So, coming from Metro Detroit originally, I grew up loving these guys... They're playing Coachella, and wondered what everyone thought about the odds of catching them at Bonnaroo?
Would be a can't miss for me and my wife if they did...
Oh, I wish they would play Bonnaroo. I see you're from the Nashville area.... do you remember Dancin' in the District? The Tragically Hip played it one time, and I didn't go (mostly because I was still in high school and it was a school night. Yes, this was like 13 years ago)... I've regretted it ever since.

Hardly anybody knows about these guys in America, and I doubt they ever will at this point. I used to compare them to DMB in the sense that they are huge in America, but never tried to conquer any other markets.
DMB are pretty huge with the Frat crowd in Canada as well. But you may be referring to America in the sense North America and/or South America, not just the United States.

I was referring to the States, but I wasn't sure how popular DMB was/is in Canada. I know they always play a few Canadian dates each tour, but I didn't know the extent of their popularity. It just always seemed like they would tread the same tracks over and over again, never even contemplating going on an extensive tour of another country. I would love to see the Hip get added, because they never come down South and I probably will never get to see them. I'm sure I would be the only person in my Roo caravan who has even heard of them though lol
It is just Gord playing Coachella, not the Hip. Im not sure why COS put him down as an add either because he was on the initial lineup. I think if the Tragically Hip played Roo a lot of people who didn't know them and stumbled into their show would be impressed, personally though ive grown pretty tired of them over the last five years or so. You can't turn on the radio in Canada without hearing the Hip or Metric and the overplay has ruined both of them for me. To absolutevonnegut, i lived in a dorm in Fredericton NB, from 2001-2003 and i can tell you DMB was huge. You couldnt walk through the hall of the dorm without hearing 4 different DMB songs coming out of 4 different rooms. I dont listen to them so i do know much about their popularity right now, but i know they use to be big in Canada

I graduated from St Thomas is 02. Small world.
I graduated from UNB in 05, im actually taking a trip to Fredericton in a couple weeks. I was there in October to see The Hold Steady but didnt get a chance to look around, lots of new additions to campus from what i hear
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
If they were at Bonnaroo and I wasn't busy I would check out the first few songs for all the Canadian crazyness but then probably leave. I've seen them more than 12 times outdoors, indoors, small venue, big venue, ect. Enough is enough. LOL
Nonetheless they are an incredible live band and anyone who has yet to experience a Hip show should most definitely check one out.
I saw them at Woodstock, too, and thought that they put on a good show. If we were getting a Canadian add I'd rather it be Great Big Sea. My favorite live show around.

There are much, much, much, much, better Canadian bands to get at Roo that aren't already playing (Neil Young/Arcade Fire are already there) than the Tragically Hip.
How about Hey Rosetta, Black Mountain, Pink Mountaintops and/or Forest City Lovers for Canadian influence?
I really thought Black Mountain would be there this year. If we could get any of Broken Social Scene, Fucked Up, Death From Above or Rural Alberta Advantage as an add I would be very happy
Yay Hip! they're from my hometown. That would be pretty cool to have them on the farm...I am not their biggest fan but they put on a good show and have some really, really good tunes...

Sam Roberts would another great addition. Their new album comes out soon.
I love the hip... have been listening them for I'm sure at least 15 years.
With that said... I'm not bummed they WON'T be at Roo this year. As somebody said it is NOT the Hip playing coachella.
Though if you get a chance... go check out the HIP... they only have one show listed for this year and that is the Canada day celebrations. Gordie is going to tear the stage up for Canada.
I forgot about BSS. Yes they would be a great add, and I'll take them before the Hip as well.
BSS may be releasing better music than the HIP nowadays, but their live show doesn't even come close to a HIP show even if they bring Emily Haines or Feist.

I have absolutely no opinion on this matter.
If you're reffering to Gord's stage presence and antics you're right, but not many frontmen have what he has. Also the Hip/Downie tour so much and often do multiple nights in the cities where they have bigger crowds. That is a lot of Hip shows compared to the frequency of BSS shows. So for me personally I will take a BSS show over the Hip because I have seen them countless times.
