I know there's a fair amount of hate for WSP on here, but I'm pretty confident they'll be in the mix in 2011.
Its their last year, and they were a staple of early roos. I expect them to close the fest on Sunday.
I agree that it is very likely that WSP is back this year. I'm not really enthused about the notion but it seems inevitable. After being an almost annual presence they've been absent for two years and they are one of the cornerstones of the festival.
I don't know that they'll headline, though. I could see them as a Which late night opposite Daft Punk or as the first ever Thursday headliner (though the later scenario is pretty unlikely). In such a pivotal and buzzed about year, I just think that the festival will find a different way to use them in a non-headlining role that allows the band to save face.

Late Night Widespread Panic or Thursday Headliner both seem like great ideas to avoid giving up a HL spot for them. It's not like they hurt the lineup either, because i doubt they cost much money to book, especially with their history with the festival.
I'm sure they'd love to jump onstage Thursday night for a set. And Daft Punk/Widespread Panic seems like a logical split if you're going to do two big LateNight Acts at once (seems unlikely)
Of course, just by bringing that up as a theory you've already guaranteed the inevitable argument on who would play the What/Which

Certainly a possibility. They would make sense as a response to Coachella booking The Stones.
I don't think they are the most likely, and i know some people would be disappointed because they're clearly not what they used to be. Obviously there are bands I'd rather see in the top spot, but i would enjoy getting to see a legendary act like The Who as long as the rest of the top lines was good. Something along the lines of:
The Who - REM - Neil Young - Daft Punk - Arcade Fire - My Morning Jacket - Ryan Adams - The Roots
Or
The Who - Gorillaz - Furthur - Buffalo Springfield - Arcade Fire - My Morning Jacket - etc

2. I would really contend beyond complete sharing of the exact same headliners, Coachella and Bonnaroo really are not concerned about competing for the same crowds. They rarely have ever shared headliners in the same year, are literally thousands of miles apart, happen months apart, and really two completely different festivals entirely.

I think that there's a pretty healthy competition between the two. First, a portion of their fan bases choose between going to one or the other. I think that's reflected in the conversations here at inforoo. Second, there is clearly a game of one-upmanship that goes on. That's why most of Coachella's announcements are met within a few days by a Bonnaroo announcement meant to steal their wind.
I guess we don't have a thread for potentially eliminated artists yet....
Though they were apparently nobody's forecasted headliner, Coldplay is pretty much out. They're headlining Pinkpop the same weekend. (And, yes, I know Jay Z did the Isle of Wight to Bonnaroo trip last year but it does make it much more unlikely.)

Yeah , I think an eliminated artists thread wouldn't be a bad idea. I'll make it if no one with more organization does so while I'm out of the house and trapped within the confines of my iPhone app.

Yes, they certainly complete to some degree, but the crowds and line ups they attract and book are completely different. Coachella has little to no jam, where jam has always been some draw, if not a large draw for bonnaroo.
Regarding the the activity on inforoo, the coachella 2011 thread is at 2 pages and coachella happens two months sooner than bonnaroo. It does not appear a large amount of people are debating the two on inforoo.

No thanks... I'll pass on getting half of The Who as a headliner. They really shouldn't even tour as The Who. You can't claim to be the same band without Keith Moon and John Entwhistle.

Two big late night acts at once seems unlikely? You didn't go to Roo last year did you?
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

I don't think there has ever been 2 late night acts at the same time that are as big as Daft Punk and Panic, that would have to be What Stage and Which Stage simultaneously.

I forgot about that. I guess it still counts even though it wasn't originally planned like that and they didn't play simultaneously.
My statement was based on the comment that it was unlikely that there would be a late night What vs. Which scenario, which I still don't think has happened.
What about The Who? There are strong rumors that they'll be playing Hard Rock Calling in UK (end of June) and a few festivals in July.
If that will happen I can see them as one of the headliners for Bonnaroo.
Man, I wish I was alive to go to Woodstock..how about the Who late night set @ 5am...just as the night is winding down....ladies and gentlemen...The Who!!! fukin 5am start time, awesome!
At 5am on Sunday just before the Jefferson Airplane took the Woodstock stage, the rock outfit The Who played their rock opera titled "Tommy". The story of a deaf, dumb, and blind boy who is cured of his ailments and gains stardom became a legendary performance. Although not an apex performance in the Who's career, Woodstock helped solidify the band's place in rock history. 1. Heaven And Hell 2. I Can't Explain 3. It's A Boy 4. 1921 5. Amazing Journey 6. Sparks 7. Eyesight To The Blind 8. Christmas 9. Acid Queen 10. Pinball Wizard 11. (Abbie Hoffmann Incident) 12. Do You Think It's Alright? 13. Fiddle About 14. There's A Doctor I've Found 15. Go To The Mirror Boy 16. Smash The Mirror 17. I'm Free 18. Tommy's Holiday Camp 19. We're Not Gonna Take It 20. See Me Feel Me 21. Summertime Blues 22. Shakin' All Over 23. My Generation 24. Naked Eye
