Last year as my friends and I were bringing our Rv's into roo we were told by security that charcoal grills weren't allowed and they than proceeded to take our charcoal, so we weren't able to cook our food. Until however the next day I saw in the general store a huge pile of bags of charcoal that they were selling for an insane amount of money. Did anyone else run into that problem? And is there anything else I have to worry about being confiscated to be sold back to me later?

Fires aren't allowed and I'm guessing your grill fell into that category. I personally think it has a lot to do with whos searching you car/rv and what they're finding.

You SHOULD have been allowed to bring the charcoal and a small grill. I've never known anyone to have any trouble, but, once again, it depends on who is checking you.

This is what the official website says:
SMALL grills and camping stoves will be allowed. No kegs, No pig roasts, no 55-gallon drums!
NO OPEN FIRES WILL BE PERMITTED.
PLEASE follow these instructions if you are planning on using a grill. You can use gas/propane fuel sources or charcoal, but scavenging for wood on site will NOT be permitted. The fire must be entirely contained and off the ground. Air quality is a concern. Please keep the fires as small as possible and extinguish them as soon as you are finished. When you are done cooking with charcoal, put it out with water before going into the show or going to sleep or leaving your camp, rather than letting it burn out over time. In any case, DO NOT DUMP COALS ON THE GROUND (ever) or in the trash until they are entirely cool. After the coals are COMPLETELY DEAD, dispose of them properly as garbage.
So yeah, you should be allowed to bring small charcoal grills in. Sounds to me like maybe the person who searched your car was just a little confused about it.

I'm glad you posted that, thank you. It was more than just the person who searched our rv though. There were 3 of them and on top of that they even radioed to someone else for confirmation. I wouldnt have been mad if I didn't see it being sold in the general store for like 50 bucks a bag
The fact is, the folks at the gates are not nearly the festie experts as the folks coming in. If you are bringing in anything that has the possibility of being confiscated (even though you know it's allowed), I suggest bringing a copy of the what not to bring list so you can show them (without being a dick about) that you are in fact allowed to bring your charcoal, for example.
What Clarity said is right on. Over the past six years I've had to pull out the rules to explain why what I was bringing in was OK. One year I even had to spend a great deal of time explaining why a hammer was not considered a weapon. I'm sorry, but when the explained to me, next to a pile of hammers that had been collected, that someone could be tripping on acid, run through the campgrounds, find my hammer and then use it as a weapon to kill someone I had to stop myself. (this SERIOUSLY happened and the explanation was done by a sworn officer). All I wanted to do was put in tent stakes. Made me wonder about all the RV's with knives and cars with tire irons.
Bottom line. Have a copy of the rules. Be polite. Don't be afraid to ask to speak to a supervisor and if that fails and actual police officer at the check point. We got the hammer in when we spoke with the local Sheriff.

Last two times i came we brought a full propane BBQ and tank... it sat in the back of my pickup in full view no one said anything... but what i thought was rediculous last year... is our group had 4 cars and one truck... so we threw all the beer in my pickup and entered at the same time... and at the gates they tried to take our beer saying we were only aloud 2 cases per person... since there was somewhere around 25 cases in the back of my truck we had to unload it into each car holding up everyone else in line just to put it back into my truck as we passed the gates
