The Civil Wars were here in Orlando last week and I had the chance to meet them at an in-store performance/signing. Asked John Paul if there was ant trust to the rumor that they would be at Roo and he said yes.

I sent a Twitter message to Joy saying - "Congrats! Does a baby mean no Bonnaroo?" She replied directly - "Will be at Bonnaroo and looking forward to it!"
I just got lost in The Civil Wars YouTube videos for the past 3 hours... needless to say, they jumped a few big spots in my Bonnaroo spreadsheet and earned a "Must See" tag!
Anyway.. here they are covering "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. Wow.
We saw them last year at Newport Folk fest with about 100 other people. The chemistry and harmonies is amazing and unique. Pics on the NFF thread. They did their own music and some really fun covers. Def. worth seeing if you can. It's probably great for us that the rumored affairs are all denied. The obvious chemistry ignites the music IMO.
Oh no. "We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret. However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013.”
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Pretty bummed to hear about their touring hiatus too. I've read tons and tons of people who took it as them breaking up, but I surely don't. I think they're onto something too good to just give up on it. I'm sure we'll see them back in time, probably just after Joy and her new family settles in more.

I'm really hoping maybe they just become a studio band for the next 2-3 years while Joy enjoys being mom then comes back full force. John Paul could either tour solo or, more interestingly, could put together a series of one-off shows with several female singers joining him to take on Joy's vocals for 1-2 songs apiece. Would make the shows seem really special and avoid the "replacement band" rumors bringing a girl on full time would.
Well. I'm glad I got to see them at Roo for possibly the last time. During their show there, she said a few years earlier she came to Bonnaroo as a fan and stayed in her car and didn't take a shower or anything. That was cool.
To me, "internal discord and irreconcilable differences" doesn't sound much like "wants to spend more time with her baby," unless by "baby" she means her husband.
I've seen them live a couple of times and really enjoyed them. I had the good fortune of bumping into them as they were loading their van outside a hotel once. I did note that it was just the two of them staying together, and they seemed...friendly together.
Huh - I missed this thread before - I would think irreconcilable differences of ambition means one of them wanted to get that second album done and start touring again to keep their momentum going and the other one wanted to take a breath spend time with family and work more slowly on the second album.
They definitely did some studio recording between Bonnaroo and ACL - so maybe they just needed a break from each other. But those are definitely the weirdest breakup phrases I've heard from a band.
