Hello everyone! This roo will be my first and I was wondering from people who have brought nice cameras to roo, is it worth it to carry around the camera with you all day/what precautions should I take if I decide to bring my nice camera with me? Not trying to get it ripped off or ruined by water/alcohol

i dont really consider my camera something i cant live without so its been dropped, wet, muddy and all of the above... it just goes everywhere with me, so i cant say my system would work for all. ive had it for at least 5 years though and id say its been to bonnaroo a handful of times, rothbury, hiking the appalchain trail, the beach and countless other trips and its not broken yet

I have a nicer camera with changeable lenses and stuff, but I usually leave that in my truck when I go into Centeroo. I could carry it with me, but it's a bit of a hassle, and I'd hate to mess it up with the dust (on dry years) or water (on wet years). So, I usually just bring a smaller point-and-shoot with me.
If you're really into taking pictures and want good ones at Bonnaroo and don't mine carrying it around with you all day, it's worth it. If you're more like me and would rather just walk around unencumbered, bring a point-and-shoot or your cell phone if it has a nice camera. Personally, I'd rather just enjoy the moment and have the memories than be worried about getting the perfect shot while am at the Roo, but to each his own.

My lady has brought her nice Nikon SLR to Bonnaroo a few times. Sure she takes some good pictures with it, however last year we did determine that is was just a hassle to carry around. This year we'll just be bringing a Point and shoot that fits in our pocket.

I'm a professional photographer, and I've brought a Nikon SLR to Bonnaroo five straight years and had no issues with people spilling anything on it or any other piece of my equipment. Just bring a nice, comfortable bag, and some kind of rain gear, even if it's just a plastic bag. I got stuck in a downpour in 06 during Phil and Friends without rain gear and had to make a mad dash from the field to the safety of a vendor's tent. A bag is key, not just for comfort, but for keeping your equipment dust free, save for when your shooting. It's REALLY dusty at Bonnaroo, and it can infiltrate your camera and lenses.
they make a lot of really rugged point and shoots. i was thinking of picking up a waterproof/dustproof/everything proof one so i don't even have to worry about it.
I brought my DSLR to roo the last two years. A small bag/ good strap is helpful but the only real precaution I take is keeping ziplocks big enough to fit the camera and lenses in my pocket/bag in case of rain, fountain, or GWAR blood.

i take my small digital canon into centeroo all the time and just make sure to have an extra battery or a plastic bag to protect it in case of rain. a friend of mine took his big film camera and all his lenses into centeroo a few times and was able to keep it safe, he just had to carry a bulky backpack to stash it when not in use. He got some amazing pictures so it was def worth it.
I find I enjoy myself more without a camera. I think you will find a snap-n-shoot will be fine and you needn't bring a bigger setup unless you're a real photo junkie.
Not necessary. Cameras are allowed unless they have a detachable lens. I think the only exception was either Tool or Metallica? That was a huge clusterquack.
I've seen Metallica 5 times including Bonnaroo, and been front row once. They couldn't give a rat's @$$ about that stuff. Tool however... Apparently the Manard dude has a light sensitivity. So that is why he claims there can be no photos or video camera's. I personally think thats a load of bull hockey but whatever. I also thought it was complete crap that they were playing to 80,000+ people and refused to let the Bonnaroo video people put them on the big screen...
