8 sets, this is going to be a blast!! I wonder how big this will end up being, honestly it is getting my spidey sense tingling as the place to be this summer. 200 dollars is the ticket price I am hearing get thrown around.
I'm hoping tickets can hold out till I get my tax return or financial aid. If so count me in (and strumtheguitar ... when I tell him he just has to!).
i may be wrong in this but from that article, aquarium, it seems it's just saying that nothing is confirmed yet. the fact that Watkins Glen President confirms they are looking into booking a concert plus the surging phish rumors still keeps me very positive.
if this goes down i really hope i can swing this during my AT hike.

ANNOUNCING "SUPER BALL IX" AT WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL Thursday, March 31st, 2011 - Posted by PHISH Sensational. Mind-blowing. Fantabulous.
These are all words with the same amount of letters as SUPER BALL IX.
It's Phish's biggest. Ball. Ever. So big we can't. Contain it. In one sentence. Super Ball IX, Phish's ninth festival, will take place July 1-3 at Watkins Glen International. Located amidst the rolling hills of central New York's Finger Lakes region, the site offers an abundance of campsites and is just a short drive from numerous Northeastern cities. Super Ball IX will mark Phish's first-ever festival performance over July 4 weekend, and the first major music festival held at Watkins Glen since 1973's legendary Summer Jam. It is also Phish's first-ever performance at a facility with "Watkins" in its name.
Tickets for Super Ball IX go on sale this Monday, April 4th, at Noon ET at superballIX.portals.musictoday.com. Onsite camping is included in the price of admission. Like previous Phish festivals, the event will include numerous activities, attractions and art installations in addition to a series of performances by the band. Camping and travel packages will. Be. Available. (Sorry, hard habit to break.)
Super Ball IX continues a tradition that began with The Clifford Ball in August of 1996. Rolling Stone observed, "It was definitely groundbreaking...there was a real story; that in an age of corporate sponsorship, this completely home-grown thing happened that was different from any other concert."
Anyone purchasing Super Ball IX tickets will receive a free MP3 download of each set the band plays during the weekend from livephish.com, where they'll be available shortly after Phish finishes lip-syncing steps off stage.
SuperBallIX.com and Phish.com will be your main source for all things Ball. We've posted the first wave of information about the festival and will continue to update with Travel info, FAQs, Guidelines, Event Info, the hottest celebrity news, and much much more, so keep checking back.

I will be content with my Festival 8 memories and pass on this one. I've already committed to Hangout, Floyd Fest, and Florence and the Machine that weekend in Atlanta. I'm at least seeing them 3 times in June.
Would be tempted with some good additions but not 4th of July regardless. If they are having a tribute to the first one Levon Helm doesn't live that far away.
^^^ Wow, I'm surprised that it would be a two-day show with just them but if anybody can pull off two days of jamming it would be Phish. They must have some good "activities, attractions and art installations" to keep everybody occupied and happy during breaks.

It's a 3 day festival and Phish usually is the only band that plays at their festivals. Usually a ton of sets. Activities during the day.

I traveled from Georgia to Indio for 8, but I don't think I'll be doing this one. At least I have Phish shows lined up for the summer. It will have to do. I've already blown too much dough on the Hangout Festival.

I really want to see Phish again this summer so I'm definitely going to try and make it to this. It's not too far away from me so I could probably swing it cost wise. CleanVibes is going to be at the event for anyone interested in volunteering. If I'm able to go it will be through volunteering/working with CleanVibes

Alright, so can someone help me make a decision..? I live in CT and haven't been to the Gathering of the Vibes yet, so I figured I would just go to that this year.. it's a 40min drive from where I live.. But I think this Phish fest would be a lot better. I could only afford one or the other, so what do you think? Note: I've never seen Phish or Furthur.. kind of makes it even harder to decide.

I'd say go to the Phish festival. I've had a good time at Vibes, but three days of Phish sounds like pure awesomeness to me.

been to Vibes, seen Phish, seen Furthur... I would definitely recommend the Phish fest. It's gonna be EPIC. Furthur is playing fantastic right now, but Phish has been on fire (light years ahead of where they were when they played roo, seriously). I like the Vibes line-up this year, as well as the location, but for me this is really a no-brainer.
Check out Phish's manchester show (10/26/10) or the new year's eve or new year's day shows for a taste of how they're playing these days.
