I looked and I couldn't find a thread dedicated to him, and I think it needs to happen. Santana is a legend who has been doing festivals in the US from the beginning, since he played at Woodstock. I'm sure a slot similar to Stevie Wonder's would be a show for the ages. Let's show Santana some love and try to get him to roo (with what little power we have as fans)
It doesn't matter what he has done in the last 12 years, Im sure it would put on an incredible show, but I have a feeling it would be a mid day what show, which would be cool.

I'd be cool with Santana, his catalog is big enough to where the set would be pretty good. I'd be willing to bet very few would complain with his show. Plenty of older artists still make new music that no one cares to hear, therefore they don't play most of the new songs live. Not positive what Santana's recent setlists look like, but I'd be willing to bet most of the songs are from another era.

Here is a setlist from the end of October. Also he is playing "The Joint" at Hard Rock Cafe tonight a 4000 seat venue I doubt he would be headlining.
I mean, if it's his early material from the first few albums (the great fusion stuff), then I'm game. I just worry about the mass amount of ephemera he's put out over the last few decades.
Funny - this thought ran through my mind the other night when I was driving and has my ipod on shuffle - Santana came on and the thought was "wow - it would be cool to see Santana at Bonnaroo - that's a legend I could cross off my list"
I saw him about 15 years ago when I was in high school. Good show. Robert Cray opened up for him. I'd see him again, but it would definitely be a late afternoon slot. The Fogerty/ZBB would be good placement.

Supernatural is his most recent album that I'm familiar with, and I could handle a few songs off of it, but I'm sure that his shows focus mainly on older stuff. Even if some of his shows don't (which it seems most do), Bonnaroo is different from most shows. I'm sure he'd play his older stuff.

The show at the Hard Rock is part of a 24 show residency. Playing a stint in Vegas doesn't mean his draw has slid at all. Headline quality acts have performed stints in Vegas in recent years. His tour last summer featured mostly amphitheaters and some arenas across the country and some dates in Canada. I think he would have to be top 6 in lineup, and possibly a headliner.

I saw Santana this year at Deer Creek and it was a great show but it was nowhere close to being sold out...the pavilion was completely empty for the most part and the lawn was really sparse to. I was surprised...but he would definitely be a great afternoon set cuz he still brings it.

I could definitely see him being rather high on the lineup, 4-8 or so, but having a time that offers a lot of other options, like What Stage pre-headliner on Fri or Sat
I saw him at an all-day music festival in the late 70s before most of you were born, and it was an incredible show. Wow, to hear "Europa" on the farm.......

I would have loved to have been there! Hopefully Bonnaroo can be a similar experience (if he comes).
My buddy (juryfury, if he ever gets on the board again) was talkin' ta me about this when we went ta Raleigh fer New Years weekend. Like I told him, I just can't really see it. Maybe in a John Fogerty or Jeff Beck spot, but I think he'd havta have some decent guests ta do some of the tunes he's done since Supernatural. I'd love if he played mostly his older stuff and would still love ta see him live, but I just don't see it.

I think Santana would be a great show for Bonnaroo to book, but lets not forget the Rolling Stones have said that 2011 and 2012 will be their last tour ever... Santana I could see playing for a couple more years then the Stones. So this year Bonnaroo Headliner, The Rolling Stones
I saw him in junior high with my dad and not knowing much of his material, or having the appreciation for music I do now, his guitar skills were enough to really impress me. I felt like he could do pretty much whatever he wanted with a guitar in his hands. I'd probably pass on his set at Roo (which I agree would very likely be afternoon what ala B.B. King) but I would be very happy for anyone who got to see his set. I do have to mention that when I saw him he went on a rant that would put Wayne Coyne to shame. Seriously, he was rambling for like 10 minutes about spiritual beliefs while they played a video of doves flying around behind him. It was a bit awkward to say the least.
I've seen Santana four times in about 15 years. He is always good. His shows have a pretty good mix of old, new, and unexpected. He does seem to build his setlists for the crowd he is playing. I think he would be a What preheadliner.

I like the jab at Wayne Coyne. I love the flips more than almost any other band, especially live, but he can get out of control to a point. I remember the 07 roo show...he didn't cater to his audience much in terms of their mindset.
As an after-thought, Santana in a SuperJam is something I really can't stop thinking about.
Santana would be nice. Put him on the Which on Sunday, give him a few hours. He goes through a few classics, a few newer songs, some covers, maybe a guest or two, it would be fun.
