Last year went to hell largely because of the rain. When I finally got in after sitting in line all night, there were still several cars getting stuck in the mud at the entrance I came in (the direct one from I-24). I personally prescribe to the "it's a total crapshoot" theory on wait time. I would say that earlier is better simply because it cuts down on your risk of missing acts Thursday.
This year, Bonnaroo will open Wednesday evening June 8th, 2011 to allow more time for vehicles to enter the campgrounds. The parking lot and campground will open at about 7:00 PM on Wednesday and will close around 3:00 PM on Monday. Historically, the longest delays for arriving attendees have occurred from 4:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, so consider these peak delay times when you plan your trip. Come early and get ahead of the crowd!
I don't know...I wonder if this will shift the time people start lining up even earlier...but hopefully it'll alleviate some traffic.....
HAHA! Yes. This is a certainty. Maybe the solution is to just leave the gates open all the time. Some will decide to live there. Others will decide to come in Friday morning, and we'll have everything in between. I guess it's not reasonable to add a four lane highway exclusively for the farm. lol

How do you think this will effect your arrival times? I'm a Bonnaroo noob this year and I had been planning on arriving early Thursday morning in hopes of getting a prime parking spot. Does this mean maybe I should arrive earlier?

These are my thoughts and plans. What time do you want to set up camp? figure that out count about 8 hours before that and that's when you should arrive? Maybe you'll get in earlier and maybe a little later. Consider are there bands you want to see on Thursday? How tired will you be when you get your camp up, maybe you might need an hour or two power nap. Are you prepared to set up in the dark? Before you get near Bonaroo, fill up the car, go to the bathroom, get out some snacks, magazines, or something to entertain in line, don't drink alot particuarlly caffine or alchol they will make you need to go more often. Be in a good mood, hey youre going to Roo and will be having a blast for the next 3 days.

My guess is that they will fill everything the same way that they have in the past: BFE first, then whatever they usually do (but we can never figure out) with the rest of the farm. It will definitely alleviate some traffic problems. More people coming in on Wednesday means less people coming in on Thursday.
The question becomes just how many people are going to come in on Wednesday that don't normally. My guess - based on the number of n00bs that have posted here this year - is a lot. I see rookies as tending to be super anxious about getting to the farm asap to get their Bonnaroo experience started (I guess that applies to a lot more than new Roo-ers, also). I can't see a scenario in which a Weds night official gate opening could bring in less cars than an unofficial Weds night opening.
My plans have been to aim to get in traffic somewhere between 3-6am Thursday and I am pretty sure I will keep that time frame. It gives me probably 10 hours or more before the first show, so worst case - bad weather, horribly long traffic, etc - I should still make any Thursday show that I want to see. Also, I am pretty sure I'll not be in BFE (which would be fine, but I would rather not be there again this year).

I just always count on it being ridiculously crappy. In eight years it's always taken between 6-12 hrs to enter. If this year's an exception, I'll just be that much more relieved. Either way the pema-grin will be in full effect from the minute I step onto the Farm.

