Hi all!
Quick questions:
1) Is Pop-Up camping okay? 2) Are there hook-ups? Can we bring a generator? 3) How many minutes (walking distance) are the campsites from the music? I know this probably depends, is it an hour? 30 minutes? 4) We were going to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, but this is much closer and cheaper. How does it compare?
We're a group of 4 40ish year old woman wanting to have a girls' night away. Are there people our age??
Decisions, decisions....we're from Atlanta and are very interested!

I'm a first timer to this year, but if this gives you any idea about age ranges: I'll be 20 when I go and everyone I know who is going are between the ages of 19-24. I have never been though, so we may be some of the younger people there..... I just highly, highly doubt that.

Age wise, you will see everything. Look around the forums, there is a whole thread for those of us over 40 - and there are plenty of us! The people I know are from 28 - 50ish
1) A pop-up camper is fine to bring. You will need to purchase a RV pass if you decide either on General Admission or VIP
2) No, there are not any hookups of any kind in either General Admission or VIP. This is "dry" camping. Yes you can bring a generator, please make sure it is properly sized to power any of your appliances (air conditioning). FYI, there is no gas available on site so plan on bringing what you need for the weekend.
3) Depending on what RV lot they place you in that walking distance can vary. I would think within a hour you can be from your camp to Centeroo. Sorry I can't help you more with this, we have always stayed the the VIP / RV area.
4) Never been there. I'm sure smaller festivals are cheeper. There is so much more then music at Bonnaroo. There is lots to see and do. Want to do Yoga? Learn about organic gardening? Making craft beer? It's all there. Not to mention people watching.
Yes there are people "your" age !! I am 40 and my Wife is 39. This will be out fifth year attending. It has always been a amazing experience. Our first year we camped next to a couple in a pop-up that were in their early 70's ....
And Atlanta is a short drive. It is over 850 miles each way for us...
Here is my post on "Bringing a RV to Bonnaroo" read it a couple of times. It is really not that hard. Ask questions if you have them...
Hope to see you and your friends in Manchester Tennessee !!

Wow, thanks you guys! It's definitely a consideration seeing that it will be tough driving to Telluride and so many of the same bands are playing here. Great info about the Pop Up. After posting these questions I found your post, Gene, about more information. Wow! 850 miles??
Thanks dreamingtree for the ideas about age groups. I think we'd fit in fine! Do tickets go fast? Should we plan to buy them Saturday or will we have some time? Do the RV tickets sell out quickly???
I do not know how fast Tickets with RV passes go. My best guess says you will be fine for a couple of weeks. Of course the earlier the better. The last two years the festival has not looked "sold out"
We get ours as soon as they go on sale.
Are you going general admission or VIP ?
Yep, 850 each way. In 2010 I left on Monday morning around 8 AM local time, drove straight through and arrived in New Jersey at 2 AM Tuesday. I think this year with the motorhome I will take two days to come home.
we are 40 and this will be our fifth time at roo! get you tix saturday they sell out fast at that price and just get more expensive....definitly get your rv pass early as well!...I hope you guys have a wonderful spring getting ready for June! See you on the farm!

Is the RV pass General Admission or do you get an assigned "spot"? Is there a quiet time? (Gawd, I sound old)...will we get any sleep?
Great info!! I can already tell that I want to go, just by the friendly people who've taken the time to answer my newbie questions. Thanks bunches...y'all are the best!!
There is no assigned campin'. It's just a crapshoot. There is no sound logic to it.
There are periods where there is not music playin'. They aren't long (especially with the Lunar Stage last year). But your fellow Bonnarooers may not be the sleepin' or quiet type. You will get sleep. But you just have to make time fer it throughout the festival. Sometimes this means missin' artists you really wanna see.
Depending on where you end up camping..you may be able to hear the music ( not a BAD THING IN MY OPINION!) but as Dani said earlier...your neighbors may not be the sleeping type...Every Roo I bring earplugs(bought from walmart..the purple ones) and they help tremendously! I am able to sleep though anything then, except the sun at 7am!
Once you arrive they will direct you to your camping spot. With a pop-up you will have plenty of room.
Do you have a Awning on the pop-up? You also might want to consider another portable type shelter like a EZ-UP. From having a pop-up years ago you might want to look at buying Solar Bunkend covers to keep you cooler. A company called PopUp Gizmos make them or you can make your own using Reflectix.
I presume you have air conditioning in the pop-up?
Quiet time, I guess whenever you want it to be?? bands and DJ's play till around 4-6 AM and music starts up at around noon. Like the above poster said, bring earplugs. Take a nap under a tree during the day.
I've never found it so loud in the campgrounds that I couldn't sleep at night or nap during the day. Earplugs definitely help. And a fan not only cools you, but also provides some nice white noise.

What this girl said. I was near BFE last year and needed earplugs to get real true sleep due to the music and the partying neighbors.

Wow! Again, great advice. I guess ear plugs ARE a must. I probably wouldn't have thought of that.
Our pop up has an awning, we have an EZ-Up, we have gizmos, and A/C. We also have a Honda 3000 generator. It's going to be so much fun!!
Next question....I thought about this all day today at work.....when do the campgrounds open? Wednesday?? What time?? How long can you stay? Could we leave Monday?? What timedo we have to be outta there??
This sounds like a GRAND PLAN....bonaROOOOOOOOO!!!
how does the whole tent only camping thing work???
it is mostly for ppl who fly in and dont have a car but you can park and walk to tent only and set up there.. most ppl who move from their parking spot do so bc it is a shorter walk to centeroo from tent only
the camp grounds officially open thursday morning as soon as the sun rises and you can stay til monday morning
Yeah, the campgrounds officially open on Thursday mornin', but due to the sheer amount of people showin' up in Manchester, specificially 'round the Wally World, the have been fer a few years openin' the gates on Wednesday evenin'. Anywhere from 6-8pm is what I've heard/experienced.
Hello. This will be my first bonnaroo. I appreciate all the great info on this site. I have a camping question. I am driving in with 4 people in one car. We decided it will be better to just sleep in one 10-10 tent and bring an EZ up for shade. If the tent exceeds the space, what do you do? Has anyone ever been stuck in a situation where they couldn't set up camp because the room was taken up?

if all else fails, just ask your neighbors to move. who knows -- last year the guy on one side of us went to camp with his friends, so we divvied up the space with our other neighbors. In general, I wouldn't worry about it. I've always had room for at least two two-person tents
