So we can all pretty much agree last year's lineup release was a disaster and was a poor attempt at building an already peaked amount of suspense.
However, last night I had a dream of a new awesome way to release the lineup...
Release the lineup band by band on radio Bonnaroo. After every announcement play a song by that band (because that's what most people did last year as they released each band). I usually spend the months following the lineup release listening to each band and I would be glued to Radio Bonnaroo the whole time if they did this.

This is pretty similar to the way it was released last year, just with music added. Last years would have worked better if there was a method to the release, such as saving all the big names for the end, and preventing the artists themselves, from simultaneously announcing.
I probably would rather them just release it all at once, preferably at midnight. I have a job, so I don't get much out of the gradual release.

I dispute your premise. I think that it created a more sustained discussion about the line up than the midnight release did. (I believe that the lineup thread exceeded 100 pages during the course of a few hours.) I think the disaster was the initial underwhelming response to the lineup. It was met with a great big shrug.
I've advocated releasing an artist (or a handful of artists) each day over a period of weeks. (My ideal is releasing an artist a day for four months but I understand that I'm in the minority there.)
I also think that they should do YouTube specials with maybe a bit of bio, maybe an interview and a live performance or two to accompany each days' announcements.
It sustains buzz and interest. Every day Bonnaroo.com or their YouTube channel would be a destination, stealing focus from Coachella, increasing (and focusing) chatter here, and nurturing the buzz that once lead to them selling out the festival on almost no marketing.

4 months?!?!? Is that supposed to be funny??? I think I'd kill myself and everyone around me if it took 4 months for the lineup to be released. I think the best way to do it is a midnight release all at once but if they were to release it artist by artist i wish they'd just give each artist a song or bio too.
LOL, not meant to be funny but, like I said, I understand that's not for everyone!
We're on here on a daily basis for months to discuss every little rumour, some of us year-round. Might as well have a new thing to talk about every day, the time to investigate every additon. Besides, some years anticipating lineup additions is better than the actual announced artists!
Last year's release was annoying, especially since I was at work for most of it. I had to get it off of the twitter page, and keep on refreshing it every (how many minutes again was it between bands?) risking getting in trouble with my phone. terrible. i gotta admit though, the suspense and anticipation levels were high all day, that part was kinda cool.
The only thing good with last year's release is it happened during a blizzard, my sister and I were working from home together in my dining room so we could participate together.

Otherwise it sucked.
I was home from work because of the east coast blizzard as well and loved spending my whole day getting one artist at a time. I enjoyed the way the lineup was released last year. I think I will be taking a day off of work this year if they intend to release it the same way

Last year was horrendous and there were so many different channels doing it (facebook, twitter, artists themselves, bonnaroo.com) it just did not work at all. Give me every single act playing your festival at one time at midnight on a certain night and do it a week before you tell the artists your going to

I kinda like the idea of so many artists per hour or day and leave the headliners for the very end. Radio Bonnaroo also sounds like a good way to go as well.

if they are going to release it one band at a time again, hopefully they learn from their mistakes. doing it random order was awful. they should go bottom to top this time. also there was a lot of confusion with outside "confirmations". i bet they don't do it the same way again though.
First off, I tried to log into my Myspace account the other day and virus protection came up and said an attack had just been stopped. So even though myspace is set up for music pretty well, I doubt will log on there again.
The waiting didn't get to me but, I have to admit the polka music every 6 minutes. WOW
