What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
This is just down the road from me. I'll be there for sure. Can't wait for the rest of the acts, but I was sold with the FLips announcment. Will be interesting to see how tiny Nelsonville reacts to Wayne and Co's full-sensory show.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

I've been to The Ledges easily 15-20 times in the last eight years, and it has changed a bit. It's still a beautiful place - you can't beat swimming in a crystal clear stone quarry in the summer and camping beneath a canopy of trees - but it's nowhere near the free-for-all it used to be. I think they've insulated themselves from a repeat of the Camp Zoe fiasco. Security has turned people over to the local Sheriff - I've read the arrest reports in the local paper, using Google News - and the task force has been in there too, on occasion. They really came under fire when some kid OD'd a few years ago and his friends said he'd bought the stuff by reaching through a fence. I personally think they used the quarry as a scapegoat to avoid trouble. There's no way that happened, but nonetheless it prompted an outcry from residents, etc. I still plan on going to at least one show there this summer. For comparison purposes, I'd still say the Ledges is nowhere near Spirit of Suwanee in Florida in terms of heavy-handedness.

As for this fest, I've heard its a good time. It's right on the campus of Hocking College in Nelsonville, so it's surrounded by rolling hills, and the Hocking River runs nearby. They permit camping, but I'm pretty sure it's not an old-school All Good-type environ. I'll be there this year with a group of friends. Can't wait to see the FLips again. (This will be like my 10th time seeing Wayne and Co.)

I'll be at the Nelsonville fest!! As far as the Nelson Ledges business, I've been there several times and I will continue to go... well, maybe. Like Klim said, it's an amazing venue for a festival, really beautiful, plenty of shade, it's wonderful! But there definitely has been a stronger police presence in the last few years. As long as you're not doing anything you shouldn't be doing blatantly out in the open, or talking to strangers about those things (and definitely be weary of strangers asking you about anything suspicious), I don't think you would have anything to worry about. I don't have a problem with that, but what might keep me from coming back is that the NLQP staff has also been cracking down, but on a sort of ridiculous level. Last year, we were camped back in the "war zone", no where near family camping, and the staff came through our campsite and took our drums, and told us no music after 3am! They didn't tell us we had to go to bed, but what the hell else were we supposed to do? They were also walking right through campsites the whole weekend, like they were on a patrol, busting people for things that are technically "illegal", but not necessarily "wrong". It really made for an uncomfortable vibe with everybody, including the folks that literally have zero to worry about getting busted for. NLQP made it clear that everybody better be on their best behavior b/c there were "undercovers everywhere" and that just made everyone suspicious of each other! They are kissing major police ass so they don't loose their venue, but even if they are able to keep it, that feeling is what will keep people from coming back!

Yes, I think camping is near the stage. It's all on the campus of Hocking College, from what I understand. I'm going specifically for the Flips and Yo La Tengo.

Love Bomba Estero's spot on Friday night, then Yo La Tengo into Flaming lips Saturday. That's going to be amazing. By the way, Duke Jr. and the Smokey Boots, who are playing Friday, are pretty good. The Spikedrivers on Sunday also come highly recommended.
After looking at their website for a while I am really hoping for one of two things. Ether that stage and field are alot bigger than they look, or there are alot less people going than I anticipate.
