Get one of those leather wineskins and fill it halfway to 3/4 full of water. Place it in your freezer. Let it get good and solid. When it is time to pack up for Bonnaroo put the wineskin in cooler last. I typically save this nice little treat for Friday morning. This is the trial and error part of it but these measurments work for me. Take a funnel and dump a cup of sugar in the wineskin. Then pour in 16 oz. Of Kubler Absinthe from Switzerland. Finish filling the winesskin with water. Let it set out for a bit while you are getting dressed changeing clothes etc. By now the chunk of ice should be busting up in the bag. Give it a coupl of good shakes it is leather but remmber the liner is made out of the stuff milk jugs are unless you got a real bota bag in wich case they are sealed with pitch and I have never seen a real one. Once the big block of ice breaks up it will kind of turn into an alcoholic slush. Just walk around practice flipping the bag upside down and squirt the Absinthe directly into your mouth me and my buddies got quite good walked all over shakedown + beyond doing it.

I get it up here in bum fuck small Kentucky town $50 a liter but if you mix it just right it makes 5 litres at 4 to 1 water to absinthe ratio. kebler is clear Absinthe they do not macerate it with herbs etc after distilling that adds the "framiliar green" of the fairy. But when you add water it does the most beautiful louching ever. I have had it straight off a plane from Europe and it is good.

I dont know the american laws, but REAL European absinth is illegal here in Canada (the stuff with lage amounts of wormwood) so swiss stuff is probably better than north american. We sell "absinth" here but it does not compare to the euro stuff (which I have had the pleasure of trying)

no haggis in it....its their version of moonshine. Its pretty potent stuff....took my breath away but literally had me turning cartwheels (not very good ones at that).
not sure what it is distilled from...potatoes? but then it would be vodka? need to research that one. anyway the stuff I had was at someone's house in County Tipperarry and came in a mason-type jar.

They use just as much wormwood as they use in Europe. Also the whole idea that it is an extra hallucinogen is pretty bogus imo. More than one source has debunked it. I have had stuff from Prague, and it is not any more potent than anything else.

I am absolutely loving this idea, but since I've never tried absinthe I think I better give it a trial run before staggering around the farm chasing fairies.
I have had US-available absinthe and I haven't seen the green fairy, though it gives a different effect from most spirits. However it causes the same gag reflex in me that I get from Sambuka and Jagermeister.

Say it isn't so! The gag reflex? I have wanted to try absinthe for a while - looking for the perfect occasion, and Bonnaroo seems like it would have been it. But is it thick and ookey like Jaeger, really?
Well, I'm still going to try it. We'll see if Georgia has any that beats the KY/TN variety.

You can order myriad varieties of Absinthe from a Spanish distributor, ABC de Vinos y Licores. The Fine Spirits Corner. They are top notch. The only problem for Americans is the crap value of the U.S. Dollar when compared to euros. As for the taste, I've found a lot of varieties taste faintly or strongly of licorice, depending on the recipe. There are a few, Mata Hari being one, that do not contain anise, and therefore do not have that taste. Mata Hari is available in the U.S., by the way. I saw a bottle in a Chicago liquor store a few months ago. The thing people don't tend to think about with absinthe is the potency. It's almost always 100-plus proof, so if you drink a bunch of it you could be feeling like "death in the afternoon." I plan on trying the Corsair Red. Thanks for the heads up, Jess.

ditto! and i had more of it than prague than i could ever hope to have in a lifetime. it even replaced water when smoking shisha... i want to gag just thinking about it now...
regardless, i am jealous of those who have experienced the true, green-fairy yielding stuff.
last year my green fairy had strobe lights and a hule hoop attached we met under the fountain fell in love on the ferris wheel and she broke my heart under the arch when she left to go back to her palace in the rv area and i returned to the slums of my hood in tent city

If you don't there will be innumerable broken hearted groupies wandering aimlessly through Centeroo drinking, cursing and muttering about Sally Struthers and deprivation tanks. And puppies.
