But it doesn't really seem to be a bad idea just little impracticable for the cost of it's filling and the amount it can hold versus space taken up in a cooler. I'd rather get more canned beer instead. Also in a state like Maryland where it must be filled up at a microbrewery and not a tap house makes the whole idea a pain.

Yeah, I agree. Most growlers are like $5 for the glass. Fitty is pretty pricey. It is double walled vacuum sealed or something, so it's supposed to keep cold things cold, hot things hot. Also, how do you know when the damn thing is full? Hopefully the bartender is paying attention and doesn't give you 14 ounces worth of foam, which then does turn to beer, but then everything is sloshing around and not good for the beer.
We picked up the 65 quart extreme wheeled cooler from sears (on the discount supplies thread), and it's way too frickin' huge for two people. We'd have no problems fitting it in there. Also, being in NY, every bar fills up growlers, which is nice. Also, draught beer is better than a lot of canned beer I've had. And yep, I've had many cans of craft beer.
Long story short, yes, maybe somewhat impractical, but if somebody really wanted to bring in a growler of beer (and keep it in decent condition), they now could.
Yeah, pretty much. But it is on par with the rest of Hydro Flask's pricing for their other bottles. I think since it's got the double wall vacuum insulation, they think they can command that price. If I get a huge surplus of cash, I could see splurging. That is not in the foreseeable future for me, however.

Really?! I have a lot of great canned beers , equal to many on tap. Now i am not saying that canned is better but to claim that a draught beer is always better isn't really true.

I didn't say it was always better. I said draught is better than a lot of canned beer I've had. I think canned beer kicks bottled in the head, in terms of portability, as well as the other benefits of can vs bottle. And yes, I've had some great beers in the can, and wish more breweries would move to cans.
I've gotten old cans of many beers, and the trouble with them is the same trouble I have with bottles. Nobody ever dates them! Oskar Blues does now, as well as Sly Fox, but I've had plenty that don't. Usually draught equates to some form of freshness, and even if a beer is not terribly fresh, it holds up better than a can of the same beer.
Not that I plan on bringing one such thing, but how many barrel aged imperial stouts do they can? None. Ten Fidy isn't barrel aged, but a rockin' impy stout nonetheless.
Any Double IPAs canned? Other than Surly Abrasive, which is only released in Dec-Jan, I don't know of any. Scotch ales? Nope.
Fifty is high I would have to see some reviews first. Also like you said, how do they know when it is full?
Exactly. The answer would be to fill it all the way to the top until you see liquid, not foam. That would leave pretty much no head space, which, in the event that you were shipping the growler (which I've done a fair amount of), once the beer warmed up at all it would/could expand and start leaking. I like about a cm of headspace at the top of my growlers--as long as it's CO2, not air.

Duh, I'm a fool. Oskar Blues has Gubna (dipa) and Gordon (more of an imperial red), got a cease and desist from Gordon Biersch, and renamed it G'Night. I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong again) that Gubna is year round, but it might be. G'Night is year round, but is has too much caramel malt sweetness that goes a little unchecked, IMO. Gubna is solid enough, though.
Also, they do brew a Scottish ale--Old Chub--and I even brought it last year. Its actually one of my favorites of the Scottish/Scotch ale style.
I managed to screw up just about everything I said. Anyways, I guess my point is that there are only what, like 297 different canned beers with 115 different breweries, according to craftcans.com. There's a lot more beer out there on draught than that, is all.
yeah, good call. That was my reference, as well, but I was on my phone spouting nonsense in a waiting room, and just got home to my computer.
Also have had gandhi-bot, but they don't date their cans. Had One Hit Wonder on tap a couple weeks ago, didn't realize they were canning it. Also didn't realize 21st Amendment was now canning their Hop Crisis. Same for Heady Topper--which is one amazing beer. Of all DIPAs listed on craft cans, that would be the one to get. I doubt they're stamping dates, either, and am sure their distro is just in VT.