This will be my 4th Roo and I've never experienced any nightmarish traffic. First two years went in around 1 or 2 pm Thursday and then in 08 we went in around 7 pm Thursday (that was my longest wait ever at about 1 or 2 hours).
Is most of this horrible traffic for people coming from the East? I've always come from Texas and taken i24 from Nashville and have never seen anything close to 5-8 hour waits.
The first two years I went we got in line around 12-1pm. First year in '07 was the worst with a six hour wait in line, and my car's A/C was pretty shoddy. '08 we were in live fer five hours. The next two years my campmates and I went in Wednesday night and were only in line fer one or two hours. In fact two hours I'm sure this past year but that I believe was mostly because of the rain.
I saw a map on here somewhere where BFE was actually pointed out and that is in fact where we were. I don't know why people think its so bad there. We didn't mind it too much especially once we figured out we could get into centeroo through a gate by the what stage.
^^^This! I was down the street when the gates opened (6PM Wednesday). Was in line by 6:10 and at my campsite by 7:15 ish. Easy. I was especially happy that we got there about 15-20 minutes before the torrential downpours. The drive in was easy and that was just enough time to set up the tent and EZ Up (we put the walls up for the rain) before it came down. We met some neighbors and then went to bed early! We were right in the beginning of BFE (Camp OddJob) and I hope to be again!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'm in the same boat as you. These people talking about 12 hour waits must have pissed God off or something. In my 7 years, my worst wait was 3+ hours and that was 2003 when the staff didn't know what they were doing. Every other year, it has been 1-2 hours.
If you don't plan on seeing Thursday bands, come after midnight (2 am is even better), and go to the entrance coming from Nashville. You get a campsite off mainstreet that's about a 15-20 minute walk to centeroo. I have been in the same camping area 6 out of 7 years doing this, and you still have time to set up camp and get a healthy nap before Friday festivities.
Unfortunately, I can't leave until Friday morning this year. Anyone got any traffic advice concerning Friday travel? What wait time should I expect?
I would loveeeee to see someone try and cut me off after waiting in line for hours. They'd have 6 unpleasant Chicagoans to deal with realllll quick. FUK LINE JUMPERS. wait ur turn!!! The people u cutoff will be your neighbors. And some people aren't as friendly as others

THIS.
Probably the biggest reason waiting to get in is difficult for me. I see cutter after cutter get in front of me (several cars up of course, I'm on my game) and it makes me irate. Then I have several hours to sit there and stew about it. What can we do to stop this? Also, when I read posts like a couple of the ones up there^^, about never waiting to get in, it makes me wonder if we have line jumpers here on inforoo....
11/2/19: Tool 5/17/19: Blues Traveler 5/9/19: Tool 11/10/18: Tenacious D 9/20/18: White Denim 7/23/18: Radiohead 6/4/18: Jack White 5/20/18: Tool 5/18/18: A Perfect Circle 5/18/18: Alice in Chains 5/6/18: Blind Melon
Last year we drove from Ohio to Nashville on Wednesday. Got to our hotel around midnight, stayed the night, got up, one last shower, breakfast and got to Manchester in line at 8am. We were at out campsite at 10am. Exactly a 2 hr wait, that's including going through the tollbooths/search, etc... I didn't think it was that bad at all. I heard horror stories of people coming in late Wed night and literally sitting in line all night. I don't even want to chance that. I'd rather get one last good nights sleep & shower and try our chances early the next morning.
09 - Came in through the woods on foot. No wait. 10 - Volunteered. No wait. 11 - Half an hour. Then the motorcycle we were with scouted it out and found the quick way in. 12 - I now know the quick way in.
On a total side note... Jeff Tweedy was born in Belleville? So was I... Seems I'm in good company.
Anyway. In 09 we got in line around 3 AM Thursday morning, waited for maybe an hour at the most, camped in BFE. in 10 I got in line around 6:30 AM Thursday, waited in line around 2 hours, camped pretty far out, but not as bad as 09. And last year we got in line around 6 AM Thurs. and waited in line for almost 4 hours and were in BFE. Don't remember exact pod numbers.
So going from my anecdotal evidence it's a total crapshoot.
08 - came in Thursday around 10am. waited maybe 2 hours, ended up in Chewbacca, super close.
11- came in wednesday evening, in line around 6:30, waited about 2 hours, ended up in P. Galore in BFE
I got in line 30 mins tops after you did, 7pm wednesday night. NOT as fortunate as you with the wait, however. We finally got parked a few mins after midnight, same same area as you. In Camp Gleek i believe, bottom far right.

Crapshoot it is... I was debating arriving thurs morning this year after reading many posts about BFE getting filled first, but after your experience i guess it isn't always so. Where on the map did you get parked??
Umm I don't remember where I was parked in '10. But in '09 we were in 53 I think or somewhere close to it, it wasn't bad once they opened the smaller What Stage entrance. In '11 we were in 11 I think. Camp Dharma Initiative or Lost or something. It was a pretty long hike, but not as bad as some people.
This year I plan on trying to get into line around 8 AM Thursday. I think this will be late enough to maybe get a decent spot, but early enough to still make it to all the Thursday shows I want to see.
