So, apparently Cedric is over in Texas with them for SXSW... they also just did a secret show with 2 songs, and he was there. I don't think he performed with them.
I just realized this. Omar is playing on Friday, with a special guest vocalist per the Facebook event. The next day Free Moral Agents is playing the next day down the road. Could we see an impromptu TMV show in Atlanta?

Well, there has been sPeculation Cedric would be on the tour, but I'd not count on Ikey. He wasn't even with them the last show they played, but it's possible and has been suggested on the Coma. Personally... I paid to see an Omar show, not a Volta show.
^That's what I'm thinking too, honestly... I'm hoping that there's a good balance, though, of this new stuff and some of Omar's actual solo material, like the stuff he's been playing on his most recent tours.
Someone on the Coma who attended the Houston show last night had some tidbits that were pretty interesting:
"Fantastic show last night! I drove down from Austin and am running on like 4 hours of sleep so I'll keep my thoughts to bullet points:
1. Yes, as far as I can tell all songs are new and are not released on any album, solo or otherwise, so I can't really give a setlist except to say they played the one that's circulated from SxSW, as well as... 2. They did the Broken English jam. It was beautiful. 3. Yep, Cedric sang on everyone of them. His hair is soooo short. It's weird. It's like it's not even the same person up there. 4. Man, if this really is all knew Mars Volta material and not El Nuevo Grupo or something else, that'll be strange. The songs are more straight-forward, and Cedric's lyrics are actually linear and all full of complete sentences. I'm not used to completely following his lyrics, especially on first listen. 5. It's all still pretty new to Ced too, he had pages of lyrics sheets he would glance at. 6. Ced had a classic rant about people crowd surfing, what douchbags they were and how nobody in the front wanted a sweaty ass in their face, he'd chop off their nuts, etc... he ranted for a while. Omar looked awkward. He stepped up and said, "I like the temperature of this room. What a great temperature to be." He was joking, because it was hot and really humid in the room. 7. During the first song Cedric went into some Jim Morrison-esque rant about "getting the quack up" from your grave and asking who would ring the bell and tell them he's not dead...or something like that. 8. Why do smurfs have to yell during quiet parts? If you've listened to Omar's music you know that's just a quiet passage, not the end of the song. Or when Ced's whispering. SHUT THE quack UP. We don't need a random "FUCK YEAAAHHH!" during it. It in fact ruins it a little. 9. Some songs where Omar joined Ced for the chorus was AWESOME. I really liked it. 10. The song where Ced talks about being a landmine and not to step on him, that was pretty boss too."
Also, I asked him how long the sets were, expecting them to be short. He said Zechs played for about an hour, and Omar and Co. for around 2.
I really think Cedric will be on every date. How can they have two completely different shows to alternate between for this tour?
if memory serves me correctly, zechs marquise played for about 55 min. omar rodriguez-lopez group played approxiamately for 1 hr 30 min. i was hoping for a longer set, but it was fantastic just the way it was.
never been to sxsw, but from what ive heard (might be incorrect) set lengths are generally shorter to accomodate the number of artists per venue. with that in mind, i decided to drive to houston for a complete show, and it was well worth the trip!
I saw them in New Orleans and both bands were amazing!
Zechs was such a great performance. They sound the way TMV sounded in the early years, but without a vocalist. Every song was completely in together and flowed well, just a great show. I met Marcos Smith and Manfred Rodriguez Lopez after the show(they were selling shirts) and they were just great, genuine guys who were really excited by the fact that i said i loved their show. I want to see them again for sure
Cedric is definitely singing with ORLG for this part of the tour. Yes, his hair is short and his voice was spot on. He did some of his signature stage moves, but was less sarcastic than when i saw them at roo (i still loved his stage banter at roo). the first half of the show was a little shaky, but they blew the second half away. they didnt play any TMV songs, but almost the entire band was on stage: omar, cedric, juan, marcel, and deantoni.
you arent going to get many chances to see these guys in such small intimate places very often, so i HIGHLY recommend going to check them out in your area.
Atlanta show was farking boss. All of Mastodon was there and I got to speak briefly with Brann and Troy.
Zechs Marquise played for 45 minutes. Omar and Cedric came out 15 minutes early and played for 90 minutes. Truly amazing show. Some parts of the show, Cedric looked like a preacher speaking in tongues with his crazy as hell rants.
The show tonight was incredible. Omar played for close to 2 hours, Zechs for 35 or so. More to come tomorrow review wise, but Cedric seemed like he was posessed by demons.

sucks that i couldn't make it. damn rain, shitty vehicles and no money. looks like we missed a great one and you missed a great one earlier this week. sucks that we didn't get to see one together.
