I am seriously thinking about trying to go this year. Cubs are at home that weekend, so it would be a good time to make a run to Chicago. Has anyone been before or looking to go this year? Any advise or info would be welcomed. - Thanks
I went a few years back when Rage and Radiohead played. I decided to go cheap and stayed at this hostel like place not far from the park. Really wish I hadn't. That place looked like a crack house, the doors to your room didn't lock, community bathroom on each floor with only one toilet and one shower (for the whole floor!), it was just a nightmare.. So my advice if you go is to not do it cheap.

Thanks, I already have a room reserved that can be canceled, If I do not like the lineup. Did you do any of the after party shows? I am curious if the tickets are hard to get and are they far away from Grant Park. Thanks again.

I went a few years ago, and did go to a couple of after shows. I went to a show at the House of Blues, and then tried to get in to Sonic Youth at some hole in the wall place. The after shows are all over town. But they are all pretty accessible, either by the subway, or at worst a pretty quick taxi ride away. At the House of Blues I was in line to buy tickets and someone walked up to me and my friend and gave us tickets for free. Since the Sonic Youth show was at such a small place it sold out too quick, and tickets were pretty much impossible to get. The ticket situation really just depends on the band, and even more so, the venue. But you always have several good choices to choose from. To me that was one of the most fun parts.
About the aftershows: Most are just like regular shows as far as buying tickets. They usually go on sale in late June. They are a little more expensive than a regular show. I paid 45 for The National last year. Depending on the show they usually sell out immediately. I would warn you about being tired and pacing yourself but you're probably a Bonnaroo vet.
Rumors for the lineup are Muse and Kanye West very likely. MMJ also seems to be likely. It should be a quality lineup as always.

I've been and am thinking of going again this year. They don't let you bring outside food and drink, that's a bummer, but you get to do the festival and city thing at once, that's nice. I bought my after show tickets in advance. As previously said, between the train and cabs, no worries on transportation. Hell, we had time after Lolla and before shows to go shower and change if we wanted (a shower! what?!). Also, I stayed in a hostel with no problems! I'd stay there again.

I'm not crazy about Foo Fighters but I think Lolla would be the best possible place to see them (it's a more high energy crowd than roo). I've always kinda wanted to see Eminem, but would never go to his own show, so I'll definitely be making my 4th trip to Grant Park. I believe Muse would be a better show than last time I saw them (way beyond the sound tent) and am pumped for the rest of the lineup.

Well, April 26th is the lineup announcement date. Stealing this from the Lolla boards, but here are the "Semi-Confirmed/Expected acts":
Semi-Confirmed/Expected Acts
Semi-Confirmed
!!! 30 Seconds To Mars Arctic Monkeys Anberlin Best Coast Cage the Elephant Civil Twilight Crash Kings Crystal Castles Cults Electric Touch Eminem Fences Fitz and the Tantrums Foo Fighters G. Suspicious Scheduling A Perfect Circle The Decemberists Eels Glitch Mob Okkervil River Phantogram Primus Sleigh Bells
Can't say there's anything yet that I'd be overly excited for. Always wanted to see Okkervil River, if they play hopefully they do an aftershow too.
Sure did. I had a hard time getting in line because everyone and their mother was one the website. Good thing a buddy had a bit more luck and I got my $185 tickets becasue I missed out on the 6 tickets they had for $60. Tickets are still on sale but are at reg price of $215. See you guys there.
I just realized how much of a rip off Lolla is. Ok so take out the debate of which line up is better because that all depends on the person so the point, I feel is moot.
Ok Lolla is three days long with no camping, and for purposes of my point lets error on the low end of ticket prices and say you paid 185 for early bird. That comes out to about $60 a day.
Roo is four days long, with camping included and even if you got teir four tickets you still only paid about 285. Which comes out to about $70 a day. Now where I am from I know you will pay at least $30 a day in camping fees. Now I have never been to Roo but from what I read they have so much more going on through out the day that you are getting your moneys worth for as well.
This is taking into account paying the low price for Lolla and the High price for Roo. To me I feel like I just got ripped off by the Lolla folks(puts head down in shame)

Been to Lollapalooza since 06. It gets worse every year, yet I still go because I have an amazing time. They do let you bring in water bottles, but no food. If you get three day passes you can come and go as you please, so you can go somewhere else to eat. However, the food at Lolla is pretty reasonably priced.
My biggest gripe with Lolla is that two years ago they ran out of bottled water on Sunday. My stomach is weaker than a 2 year old so I typically get sick from "public" water. Lolla was selling water bottle brand A, and the volunteers were drinking water brand B. They had a giant pallet of water B behind the tent, and I asked if I could buy one of those. They told me no. It was just kind of like WTF.

I actually think Lolla's gotten better over the past couple years. Perry's is much improved as it's set back and not off the main walkway anymore, the food has gotten better, and now that they've shut down Columbus Dr., it's so much easier to walk from one end to the other. And the port-o-potties on Columbus were never crowded at all.
As for the water situation, they have stations that provide free filtered water so I'm not sure why you didn't just have them fill up your water bottle.
I did my first Lolla last year and it was so-so. Don't think I'll be back there for a while. Don't really dig the layout at all. A lot of walking with not much to do in between. Bonnaroo seems much easier to catch what you want and easier to get around.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I did Lolla the first couple of years in Chicago. It's not as enjoyable for me as Roo. Grant Park seems to be placed under a magnifying glass that makes any sunlight three times as hot. There is very little relief in the way of shelter. That's my biggest takeaway.
There is a big walk between the two farthest stages and I experienced some pretty significant sound bleeds.
It's not a bad festival by any means but it just became too much to do Bonnaroo and Lolla in the course of two months. I still prefer the old touring model, I guess.
