first time going to roo, been to the last 3 wakarusa's in the ozarks, but decided to go to roo this year. How are the two similar/different? is the packing list different? how about the atmosphere? i'll be with 10 first time festival goers and they are all looking to me for guidance, which is a scary thing for them i assure you.

Never been to waka so I can't help you there, but there are tons of people on here who have so I'm sure someone will be able to compare/contrast a bit for ya.
But anyway, just wanted to say welcome! You're gonna have a great time! ;D
I have not been to Wakarusa so I can't help you compare the two, but if I may make a suggestion, you should change the title of this thread to "Roo vs. Waka - pros and cons" or something to that effect for a better response. A lot of the threads with titles like this one tend to get ignored because people assume it'll be the same questions that have been answered hundreds of times, like "I'm under 21, will they take my beer?" or stuff like that.
However, I would assume the packing list would be pretty much identical, other than maybe some lighter clothing for Roo.

thanks for the tip man. lol, i'm defiantly over 21, i was also wondering about the availability and variety of....i think you guys call it corn around here. I would rather not risk traveling with it, but i'm willing to if needed.
This is my third year to do both. With Roo the main difference for me is I always do "tent-only"so I can be close to Centaroo. Because of this I pack much lighter for Roo because I have to haul all my crap to tent only by hand.
As far as atmosphere goes, I'd say the vibe is very similar. Most everyone at Roo are there for the right reasons and super friendly. Waka is generally more laid back though because of there being fewer people. The main difference I'd say with Roo is there is just so much more to see and do. It's an assault on the senses but in a good way!
fwiw, corn seems to be hardest vegetable to find at the market, not to say its not there, but still worth taking into consideration.
that is exactly what i was wondering. i think i'll bring a little of my brand, and see if i can find some exotic stuff whilst there.
I'm really excited about bonnaroo, even though i'm feel i'm cheating on waka a little. (i celebrate my bday there normally)
one thing that seems to be different from here is at waka there is no centralized area, they stages are on different parts of the grounds. Are all the stages, tents ect located at centeroo?

They are but centeroo is about 2/3rds the size of the waka grounds.

Karma for using the word "whilst" in your post. Very cool.
