It quickly became clear last year that an EZ UP was the most important part of the camp site but I can't really justify the $100+ expense. Is there any way to build an EZ-UP of decent quality with some home depot stuff or something?
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

We call these hard-ups, look for sales Dicks will run them about 70 in the spring, and of all places I bought a cheap one at Pep boys once.

when I was in college we got canopies there, definetly not anything at all like an ez-up but it worked. they lasted us at least two summers of usage but if your planning to do more than one fest and or other adventures the ez up investment is the best long run decision you can make.
I'm a penn stater so we tailgate games, use them at the beach instead of an umbrella, shows and fests and I've had the two ez ups I have now for the past 4-5 years with minimal wear
I'd say if you're planning on getting a lot of use out of it, then it's worth it to spend the money. I use mine for festivals, cookouts, tailgates, and at the beach. I bought mine at Ocean State Job Lot for about $70 in the spring.
I would highly suggest not skimping on a canopy. If it rains or gets windy, your canopy will be long gone. I spent $70 on mine, got it from K-Mart. Worth every penny.

I repeat DO NOT SKIMP ON A CANOPY. It will make or break your Roo.
We went the first Roo with a cheap canopy and it was absolute hell. Bought a nice one immediately after. Im not saying you need to take out a loan to get one, but dont think you are doing yourself a favor saving a few dollars sacrificing quality.
How do you keep them from flying away if the wind picks up?
The good, quality ones are sturdy enough that they probably won't fly away if the wind picks up. They have a place in the legs/feet where you can stake them into the ground, like you would a tent.
I just remember the cute Canadian boys that tried to set up camp next to us in 2009. It was pouring down rain, dark (it was like 8 o'clock Thursday night), and they had bought the cheapest canopy they could find at Wal-mart. They couldn't even get it set up because of the wind and rain.
Depending on your disposition, buying a low-end canopy can provide fun memories.
"Remember how we had to put that thing back up each time we came back to camp!?"
And, "haha, remember that time we came back to camp and found you asleep and the canopy had fallen down on top of you and you tried to tell us not to put it back up because you were comfortable!?"
Those are two legit sentences that come up sometimes between friends and I regarding Bonnaroo '06-'07. And hey, some people like a nice challenge. However, spending the $80 on a wal-mart E-Z up was the best $80 I ever spent on anything festival-related.
And it's essential if you aren't the type to laugh at your own misfortune.

LOL yes but keep in mind while you are making decision that in the middle of February in your house that things usually arent as funny in 100 degree Tennessee heat.
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

Definitely don't skimp on the EZ Up as previously noted. Definitely buy stakes for the legs of any EZ Up that you buy. It doesn't take much wind to get under the canopy and the next thing you know, your shelter is flying 20 feet in the air. I saw a good amount of this happening during the storm in '09. Saw a few flying again last year.
oops wait, thats $18 just for the shade i think lol. either way i found EZUPs at WalMart last year for $30. They were cheap, but owell they worked.
yeah. that's JUST the walls, essentially. I believe they have a First Up or something similar for $79. I went to Sears and got the online discount of $60. If you search, you'll find a good one cheap, but be careful not to buy crappy quality ones (read reviews!). It sounds like EZ Up and First Up are good choices, as far as I've seen.
Totally worth it to have a high quality EZ-UP. In 2009 we chilled under ours while all the other ones were getting destroyed around us during the storm.
