My old tent had a floor that was basically like tarp material, and it was practically bullet proof (and waterproof, too). This one is the same taffeta material as the rest of the tent, just a little thicker. It has seems and stuff on the bottom, too.
I'm worried that this will be more prone to leaking and/or ripping. Does anyone know anything about tent floors?
Good ideas people. If I keep this, I will definitely put a tarp under it. I'm more trying to decide if I should return it and get something else. Has anyone ever had a tent with a floor like this? Or do most tents have that tarp-like foor?

Most nice ones are like yours, it is waterproofed but it will wear off if you do not reseal it a lot. The best option is to make or buy a footprint. Actually a tarp will make things worse if it rains because water will tend to pool up between the tarp and the tent. The easy cheap way is just to cut a sheet of tyvek down to about 1/2 an inch shorter all around than the bottom of your tent. Duct tape the edges and use multiple layers of duct tape to make the spots to stake it down.
How well do cot deal with tent floors? I was going to get a cot because I heard it helps keep it a bit cooler, well as cool as TN is during june, but am worried the legs might poke the tent to much. Should I lay a tarp or footprint down inside also?

I have used a cot for 4 years now. No problems with the tent floor. As long as the caps are on the ends of the legs it doesn't punch through the floor of the tent.
