Newbies are a good thing. Like the above post said roo would have fizzled out without the new blood. This is only my 2nd year and i'm in it for life (or however long it lasts) I've been on Roo's website in the Ask Gary section and there are tons of people on there asking if they can just purchase a 1 day ticket because they only want to see Eminem!
I'm not speaking for the Roo virgins on this forum, but I feel there is going to be an influx for Roo virgins this year in general for various reasons. First, the fest is getting way more mainstream coverage and does so each additional year. Also, the the growing number of hip-hop acts they add, you get a different segment of music fan going to the fest (and possibly turning off others). Finally, ever since MTV bought the festival, it's brought a different appeal.
I will say this however, keep in mind this time of year hundreds of thousands of people CLAIM they will be going but only 80k go. It's the pie in the sky excitement time of the year. I guarantee that even from this forum, there will be some people who say they are going to go but won't make it to the fest.

This breaks my heart considering all the actual talent on the bill this year.
Stop saying 'Roo was bought by MTV....it wasn't. Roo started, got bigger and bigger each year, selling more tickets, so therefore they book more mainstream acts to keep growing. End of story. There's still 75+ amazing undercard acts that are booked each year that are everything people ask for.
Honestly from reading the boards 4 or so months leading up to the line-up release...we got exactly what we asked for, minus some very very long shot acts that are hoped for EVERY year(Phish, Radiohead, Ben Harper etc.)
I personally love that 'roo keeps growing every year...it's just making it that much more special than every other fest that goes on, IMO.

Actually, my mom bought Bonnaroo. Next year's headliners will be K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Little River Band, and The Eagles. Shows will start at 5am and the late night shows will be from 9:30pm-10pm.

Radiohead was the band that finally brought me in and have been back every year since. I think everybody needs that band to motivate them enough to make an expensive purchase and put up with what some consider minor inconveniences (cramped in, camping in tent, extreme heat, overpriced food, long wait in line, etc) Maybe Eminem is doing that for a whole new core group of music fans, similar to what Radiohead did for a lot of us.
For those looking for 1 day passes to see Eminem, they'll realize one of two things: Either Bonnaroo is so much more than Eminem, and they'll be hooked, just like us, or they'll decide that the heat/camping/dust/rain and consequential mud (if it happens, please make it Sunday)/that huge crowd infront of the stage is already too packed for you to fight your way through is far worse than getting to see Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, and Eminem on the same bill.
If these types of people actually come to Roo, I'd bet on a large exodus on Friday morning

kinda funny actually, we usually have one maybe two every year. which has the roo crew at considerable numbers over the past nine years but we're bringing along 4 bonnavirgins this year
Yea I have 6 rooks saying they are going, as usual every year though. I'm sure it will end up being my same crew (2 people) as past years.
It's going to be cool seeing Em and Wayne but they certainly aren't they main acts I'm worried about, and the ones that are coming only for them will be in for a rude awakening when they aren't properly prepared for 4 days in the sun.
Robert Plant, Mumford & Sons, Warren Haynes, My Morning Jacket, Greg Allman, STS9, Bassnectar...thats where I'm at.

yeah Im a virgin but have been to bonnaroo every year since 2006 I have 3 bonnarookies going this year and they bought tickets so no backing out like other years
so what if eminem is bringing people, he's amazing and that only benefits bonnaroo, i have 7 newbies going mostly cause eminem, and i dont see a problem with that and none of them are "those type of people", eminem will be opening these people up to the wonderful world of BONNAROO, it sucks that those going for eminem have to come on this board and feel like they arent welcome because some ROO vets are hating! HAVE FUN ROOKIES!

This. I love all kinds of music. I wouldn't say I'm a huge Eminem fan so I'm glad I get the opportunity to see him at a festival (definitely wouldn't pay to see an arena tour of his :/ ). MUMFORD RIGHT NOW PLEASE!

<----- Roo n00b here. Thanks to all who post and answer questions for the Bonnarookies who are coming to the farm for the first time. I have high expectations for this festival, I am coming all the way from Tahoe California.
If there is not an act I want to see while Eminem is playing I will go see him, thats what I did at Coachella last year but with Jay-Z and had a great time =D see you all in June. LOVE.
Black Keys, Bassnectar, Girl Talk, Mumford and Sons, Ratatat, Freelance Whales, Beirut, Pretty Lights, Beats Antique, Buffalo Springfield, Matt&Kim, Chiddy Bang, Sleigh Bells, Band of Skulls, Man Man

Can just about guarantee that no one else will be playin' durin' Eminem. Maybe a Cafe or Troo Music Lounge act, but they aren't a major artist. Unlike Coachella, Bonnaroo's headliners play unopposed (except fer those Cafe or Troo Music sets).

I haven't seen them live yet but I watched the Grammys just to see them with Bob Dylan and the Avett Brothers (who I really like as well). Mumford is the style music I've been leaning towards more recently. That twangy sounding stuff...if that makes sense.
