Here's the big name artists playing at Lolla via Rolling Stone
The Lollapalooza festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary this summer with a three-day event at Chicago's Grant Park on August 5-7th with headliners Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse and My Morning Jacket. The bill will also include artists such as Cee Lo Green, deadmau5, A Perfect Circle, the Cars, Ween, Bright Eyes, Lykke Li, Cold War Kids, Big Audio Dynamite, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and Nas, Best Coast, Smith Westerns and Explosions in the Sky.
In addition to the main stage events, Lollapalooza 2011 will feature the debut of a 15,000-capacity dance tent that will host performances by Girl Talk, Kid Cudi, Pretty Lights and Skrillex. Festival founder Perry Farrell will also play on that stage as part of a PerryEtty Vs. Chris Cox set.

Why Super Mash Bros if you have Girl Talk? Not that I'm in love with Girl Talk, but why get two similar artists when when is much more talented than the other.
Maybe there will be a perfect storm where there's like 10 acts on one day I really want to see. I'd get a 1 day pass. Undercard's got some solid stuff, but of the top 15 there's 2, maybe 3 bands I'd actually pay to see if they toured close to me.
It's catching a lot of shit, but I'd say this lineup really gives Bonnaroo a run for its money this year. It's at least a lot better than last year's Lolla lineup. If I was able to go I would, but I'm not. Bonnaroo will be enough for me.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

This lineup is SO for me... Any lineup that includes both APC and Deftones has me sold.
Then Atmosphere...Crystal Castes... The Kills.. Sleigh Bells.. Cage the Elephant.. DFA 1979...Muse.. Although it's an inferior festival overall this lineup feels tailored to my personal music tastes. REalllllly wish I could go. Maybe I can find some way to make it happen..

I wouldn't say this is a *bad* lineup, it's just not good enough to get me drop $215 + travel expenses, especially since most of these bands are playing elsewhere this summer. I'll be making the trip to Chicago for Pitchfork, but the tickets were half the cost and the lineup has a bunch of names I probably won't be able to see anywhere else this year.
Speaking of Pitchfork, I figured DFA1979 would end up playing there this year, but I guess Lolla snagged them instead. I wonder if they just offered more money.
This is just kind of a meh lineup for me. Lots of stuff I'd like to see and lots of stuff I don't care about. It's certainly not enough to get me to travel to Chicago this year, but if there was camping and I did not have to pay for hotels on top of the ticket it would be much more tempting.

Been thinking about it all morning and I'm seriously considering selling my bonnaroo ticket to go. This lineup was made for me. And if Maynard comes onstage with deftones to sing passenger and I'm not there I will die a little inside
Eminem clearly made a deal with the devil, who is currently serving as his agent. I can't explain how else he's famous AND headlining both Bonnaroo and Lolla the same year.
Last year I felt like Lolla had better headliners. I don't think so this year at all, even as weak as the top Roo headliners are.

I just realized how much of a rip off Lolla is. Ok so take out the debate of which line up is better because that all depends on the person so the point, I feel is moot.
I always had a friend to stay with for free when I went to Lolla so that wasn't much of an issue. If you have to buy a hotel room then yes, it becomes very expensive. Lolla has a few advantages. If you have a place to stay you get to shower and use a clean toilet without VIP tickets. You're in beautiful downtown Chicago which has millions of things to do when you aren't listening to a band.
They space out their schedule better so that you actually get to see most of the bands you went for. This is the one area where Roo rips people off in a way. Roo puts out a great lineup that gets people to buy tickets. But then (surprise!) you won't see half the bands you bought tickets for because they'll be playing against the other bands you were also dying to see. Lolla does a much better job of creating a schedule that doesn't leave you angry and disappointed.

I can explain it: he's a great MC who has garnered enough critical and commercial success over the last 15 years to the point where he's both one of the best selling artists of his generation and also still respected by his peers and those within his given genre of music.
And those things could also be said about Celine Dion. But, I expect something more in a Roo headliner than disposable commercial pop.
Yeah, I'm from Chicago, I know. But it's not full of free bands playing till dawn, Wili.
Sure, not the same as Roo late nights, but there is something pretty cool and unique about going to a small club around midnight after a full day of music to catch a late night show. Last year I was able to stop back at my place after Lolla shut down, regroup and have a drink, then go see The Black Keys at the Metro. Two years ago Soundtribe played at the House of Blues and they didn't come on til after midnight.
For me, not sure I'd travel from far away for this lineup. Since it's in only 20 minutes from my place, I'll be there all weekend as usual and will probably be spending a good amount of time at Perry's tent.

I've thought of that- plus all the extra expenses...
Lolla has so much of the bands I had on my bonnaroo wishlist that didn't make it onto the lineup. While a bunch of them (Deftones, Sleigh Bells, Crystal Castles, Glitch mob) are favorites I have seen and will see again, there are others who never come down to FL, and this may be my only chance to see. Like the Kills and DFA 1979. Plus APC is one of my all time favorites. Never had the oppurtunity to see them and I may never, depending on if they make another album and tour again. And, like I mentioned.. Passenger is my all time favorite song and if maynard and chino are at the same fest... this is a moment I've been dreaming of. And on top of all that they snagged some of the groups I was most looking forward to see at bonanroo (Atmosphere, MMJ, Ratatat, Pretty lights, Sleigh bells) And others I were excited to see at bonnaroo (Primus, Matt & Kim) are touring in FL. So I'm not making too huge of a sacrifice. And lolla's electro lineup blows roo out of the water.. even beat ultra imo
Don't get me wrong, logistically bonnaroo is the superior festival. But this lineup was made for me
I like that lineup a lot. It has a lot of stuff I liked about Coachella's lineup, plus some cool bands to replace those they don't share. I'm a sucker for Coldplay too.
