There are 7 of us that are carpooling from Iowa in a Caravan...we are camping with 2-3 tents. Can we buy more that one camping spot if we have just one vehicle in the general camping area? I see that there is plenty of room for one tent and a shade pop up, but we are hoping to be able to purchase some more room. Really not wanting to drive two separate vehicles just to get more tent space.
In GA you get what you get, on avg 15x15 but I've had tiny spots (8x8) and huge spots (30x90). The only way to get more space is to move to Tent Only. There you get as much as you can grab.
You can always ask the parking guy to let you scoot over a bit. Some are nice enough to allow it and some are really d!cks (maybe from standing in the sun all day)
That being said, most neighbors are really cool and you kind of overlap spots and hang out together anyway. Ive seen 3 tents in lots of single camping spots but you never know what you'll get for sure.
I guess I should answer the question - No you cannot buy additional space.

7 people in one camping spot has the potential to be super cramped. You only get one space per vehicle. My group has been somewhat lucky with camping the past couple years, we always seems to have more room than was expected, but there are no guarantees. If you guys are locked in to bringing one vehicle you may want to opt for carrying your gear and setting up in Tent Only.

I've been lucky every year and there has been more than enough room for us to have 2 big tents and a shade tent. There was tons of open space around us that we could have used also. I know that isn't always the case but you might get lucky

There are no "camp sites" and therefore you can't purchase space. When you park your car, the attendants are going to motion for you to park close to the car beside you. Don't do it. The only way to give yourself more room is to leave space between vehicles.
It is a free-for-all when you park. the first one to claim the land gets the land. With this is mind, don't screw over your neighbors either.

I wouldn't go that far. We strike lines before you get there, so there are certain places you are supposed to park, or camp, whichever word you prefer. The grass grows so damn fast that sometimes you can't see them, but they're there. Can you buy two of those? No, sorry.
Don't be a dick either, if we ask you to do something, please do it. We obviously don't want you sardined in there, but don't try and give yourself too much room. If you do, we'll make you pull out and park again. By doing this, you are delaying EVERYONE from getting into Roo. If you ask me, that's being more of a dick than any of my co-workers could hope to be.
With that in mind, don't screw over the employees either. Auditors are known to cut off a wristband of an employee who is doing a poor job, like letting people park wherever the hell they want. Most of these people are here for the music too, and by doing whatever the hell you'd like can threaten that persons job and ticket, so keep that in mind before telling people to break the rules
Also sometimes you will have a square section. Some times an oval one. One year we had a culdesac of about four or five camps. That was pretty cool because we set up tables and drinks for all the camps.
But don't ever count on a certain amount of space. Just pack your car smartly so you can unpack it quickly and know how to set up camp fast.
Some advice would be to wait to pound the first few beers until after camp is set up. I know it's tempting but try to hold out.
In 2009, we we only had 5x6 spot...our neighbors had set up a 20 ft octagonal screen room and two tents and left us no room...but our other side neighbors were going to camp in Tent Only so they let us use the space in front of their car. In 2007, we had a 30x30 spot and used it as a communal area for the roo-noobs next to us to share our shade and chairs ( which was awesome by the way!) So all in all, you never know what you are going to get!
If you want to go to tent only, you are parked in the regular GA camping. If you don't want to set up camp there you drag all of your gear to the Tent Only section. I don't remember what time the taxi's start running. But if they are you might be able to grab one of them. They are 5$ a ride.
If you just plan on walking I suggest you bring a wagon and some bungee cords. It'll make life alot easier.
But is all honesty the walk isn't that bad. I've been pretty far away too.
Minivans have a lot of space, but are you really going to have enough for 7 people's worth of stuff? 2-3 tents, EZ-ups, coolers, clothes - it's all bulky stuff
You might want to have two vehicles just so you're comfortable on the drive and can fit everything without having bags on your lap.

This. We almost put 4 people in our car last year but then realized someone would be riding for 11 hours with a 5-day cooler in their lap. Was worth the gas for some comfort and the guarantee of enough space on the Farm.
