how much do you spend on gas? we're thinking about making the same trip.
So at 8 MPG you use 12.5 gallons, $3.00 per gallon, $37.50 per 100 miles + gas for the generator. They use around .5 gal to .75 gallons a hour.
so if the rental site says it's $3 per hr. for the generator that is including the gas for it or not? trying to figure out how much this would cost us.

I'm assuming you're renting through Cruise America? I did that last year and while its on the pricy side its not awful if you have enough people. We got the largest they offer and just put 6 people in it. We drove from CT to Atlanta and picked it up in ATL and went to Bonnaroo from there. Roundtrip for gas and generator was approx 200-250 ( i dont remember offhand). A tip to cut down on generator use- go to sleep w/ all the windows open and even the door- you can lock the screen, first person who woke up in the morning due to heat (around 7) just shut the windows and turned on the A/C and we were able to sleep for another 4 hours comfortably
That is what we do with our motorhome. We make it comfortable before going to bed then turn everything off for the night, then in the morning we turn it back on.
I just purchased a a device that turns on my generator when the thermostat calls for air conditioning. I hope to put it to good use when June comes around.

yea cruise america is the one i looked at. do you know of any that are cheaper? we're looking to do about the exact thing you did. how comfortable was it with 6 people?
It wasn't that bad for 6 people- I suppose you could fit one other person in there but i wouldn't recommend it. Theres a bed in the back which fits 2 comfortably- the Cab over bed fit 2 comfortably, and then i'd say only 1 should sleep on the 'kitchen table' and the couch. Storage wasn't an issue for the most part (lots underneath) and we brought a lot of stuff with us as well. I don't know if there's anything cheaper but i'm sure its possible. I didnt run into any mileage issues due to where i picked up the RV either.
Additional expenses to expect though- you need to fill up the water to use shower/toilet before you get to Roo and clear out the waste before you return it. We didn't plan that well and had our tank filled by Bonnaroo at $50. I'd recommend a sunshower though- that seemed to work best for us. We'd trek down to the fountains in the morning- hang the sun shower on the side of the RV and it was warm within an hour- otherwise you'll run out of water on the RV quick.
All that said- well worth it in my opinion. The RV section gives you plenty of room to set up tarps/tents in the area, it was never really 'too loud'. It was my first roo (5 first timers and one who was on their second trip) and we're going again this year and planning on renting an RV again

Beside Cruse America you might want to check dealerships that sell RV's most also rent. They might be a little cheeper due to that they do not advertise like the larger national chains.
Remember to check RV dealer "along the way" this also might save you some money on gas and milage.
it might have been cruise america or another one but they can deliver the rv into bonnaroo and set it up for you. the cheapest quote i got for that was like $2100.. and you also have to buy a ticket for the guy driving it to get in. or they can meet you in manchester and hand it over.
gas will be around $5 a gallon so will it really be worth it to drive a few hundred miles!?
Yea Katbur we are coming all the way from Fort Myers FL and we decided to drive halfway and pick up the RV in Savannah Georgia so we don't go over on mileage.
