Hey guys im new here but i have a question that i need some help with before roo this year. Last year was my first roo, and needless to say it was awesome and i will be going back this year! i will hopefully have most of last years kinks worked out but one issue i really need to solve is foot pain! I wore a pair of old running shoes last year (i hate the feeling of dirty feet so i preferred sneakers), but every day without fail i would get terrible pain in my feet, in the heel mostly, from standing for so long and i would have to go sit down somewhere and miss out on parts of the show i was seeing. Has anyone experienced this and how have you dealt with it? I was thinking maybe get some insoles or something? I figured sneakers should be pretty good at preventing this kind of thing but i guess not. If anyone has a possible solution that would be much appreciated!
Insoles are a good idea. There are different kinds of support, so I would find one of those Dr. Scholl's machines that they have at drug stores and Walmarts and see which support they suggest. You really can't go wrong with the Dr. scholl's products.. Celebrity stylists are always talking about how red carpet heels are made wearable by them.

Let me give you some advice from an old gal. First, screw fashion. Buy a good pair of hiking boots - really good pair -- and they will keep your feet nice and cushioned. Buy some wool socks too. They are not scratchy at all and will help with sweat. Next, drag along a low beach chair and take in a few shows toward the back or side taking a load off your feet. You won't believe how many people will comment on how jealous they are that you have a chair. Finally, a bucket of water and a good feet soak at the end of the day is a great refresher. Throw in some peppermint essential oil and you'll thing you are in a spa - even through everyone around you stinks!
^LOL at the censor. That machine is cool, but those special insoles are not cheap!
Yep.. Expensive but totally worth it depending on what kind of pain you're in. I went from taking classes and swimming at Auburn's pool where I got awful plantars warts to working on a bridge as and inspector and had to walk all day long up and down the length of the bridge climbing up and over all kinds of rebar which was awful on my already tortured feet. I got some special insoles to put in my Redwings and it helped a lot. So if you are on your feet a lot or have more foot pain than the average person it's worth it to take care of your feet. And it's cheaper and almost as good as going to a doc for custom fit ones. But not everyone needs them of course.
Bring several different pairs of shoes. I wear Crocs during the day at Roo but usually switch to sneakers for LN. And when I'm at camp, I'll wear flip-flops or go barefoot.
Also, for whatever shoes you decide to wear at Roo, wear them around the house and out to do errands and stuff in the weeks leading up to Roo. That way your feet will be somewhat used to them (I actually try to walk a few miles in my Crocs each year).

What everybody else said!
And also... if its specifically heel pain, it could be plantar fasciitis. I get it every summer at some point. It may help to get a frozen water bottle (a round one), put it on the ground and roll your bare arch back and forth over it at the end of the day. You can also do this with a tennis ball but the frozen water will help with swelling. Also don't underestimate the value of stretching your arches, ankles, and calves before heading out in the morning, and you might take a preventative NSAID too.

I had the same thing happen at Glastonbury, it ended up being plantar fasciitis (fancy word for acute heel pain). I still had two weeks of vacation to survive after the festival and could hardly walk...and I didn't want to be traipsing around London in running shows (I'm vain as hell). I coped with a lot of wine, pain killers, and insoles in my boat shoes.
However, since then I have been really, really careful about my feet at festivals. I will not let that happen again, it totally ruined the shows for me. I wore Toms with both Dr. Scholls gel heel pads and regular full-foot bed gel insoles to Lollapalooza last year and I had no problems with my feet. I also suggest soaking them every night no matter if they hurt or not. If you are really worried getting a bottle of Absorbine linament (it's for horses, but I use it for myself as well), it smells pretty medicinal, but if you put it on during your foot soak it helps.

Also, take time to sit during the afternoon. It's hot as crap and the shows tend to less crowded, so you can still be near while sitting. A little rest throughout will help stave off the roo fatigue.
Ok thanks guys some really helpful stuff here. I think ill probably snag a pair of superfeet insoles or the special doctor scholls, and stretch and maybe pop an aleve before heading out in the morning. Hopefully it helps!!
A brand of veterinary liniment. It's kind of like icy-hot for horses I guess...It helps them cool down quickly, and helps sore or swollen joints and muscles. There is alcohol in it, so it helps the capillaries swell and gets circulation going.
