i dont think theyll conflict this time. In 09 EVERYONE complained how there was nothing but electro/dance for friday latenight. The electro fans had too many conflicts and people who dont like electro had nothing. In 2010 they spaced it out much better: indie or rap tent, jam tent, electro tent for latenights. I think they learned a lesson and will probably stick to this. Theyll probably share a tent or play different nights.
i like pretty lights, but girl talk just comes off as unoriginal and uninspired
heh - have you listened to the Pretty Lights Unreleased Remixes 2010 EP (which are obviously now released)?
I'd have to say taking classic rock songs and basically remixing them is uninspired at times also
But it's all a good time - the point of Girl Talk, Bassnectar, Mimosa, Pretty Lights, or any of it is to make you want to get up and dance - and - if it makes you want to do that whn you are at a show - then it is a success

no, i haven't heard the newest album. i've been on a reggae/funk kick for a while, and everything else has kinda fallen to the wayside. however, GT is almost nothing but mashups, which IMO makes him way less inspired than PL.
i will say, though, that GT impressed me more at The Hangout last year than he has at any of the other 3 shows i've seen.

I saw both acts at Moogfest. I was into both, but preferred Girl Talk. Girl Talk had a large visual/party element going on during his set. He came out dressed as Freddy Krueger, got up on a table, and brought out a ton of costumed dancers. People were singing along to the songs and dancing the whole time. I only caught half of Pretty Lights and was unfortunately rather drunk so I can't give a total assessment of him. All I know is I had a lot of fun dancing during his set, but musically/visually it didn't match with Girl Talk. I should note that I love Girl Talk and literally played Feed The Animals about fifty times one summer. I will not be missing Girl Talk at Roo X, would love to see Pretty Lights again but will skip it if there's any conflicts with something better/something I haven't seen.
Does Adam Deitch always play with PL? He puts them over the top.
wait are you serious? he plays with PL? holy shit. dude is probably one of the greatest drummers in the world. PL was a must see for me this year, but now it might jump to the "insoluble against conflict" category.
The same person who says Girltalk throws a party says he's uninspired...
Newsflash: Girltalk's mission is to create an irreverant party mix using top dance pop hits combined with rock classics. He's not an IDM artist.
See - this is why most of the regulars on here avoid Troo Music - why can't their be a civilized discussion?
hippie - u know I <3 you - I wasn't trying to be snide when I replied to you - so I apologize if it came off that way - I like GT, I like Pretty Lights - I like anything that makes me wanna get up and dance - right?

Our definition of snide and civilized must be drastically different but Sorry for offending you.
FYI if you don't want to be lambasted, don't make general statements about an artist/performer, especially contradicting ones. This thread started out as neutral-positive until people came in with the vomit analogies and the "uninspired" (read: sucks) commentary, which will always lead to sharp rebuttals and defensive arguments.
You could have easily said "I find that Girl Talk is a party but Pretty Lights is the musically gifted one." See what I did there?

PL.
even though they both sample, one to a much greater extent, the two IMO are completely different. however, 2009 i feel i made the best choice and i will make the same choice again... if there is a conflict

Going with Girl Talk just because you truly have no idea what you are gonna hear while he is playing. The sheer craziness of his mashups are wonderful.
Nothing against Pretty Lights though. Fine in there own right i just don't wanna miss things trying to wander between the two, especially if they are way apart.

If they conflict I'll check out Pretty Lights for sure. I do want to see Girl Talk though, the set in 09 was a party.
As far as Girl Talk originality, I understand people's complaints, but "It's not where you take things from- it's where you take them to". Yea it's all mashups, but his show makes for a good time imo

^^ I like the quote, but i still think you can only take samples so far. Unless he starts sampling live recordings of the actual artists you still end up with two album tracks pushed together. It might not be the exact same, instead of using a biggy beat, maybe he'll use a dre or cube beat with Phil Collins, but its still the same i think.

I would hope that I would not have to make this decision again. In '09 I went to PL and it was a good show. I have never seen GT so that is a priority for me this year.
