This is my second roo , I am looking to rent an RV for myself and 5 other friends. We have 3 couples going, and are probably going to plan on a 30' Class C , as this probably provides the best sleeping arrangement. We will likely be driving from Florida (Orlando/Tampa area) I wanted to see if anyone had any experiance with the RV renters in the area or even the national RV renters ( cruise america, etc) at bonnaroo.
I also wanted to see if anyone could give me some info on fuel consumption AT 'roo. We all died last year in the heat, and are going RV out of convenience. Can we run an AC at night / part of the day ? The best I can tell , the RVs hold about 55 gallons of fuel , I dont know how efficient the generators are with fuel running the 1-2 kw AC . Its all new to me. With 6 people would we run out of water with 6 people showering? ( less of an issue than AC , we are not opposed to using pay showers). Also , many of the RVs we are looking at have propane powered fridges. With a 10-18 gallon propane tank, can we keep a fridge cold for 4-5 days?
Welcome to the board. Please read through my "Gene's FAQ on bringing a RV to Bonnaroo" Link Here
You should be able to find most of the answers to your questions.
After you read through and you still have some more please feel free to ask.
Three couples are going to be tight and I think you will wind up renting in the area where you live, I'm sure most of the rentals are rented the closer you get to Tennessee.
I live in St Petersburg, and last year we took a Class A RV. There were 4 of us(all male), and we slept pretty comfortable/ You'll want to bring a lot of pillows or even an air mattress as the table and or couch are not that easy to sleep on.
We actually picked it up in Orlando for $1300. Add in you tax and insurance which is about $250. So $1550 total plus gas which ended up being $600.Total $2150 or so. RVs-of Orlando, they seemed fair. I'd recommend them, but look around for private rentals. You can find nice ones for cheap.
Went in with about 3/4 of a tank (60 gallons??), but i brought 25 gallons of gas. It was too much I think i used 10. The guy we rented from said it was a half gallon an hour on the generator, if I remember correctly. We used around 70 hours of generator time. Dont worry about propane you wont use it all. Almost impossible, if the tank is full.
With water you see a lot of people running out quickly. Be smart! Don't use your tanks or water until you get in the festival. You don't want to fill up that black water tank too early. Take "navy showers" to conserve water. They have people on site to refill and dump you, i don't know the cost, but it seemed like they were hard to find early in the weekend.
Overall I highly recommend it. We felt the RV allowed us to take quick naps, get back to shows, and see more shows overall. We were able to come back at sunrise and sleep 8 hours if you want to. It paid for itself many times over IMO. Doing the same this year but found one in St pete (private rental).
Bug512, thanks so much for that post. That cover 99% of what I wanted to know. I think we are getting a class c, thats supposed to sleep 7 or 8 , so I figured 6 would be tight but comfortable. We are all pretty good friends, and realize privacy will be sacraficed a bit. I figure two people can sleep in the bed over the cab, two people can sleep in the bedroom in the back, and two can sleep on one of the pull outs in the kitchen/living room/whatever. I think we were going to use public showers/toilets the first day or two as to not deplete our water. On anothe rnote, Bofadz, can you suggest a way to find private renters? My only concern is that if I rent from a private place, if it breaks down , Im pretty much F'ed whereas I may have some recouse with an actual shop. Also, this is a pretty dumb question, but whats the speaker situation for an RV. I wanted to have one person designated playing tunes while we drive. Are there usually AUX inputs so I can pump tunes through the whole thing or is that wishful thinking.
We used cruise america last year from New England. Class C. The unit was clean and did the job, however it was an older RV. The only real issue we had with its age was we had to duck tape all of the cabinets closed while we were moving or listen to them slam open and closed for 1000 miles.
To answer the important question : ), the unit we had did have speakers throughout. We also had one person assigned to making sure the Ipod was rocking the Bonnaroo play list the whole time. Used the ciggy lighter ipod adapter that utilizes the unused radio stations. Worked fine.
I agree with Bug about the private rentals. Have not gone that route.. read horror stories about last minute cancels and folks being up Shts creek. Google RV Rental Complaints. This year we wanted to get an RV closer to Tn to lower the fuel cost. Nothing available in TN. Got educated that most folks that rent in TN for Roo book for next year when they drop off. We'll be picking up the RV in KY this year, from a dealer, BBB accredited etc. Do your homework on the company you use before you leave. Also plan on a stop at Wally World after you get the RV to fill in any blanks that you notice after you've 'moved' in.
IMO RV is absolutely worth it. We are a group of 7 and have found little issue because we tend to break out by 2's and are on different schedules. As mentioned above, use it for the cool/sleep, food prep. Go easy on the water use.
I should have been more specific. I mean local dealer.
Pretty much not Cruise America or El Monte. I have used both at different festivals and while they never broke down. I found the RV to be older or more run down.
My point is for the money you can get a nicer rental from a local dealer.
Anyone have experiance with El Monte? I saw some RV's on their site I was interested in. Reputable?
Google them and add 'complaints' to the search. As I recall there were plenty to read. Cruise America in nashville just had a 25' open up. (Forgot i had been added to the wait list, fourth i think. Declined because we are going with a dealer that rents vs. the big chains.) If no one bites from the wait list, it might be available.
