I just recently had the idea of taking walkie talkies to the farm. I honestly have no idea why I haven't thought of it before. Last year everyone's phone battery ran down by the end of the weekend and we had a really hard time communicating if we split up. Has anyone tried this? I'd imagine that at a huge event the size of 'roo there would be a lot of traffic over the airwaves.

Yeah, we took them our first year and it was almost impossible to use, especially with folks purposely interfering. Though, I haven't seen too many walkies the past couple of years, so maybe it would be easier now. Walkies were more popular when there was still a problem getting service/overloaded cell towers on the farm.
I used to use walkie talkies all of the time. But there were always other people on the same channel you were using and sometimes they would screw with your conversation. I know this because we used to do this. It made for some really fun times.
I would think it wouldn't be so bad now because most people use phones.
We used them last year and didn't have a problem with others on the channels. Although we could never hear anyone trying to talk to us unless we kept it in our hand the entire time. I saw someone somewhere talking about walkies that had texting on them. I'd like to try those so you wouldn't actually miss someone trying to get ahold of you.

My brother and I brought them one year and it didn't work. There's WAY too much noise. We could never hear when the other was calling even when pressing the buzzer button.
I get that texting is easier than walkie talkies/calling, but did anyone else still have bad service? I had major lag issues even with texting. Made it hard to find friends when I'd get texts an hour or more later. I wish I could suggest texting with everyone else's confidence. I have Verizon too, so don't know if they're bad there or maybe it was my specific phone *shrug*
This past year was the first year I've ever had trouble gettin' in contact with people inside Centeroo. Lots of lag time sendin' and receivin' texts, missed and dropped phone calls. I've had Verizon all four years that I've been there. Dunno what the problem was last summer.
