Wow. I didn't think this year's lineup was anything special. It's solid, mind you, but they've had better. I guess the Big Audio Dynamite reunion was just too much for people to pass up. - Come on dim the lights It's party time Switch on the strobe
They ONLY sell 3 day passes for Coachella. All festival passes, VIP passes, and camping are sold out. They have an EXTREMELY strong electronic lineup and like it or not Kanye West is a HUGE get. He had the concensus critic number one album of 2010 and is dropping a new solo album this summer and an album with Jay Z in a couple months.

"You don't throw sh*t at people performing on stage. I don't give a f*ck if you don't like them" -Lewis Black at Bonnaroo (after being hit by a water bottle)
Here is what I dont understand, the didnt sell out in 2008, with Prince and Roger Waters, but they sell out with the Queens of Leon, and Kanye West?

I gotta agree. Its strange they sold out quick. I gotta believe they must have limited their released tickets in the initial week because the number is 51,000 sold. Which is nowhere near what it can fill let alone Bonnaroo, who sells like 70-80,000. I think this is Coachella's way to get a publicity war started because they can get the sold out buzz. They realize they have tough competition over Bonnaroo's 10th Anniversay Show, (1st tier tix sold in hours!!) No doubt about it, these are longtime rivals trying to outdo each other. Bonnaroo won Best Festival of the Decade by Rolling Stone. Along with praises from New York Times and USA Today. The news has actually made me more excited because I wanna see what Bonnaroo's counter is going to be in this new decade.
Coachella and Bonnaroo. Its the SUPER BOWL! We get to reap the rewards
The Coachella 2008 thing: Remember, this was the old system. They still sold single day passes and did not require everyone to buy the 3-day pass to see who they wanted to see. Prince was also announced a mere 2.5 weeks before the event.
Now, Coachella is a 3-day event that has gained popularity since 2008. They are appealing to a younger crowd these last two years, and it seems to be paying off for the organizers (personally, I loved the whole "integrating a classic-type headliner with new artist" formula they adopted in 2008 and 2009). It is hard to compare 2008 and 2011.
And I think people are misinterpreting that 51,000 number. The article that number was announced in only indicated that 51,000 tickets were sold by Monday. The remaining allotment (which should probably be in the 70-75,000 range) were snatched up by Wednesday.
I don't think the organizers are holding back tickets. That would create a shit ton of bad blood over the high scalper prices that are being seen right now.
