as far as going to walmart...coming from nashville down 24-e, is it best to wait and take exit 114 or is there a chance the exit will be closed? it looks like i could take an exit before bushy branch and drive through manchester but i'd rather be able to take the direct exit if possible. anyone have any experience with this? we'll probably hit manchester around 1-2am thursday.
I came in down 55 in 2004 with maybe two dozen cars ahead of me to turn left into the site (by the gas station); but we were held there for a couple of hours while traffic from Nashville was routed in, so no bonus there. The one good thing, as we eased past the Winery, was that they suddenly opened up the "back" entrance on Bushy Branch, which caused for a speedy entry, but a 45 minute walk from the furthest upper-right-hand reaches of the site (a field they aren't even using any more it was so remote). Gone VIP ever since.

I'd like to know this as well. We are staying at a hotel off of exit 114 on Wednesday night but coming up from the south.

It does seem crap that you pay more for VIP then have to wait another 12 hours before you can get at your campsite. How is the wait for VIP Thursday am?

From what I've heard, it's a breeze... no wait at all, really.
Ok, someone in the Camp Inforoo VIP thread said they called Bonnaroo and they confirmed VIP would open at 7pm on Wednesday. Lots of misinformation floating around....
Thats strange. Someone said the information that came with the VIP wristbands said it wouldn't be open till 8am. So did Gary Chardonnay. I wonder if the person they talked to just wasn't well informed?
i think i've talked myself into going in on wed night instead of thurs morning. does anyone know what the hike to centeroo is in BFE vs. Pod 6? I was around Pod 6 last year, and I know that is a pretty good hike.
VIP can enter Wed Night per a call from cneintn into Roo mgmt. So the flyer we got saying Thur morning was bogus.
The new Wed arrival time is really a big deal and it's hard to say how it will affect all kinds of things.
Well thats a gamechanger. Seems counterintuitive that Gary C. and the information that came with the tickets would say one thing, but management would say another over the phone. Personally I'd be more inclined to trust the official sources.

I did some more looking and Gary has said both Wed night and Thu morning. He has gotten pretty solid with the Thu morning recently. I wish for all the VIP people that they figure out what their answer is because getting two answers has got to be frustrating.
Hey guys I'm flying into Nashville and planning on taking the first shuttle into 'Roo on Thursday at 9AM (according to the Bonnaroo website)...with Tent Only opening up on Wednesday instead of Thursday this year I'm a little nervous about finding a spot. I've read they don't hold spots for shuttle people, so what on earth would happen if Tent Only filled up by then? I'm just struggling with how I'm going to pack everything, and now this?! Oi.

Don't stress too much. Nobody really knows how fast tent only will fill up this year. The wednesday night opening has really complicated things.
I would think/hope you'll still be able to find a spot in tent only. But if not then you'll wind up in the regular GA campgrounds with all the people camping next to their cars, which is not a big deal at all. Keep in mind if you're on the first shuttle, then that means there are still busloads of people coming to the farm after you in the same boat. Bonnaroo will not let all these people get shafted.
I'd say pack and plan on being in tent only. If for whatever reason you can't find a spot just walk a few feet away to the closest car camping "city block" and set up camp there.

Good points! I guess I'll just have to wait it out and see how things are when I get there. Should be interesting this year that's for sure! Thanks for the help!
I too would be interested in any information someone could provide about this?
We've had luck that way last year and will do it again.
I'll be coming from Bristol TN (NE corner of TN) via I-40 and will try the 55/McMinnville route. But then what? do I take 55 all the way to Manchester and get on New Bushy Branch there, close to the tollbooth? Or am I better off staying away from Manchester and taking Rock Rd/Wiser Rd/Ragsdale Rd to the eastern part of New Bushy Branch? I've seen how bad I-24 can get but would also hate to be stuck on a back road where there are no other options/turn-around room. Thanks for any help from the locals and/or veterans!

You will run into the line of cars waiting to get into Roo... there's no way you can miss it. You will have to get in line when some nice person lets you in front of them (or when the cops yell at people to let you in front of them).

I wouldn't rely on that. I asked Gary via twitter and he said if the info on our parking passes say Thursday morning, it will be Thursday morning.
Yeah, at this point I'm hoping they realize how ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS it is that I pay $1500 for tickets but GA gets to set up camp before me. I'm not competitive, it just makes no sense. I don't think they understand the concept of VIP.
I'm thinking maybe VIP early entrance is the years "secret" Gary may tell us Thur, BUT will be admitting Wed ? I'd love to arrive wed evening set-up camp & get a good nights rest before all the festivities start
I'm hearing mixed things that they tell you thurs 8am but some people (maybe even Gary said it somewhere) that you can go in wed night still...but I also read that in order for VIP to be let in, they want BFE full so that there isnt traffic in the opposite direction? Thats why BFE's always filled first? To let VIP in without traffic in both directions making it chaotic...

Well.... If the bathrooms and air conditioned tents are not set up yet, then I don't want to go in Wednesday night! That's what I paid $1400 for, not for Wednesday night admittance... ya know?
We also need to take into account that they probably won't have all of their volunteers there on Wednesday night. Since the VIP entrance doesn't get much of a line anyway, they probably want to get the GA people parked/searched/through first to lessen the wait time for them.
But ::GASP:: how DARE they let those GA people in Wednesday night instead of sitting in their cars for 10 hours on Thursday!?! It's a horrible thing to do, Bonnaroo. Just horrible. I mean, they're not paying customers like we are. /end sarcasm (and yes, I'm going VIP too)
Seriously folks, we'll be at Bonnaroo one way or another. Just relax!
"Will the new entrance times effect the traditional model of campsite placement?
Traditionally, those who come the earliest and enter camping on wednesday night have been placed in BFE. But how will the new entrance times affect this? With the gates opening Wednesday night, will the people that get there earliest still be placed farthest away, or will they be rewarded for getting there early?"
"Gary Chardonnay - Official Bonnaroo Staff (Official Rep) 10 days ago The campsite placement will be handled like it has in years past!"
