I'm a vet from 2005-2007, so I know my way around the farm, but this year I'll be flying in from NYC with my wife who's never been. Anyone have experience flying in/out where packing properly is an issue. Tent only? Tent city?

I flew in last year for the first time after driving down previously. I'm from Toronto but we flew out of Buffalo to Atlanta and then rented a car and drove up.
The drive from Atlanta was easy (and we were headed out of the airport into downtown at morning rush hour) and it only took a couple of hours to get close to the Farm. It was only the ridiculous highway line that caused issue.
As for packing, I checked my tent (which I jammed with a few other items until it was at weight restriction capacity) and then brought a gym bag sized carry on with clothes, inflatable mattress, etc. Now, I opted to use a rolled up hoodie as a pillow and skimped on some things but I managed fine.
My buddy loaded a huge duffel bag with all of his stuff plus some of mine and checked that and then also had a gym bag for a carry on.
If you think about what you definitely need to survive the weekend and then add some comfort items to that list you should work around making a plan for that. Just look into whatever size and weight restrictions you may be dealing with as far as the airline is concerned and you should be fine.
You can always pick up whatever small things you need as well as booze, snacks, energy drinks, small camping items, etc along the way once you land and get your rental car going. I will say that you may have to abandon some of the extra cool things for camp (flags/pink flamingos/whatnot) as well as a fully stocked cooler (though I never find I have much use or time for food and drink at camp). That being said, we bought a couple of cheap chairs at Walmart for resting up at the start and end of the day and then just donated these to our friendly neighbors Sunday afternoon.
Bottom line, if you do your prep you should have no issue. Hope this helps.

Well still, if you each have a carry on and then check a monster sized duffel (hockey bag) with your tent/pillows/air mattress you should be fine. It just means skimping out on a few luxuries or novelty items.
We are flying down from Calgary and plan on taking all necessities with us, tents, tarps, clothes, $$, flags and then we are stopping at a walmart that is really close to BNA (Nashville airport) for anything else--beer, tobacco, chairs ect. Anthing left over on sunday will be donated to our closest accepting neighbors!

Good news is the wookies emerge on Monday morning and collect anything left behind - so your leftovers will be appreciated. Also, there are always a few wooks collecting cans so they can afford a ride back to wherever they come from - so leave your empties, too. Where DO they come from anyway?
