, it will still be one of the best weekends of live music in 2011... and that shouldn't be hard to pull off, considering there are two Wilco shows this time, as well as a campground. Gah, I'm so excited.... roll on June!
Oh, and.... 3,000th post. And it only took three years!
The other manager at my workplace is going to gay pride in NYC that weekend, meaning theres a very slim chance of me being able to do this It's so close I was hoping to be able to catch it.
I still don't know if I can justify paying $125 for a 3 day pass when I know i'll only be able to go for one of the days.
freakin a.
I just got my ticket for 101.00 after fees. If you type in Wilco in the promo box, it changes the ticket to Early Worm prices. I think it's just a 24 hour thing they are doing on their Facebook. That's still a lot for one day. Just letting you know.

I wish. If they move it back to August next year there might be a possibility I can make this. 2 weeks after Bonnaroo means I'm just broke.
But wait... I thought you said that 2011 would be your last Bonnaroo for at least a couple of years? If you can't make it next year, I may have to round up a posse of Inforoo members to help kidnap you for a few days.

All I can say is wow. This is such an incredible festival - I can't recommend this strongly enough to anybody who's a Wilco fan, or really just a fan of many types of music in general.
Friday night was very good (and very rainy), but Saturday was incredible. Only two song repeats from the previous night, both new ones. Here are the setlists:
Friday:
—”Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” intro— I Might (new song - live full-band debut) Misunderstood Bull Black Nova Muzzle of Bees I Am Trying to Break Your Heart> One Wing Via Chicago Whole Love (new song - live debut) Hotel Arizona Impossible Germany Shouldn’t Be Ashamed Handshake Drugs Radio Cure Born Alone (new song - live full-band debut) Poor Places> Reservations> Spiders (Kidsmoke) Walken I’m The Man Who Loves You —————– Red-Eyed and Blue> I Got You (At The End of the Century) I Got You [Split Enz] (feat. Neil Finn on electric guitar and vocals)
Saturday:
I Love My Label (Nick Lowe cover) Dawned On Me (new song - live debut) A Shot in the Arm Side With The Seeds Company In My Back I’ll Fight War On War At Least That’s What You Said It’s Just That Simple What Light Can’t Stand It Standing O? (new song - live debut) Jesus, etc. Hummingbird I Might (new song) Box Full Of Letters Hate It Here You Never Know (feat. Liam Finn on electric guitar and backing vocals) Born Alone (new song) —————————- The Late Greats Heavy Metal Drummer Passenger Side California Stars (feat. Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion on vocals and tambourine) Airline To Heaven Monday> Outtasite (Outta Mind)> Hoodoo Voodoo (feat. bass-guitar-keyboard tech Josh on cowbell - LLL, SFA and I were trying to figure out who that guy was)
Other highlights for me included Levon Helm, JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound (featuring Jeff Tweedy on his IATTBYH cover), Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion (surprise unplugged set in one of the galleries was beautiful), Thurston Moore (LLL, SFA and I were in the front row for this one - as in, our elbows were resting on the stage), Syl Johnson & The Sweet Divines, and Glenn Kotche solo. Levon brought out Wilco to help him close his set with I Shall Be Released > The Weight, which was pretty much the perfect end to an already beautiful weekend. I saw lots of other great stuff too, like The Autumn Defense, Purling Hiss, Wyatt Cenac, and more. Still trying to process it all, but there were definitely some incredible sets that I'll remember for a long, long time.

Checked out the live footage of the new songs on C.O.Sound & Pitchfork... Good Stuff. Wish they did this fest in their home state. Hope everyone had a blast out there.
