Alright, so me and a group of buddies (2 RV's Full) are heading down from NY to attend this INCREDIBLE event for the first time. Since we just graduated college, we've all been working full-time for a year so we are rewarding ourselves with this trip!
That being said, TIPS FOR RV'ing?? I have heard the traffic is absolutely TERRIBLE, so what would be a good time to arrive there? ( Here's a google map preview maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=albany,+ny&daddr=manchester,+tn&hl=en&geocode=FaPTigIduJGa-ylL-0_MNAreiTHEKOegEmOh4Q%3BFY9oHQIdaWTe-iljcP00YWhhiDHkSu2-7VWaAA&mra=ls&sll=42.244785,-73.223877&sspn=1.435413,4.460449&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=5 ). Says it should take a little over 16 hours.
What would be the ideal time to leave/get there in order to have enough time to set up and Leno? Usually, when is the first act?
This will have some basic information on the systems in a RV. The rental company will also give you a walk through of the systems when you pick up the RV.
I see that you are 22, most rental and insurance companies do not rent to anyone under 25 years old. You might want to check around. From a top RV rental company "All you need is to be 25 years of age or older and possess a valid driver’s license and a major credit card"
As far as the drive time, 16 hours is the minimum. Realistically from your location with fuel stops, traffic and since driving a RV not not like a car I would say 20 hours. I would leave Wednesday morning and drive throughout the day, this would get you there by late Wednesday.
Can't help when the best time to arrive is in General Admission since we go VIP. My guess would be Wednesday night to early morning on Thursday. I think Centeroo opens up around noon on Thursday and bands start to play a little after that.
We brought an RV for the first time in 2009 and the Gene's FAQ on taking an RV to Bonnaroo thread was a huge help. Never would have thought to bring planks to even out the RV but that turned out to be a saving grace, as did the advice on placement of the RV so you aren't sucking in your neighbour's fumes. We took our time driving down from Toronto in the RV and had to pay around $100 to have our freshwater tank filled and waste water tanks emptied at the fest so that is one expense to consider if you will be using the tanks a lot before you even get to Bonnaroo. Or you can also stay overnight at a KOA and get a site with hook-ups for less.
I will be there, in VIP RV camping! My group missed last year to attend a friend's wedding so I feel like I'm even more excited than usual for 2011, although I'm always ridiculously excited for Roo so maybe not.
