Ugh.. Just read this on the website.. No professional camera equipment. I don't know what it means. I just got a new toy.. A nikon d90. I'm in love. But.. I'm no professional, and I wouldn't even technically call this a professional camera, but I don't want them to tell me I can't go in with it. I was planning to bring it to take family photos and stuff because we are taking a two week trip from TX to TN. Any experience out there with this type of equipment?
Detachable lenses = Professional Camera as far as they are concerned. That being said if you get it in nobody will take it away. Just be prepared to maybe have to take it back to camp.
We brought in our EOS Rebel with an additional lens and had no problems. We only use the built-in flash but they didn't give us an shit about the extra lens or anything. Don't know if we were lucky but we plan to do it again. It seems to go against what they say but maybe it's one of those "relaxed" rules?
Yeah.. The rule says no professional. Not "no semi pro".. I think the intent is no cameras with separate lenses, but that is not what the rule says. It also say cameras without separate lenses are allowed, but does not say cameras with separate lenses are not allowed.. So after working in construction for the state.. I would pull out my best "contractor argument" and argue that technicality. It's just that home is almost 20 hrs away so I can't take it home if they bust me for it.
The worst that will happen is that you won't find a line into Centeroo where security will let you in with it and you'll have to go back and lock it up in your vehicle. You won't get turned away at the gate. We never had to find another line because we got turned away and we brought it to Centeroo every day.
this is good news to my ears, but i have a nikon d7000 that can let you change lenses. im definitely gonna use it at the campsite and on the road, but not sure if i wanna risk it into Centeroo. i wonder if being a volunteer can help me get in with less hassle, lol...or maybe use that secret entrance by the What stage
i dunno if it's just volunteers/vip but next to vip there's an entrance to the what stage area... not open 24/7 but noon-midnight or something. hopefully someone that has used it can maybe chime in. i saw volunteers talk about using it in the volunteering thread a a few months ago. travelinbeat, i think, even used it and created a map of the path to get there and whatnot.
FWIW, security told a girl that was standing next to me that she had to put her camera up during DMB last year. It was a point and shoot that you could attach DSLR lenses to, I havent ever seen anything like it. But yeah, they just told her, no attachable lenses, and she put it up, no issues.

My finance is a photographer and we've brought in her Nikon D-40X for a few years with a few lenses, and never had a problem. With that said, we did have to worry about it getting f***ed up, dropped, stepped on etc.
I think I ended up paying $250 or so for it. No detachable lenses, however the lens it has goes up to 30X. It has all the standard point and shoot stuff (like all the automatic shutter speed and stuff for those of us who are not photographers) and it also was the only camera in that price range I found that also has a full manual mode just like a regular DSLR.
That way if something happens to this camera were only out $250 and not $1500+!
*shrugs* not everyone knows of it though and there've been issues with late opening times, etc. I heard of there not being security there but who knows. I'd be surprised if no security, especially if they read these forums and whatnot and see anyone write that.

How are the photos from this camera? I've been looking at a DSLR but dont want to be stressed about taking it to Roo or other concerts (if I can even get it in to them). This price range works well for me........
I havent had any issues with my Olympus PEN cameras with multiple lenses. I have had them take it out and look at it and put it back no questions asked.

I saw a guy walk right through pretty easily with a DSLR and a kit lens. The guy checking him asked his supervisor, "Is this okay?" and the supervisor said, "Yea, but if the lens is any bigger send them back."
I'm going to bring my T2i this year with the kit lens and my 50mm 1.8.
I'm doing the flying-shuttle-tent only, this year so I am going to get a locker just in case... if they do lockers again... IDK.
If you're just trying to get in with a 50mm lens, chances are you're gonna be ok. Security looked right over mine every time I went through. People I talked to with stuff much bigger had to sneak 'em in.
