Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I love Bonnaroo, this will be my third year. My wife came with me last year, but she got too hot and passed out and I ended up driving her out of there Friday afternoon, of course, we all know just how hot last year was.
She just can't keep hydrated in the heat. I've suggested everything from spray bottles, to wet headbands, to a kiddie pool. But she's worried about trying again. My first thought is that in the next few years I'll probably have to rent an RV. In the meantime, is there a good Roo alternative in the eastern half of the country that isn't quite so hot? I know Rothbury would probably be tolerable for her, but who knows if that will happen again.
Try the which stage festivals section about 5 inches below the everything bonnaroo related part of this board.
We take a crew to AllGood, but it is just as hot during the day, however it makes up for it by being freezing cold at night. Maybe Nativa, or Mountain jam up north will do you guys better.
There are tons of Festivals. A lot of them are north and have comfortable weather.
Check out... Mountain Jam All Good Camp Bisco Moe Down
I would suggest Mountain Jam. I'm hitting that one up the week before Bonnaroo. Bringing the kids with me because it's cheaper than hauling them all down to TN.
Yeah but I don't remember the humidity at All Good. And there are trees everywhere. The only thing that sucks is the Hill of Death.
Maybe I'm wrong about the heat, because it's been a few years since I've been there. I'm planning on going again this year.
I have been in 08 and last year, I do not remember 08 being terrible. Last year however was pretty brutal, It was either 95 in the shade or raining/freezing the whole time.
Last years Allgood was the hottest I have ever seen it up there on the mountain. Like Karen said, the humidity isnt quite as bad at AG, and the latenights can get downright COLD!!!
But nothing quite like that weekend on the mountain in July!!!
with out a doubt, the best fest for weather is the hangout. if you are talking your wife she will love ya more for it.
i went the first 3 years of bonaroo and the one couple of years ago w phish, that one we got a rv. even w a rv it can be brutal. i dont know how we did it without an rv. tent being unbearable once sun comes up is not the best way to keep a women happy.
hey, fests are soooo much more fun when the women are happy. take her to the beach. go with buddies to roo.
Gathering of the Vibes was fun last year. The schedule made it so that most of the bands I wanted to see were friday night/saturday night, and it's really cool because you can walk down to the beach during the day, lay out, swim in the ocean, and then go back to your tent, clean up, and head to some shows.
I actually have no desire to go to Hangout. I have no intrest in festival that I have to pay a separate fee for camping/lodging. I haven't done it in 13 years and I'm not going to start now.

AllGood is every bit as hot as Bonnaroo during the day.
i would disagree. i don't know if it's the efficiency of getting back to the tent or to some shade that made it better, but i never thought it got as bad as Roo. to be fair, though, my only year at AG was last year.
on the upside, if you do get rain at AG, there's no traipsing through ankle-deep mud. it's just wet grass and packed gravel.
The first couple of years for All Good were rough if I remember correctly. I think one year they were handing out pairs of socks to people because it was so cold.
its always a good time but roo is the worst festival when not taking music into consideration.
always hot, no shade, heaven forbid it rain, walking distance from camp etc.
considering the roos lineups compared to others in recent years.............
to the op, what kind of girl is she? a high maintenance trophy wife, i take those to coachella hangout (dont have to camp). if she is a wookie, then roo it is. most women like to be clean. showers not cooler baths. rv and condos keeps em happy.

the first 3-4 years the fest was held in may, and the temps were even cooler than they are in July

The thing about All Good is you could, by sheer bad luck, get parked way in the back, overlooking the river valley. That would mean you and your wife would have to walk up and down a couple of pretty steep hills just to get to the stage area. Throw in some heat, and you could have the same trouble on Marvin's Mountaintop you had on the farm. My suggestion is if you live in South Carolina check out Spirit of Suwanee Music Park. They throw Wanee, Suwanee Springfest and Magnolia Fest. It's also one of the nicest festival grounds I've ever seen. There's a river nearby and a natural spring, and you can swim/wade in both on a hot day. There's also wooded camping, and a real chill, friendly vibe.

i'd say all good, mountain jam, vibes.
heat is not an issue at any of these, as far as my experiences go.
i think all good might have the most diverse lineup. i know mountain jam has been expanding its late night options and usually carry some of the more "classic rock" acts i guess, like gathering of the vibes. Basically, Warren Haynes puts on Mountain Jam, Gathering of the Vibes is the "Grateful Dead" festival IMO, and all good just covers it all.

Yeah, the last time I made it to all good was in 2003, I think. It was in early May at that time and it was freezing cold and wet. I think it was the first year they did it in WV. Before that it was in Spotsylvania, VA. Anyway, it was tons of fun, awesome lineup and a great weekend, but you definitely had to be prepared for the cold. I guess that's why they moved it to July.

Do you mean for you, or in general? there's been official confirmation it's now the Electric Forest festival. same place. june 30th weekend. I'm just not sure what theyre going to announce the lineup to be next Monday and prices and whatnot, so I'm sure with new sponsoring it'll be a bit different, but still exciting nonetheless.
Now, if you already know this and are just sayin cause of distance/cost and whatnot from SC, then I don't blame you for being hesitant. It's about 12 hours from the DC area and that's double what I'm used to doing (NY fests). Electric Forest sounds real intriguing to go at least once though, especially if ticket prices drop compared to previous Rothbury prices. *shrug*
The Electric Forest is a String Cheese festival Ellie.
I know. but theres still no official word on what kind of lineup theyre gonna have for sure. some people are sayin more electronica cause of Insomniac's sponsoring and others complaining not to have too much. *shrugs* I dunno
there was talk of rothbury as if it completely ended by dalven, but it's just changed to Electric Forest (even though lineup may be different now compared to the original Rothbury)
I havent been and am not real educated about music artists and genres and any new EF news and whatnot, but I thought i'd clear up the fact that Rothbury substitute is still happening.
