My view on da' Wu
During the end of the last century I had an epiphany one day while watching MTV when it was still worth watching and there were noe metrotrisexualethnicalyguidodes on it and it actually played video's. They announced the Rhyme and Reason Tour. It was in support of Rage Against The Machines "EVIL EMPIRE" album they were to co-headline with The Beastie Boys. It was doomed within a month of of when my tickets were due to be redeemed for what I thought was going to be a Coco of a good time. First Mike D broke his collerbone riding home from the recording studio after he fell off of his bike(sux). Then they were replaced with what I thought would be the pentultimate rap group ever The Wu-Tang Clan(saved!!). Well concert time rolls around and I show up to the show at the now defunct Starwood Amphitheatre in Nashville Tennesse( Tennessee always gets mad props from me on music have seen Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, 1993 Lollaplooza , and of course as of now Bonnaroo the past 6 now going into 7 years). So here I am back at Starwood where I saw Rage Against The machine kill the second YES THAT IS RIGHT I SAW THEM PLAY ON THE SECOND STAGE AND SO DID TOOL @ 1993 LOLLAPALOOZA @ THE SAME VENUE I SAW PRIMUS HEADLINE THAT NIGHT AND THE ORIGINAL ALICE IN CHAINSD OPEN UP FOR THEM. So I can tell you the bar was set high for that night. This really horrible opening band called Atari Teenage Riot opens up for the Wu. I spent most of that time getting really trashed but not so trashed I would forget indeed in one of my stranger moments at a show I arrived jacked out of skillet like I was Breaking Bad. Anyway the Wu shows up late now mind you I have since experienced Kanye late so I know what real late was @ this point in my life. First off the Ol Dirty Bastard hands down my favorite member of the group was a no show. he was held up and you can look this up for yourself @ this link crime.about.com/od/famousdiduno/ig/mugshots_rap_hip_rb/odb1.htm for quoteing the article •August 1998 - Orders to arrest ODB were issued after he failed to show up to court for the shoplifting incident in Virginia Beach. The shoplifting incident he failed to show up in court for was snatching a $50 pair of shoes. Fucking Wu-Tang at the height of its popularity everyone at college was rocking Wu-Wear and guess what the child support unit left Ol' Dirty with neery even $50 to buy shoes with. I was fumming the Wu showed up late they cut their songs down to nothing blending them into one medley where everyone in the Wu was being rapped over by a small child that to this day I still do not know the name of but me and my rolling partners that night hencforth referred to as "SHORTY WU". And the clan spent most of the time jumping up and down on a smashed up cop car they had drug up on stage( I do not know where that shit came from either). Needles to say I was not thrilled @ all. And at the end of the show after preaching on their first album about stealing all kinds of shit and a continuing message of that as well they urged the audience to got to the concession stands and the mall and buy "WU WEAR". But Rage Against The Machine managed to calm me afterwards by delivering yet another legendary performance. I did not buy the $40 Wu Wear Shirts instead I bought the more reasonably priced and much more clever Rage Against The machine Shirt @ $20. For years I handed down an evil scathing review of that concert on the Wu's behalf. But these days I have mellowed out a bunch on it especially now that I can compare it to Kanye as I am sure some of you reading this know all to well. I did felel robbed that night like when The Police did not play "EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE" @ Roo(that show really lacked energy and is in my list of bad reviews). No Ol' Dirty DAMMIT!!! Well now a days I look @ it in this light if you loked at the above link to Ol' Dirty's huge arrest record he was a controversial man. Lots of dark shit kinda like the infamous Robert Johnson. Experiencing his no show was the equivalent of catching Robert Johnson in a bar fight in some dark juke joint swinging a broken whiskey bottle on some guy who just caught him with his wife. I experienced the legend the man who was always getting arrested the same smart ass thumbing to the law that had him ride in a limo with Mariah Carey to pick up his foodstamps where the child support division had literally drove a multi-platimun artist into the poor house. If you get foodstamps you should NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO GO ON A DATE WITH MARIAH CAREY. And I am sure the Wu was probably at a loss for the possibly the umpteenth million time in their career of having a key member of the group not make it to the stage in time. So my verdict? I would definentally give them a chance to make it up for me and bring the pain even with somebody snatched at the last moment they still made it on stage late but in a reasonable amount of time and tried their hardest those partial songs I fell were done because they had to do something about Ol' Dirty not being there. The sell out accusation well? I am poor as shit and would sell out for some cash right now and believe me there are some aspects of poor that I will not cover here. I work my ass off and pay for Bonnaroo with hard work every year along with anything else I do. I have a very sick mother that I cannot leave to go back to finish college because well the money is just not there to care for her wich I manage to do to some degree and go back to finish school. If I was in those projects they describe? There is no telling who would die so I could make my way out. Guess I am lucky I grew up in rural bum fuck Kentucky and there was an abscence of crack dealers gangs etc. REST IN PEACE OL' DIRTY YOUR LEGEND LIVES ON THROUGH ME I TREAT YOUR GETTING ARRESTED LIKE SOMEONE WOULD HAVE AT A DOORS CONCERT WHEN JIM MORRISON WHIPPED IT OUT!!!!!! DAMN THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you made it out alive babyj. I wanted to hit this up but the venue seemed sketchy and couldn't round up a posse to go with. It would be awesome to get to make up the opportunity at Bonnaroo instead!!
