i've been dragging an aerobed with me the last few times i've been camping but i want to try a cot this year. i'm 6'5" though and i need to be comfortable. anyone have any suggestions? would like to keep the price down as this is an unexpected expense now.
i'm a side sleeper.. wondering if this will be uncomfortable for me
also it looks like most of the good cots have the "X" setup and i'm worried about messing up the floor of my tent. any problems with this from people?
I used a cot a couple years and it's definitely cooler due to the airflow beneath you. I also found it very comfortable. I just slept outdoors under the canopy so I have no idea about the tent floor. But so many people used these I cannot imagine it is a problem.
I guess I should mention I use an old US Army cot but doubt that makes a lot of difference unless you're using a very cheap one.

I'm doing a cot this year too, planning to sleep under the ez up - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029AAUUY - that one's not long enough for you, though. You may be forced into a higher price range b/c you need a longer cot.
i bought that byer cot from REI.... just managed to get in under the window for the memorial day sale.. saved 20% and got free shipping with the membership. came out to 80 bucks. i can live with that. only problem is its coming monday... and if it gets delayed any more then that i'm in some trouble

If you have an REI store nearby, you can call and ask if they have it in stock... Worst case scenario you can buy one in store and take back the one that was shipped to you for a full price return. They may even be able to cancel the online shipment. Their customer service is EXCEEDINGLY helpful.
there's no REI in NY.... dont' really have the time to drive to jersey and get it. i should be ok. maybe if there's a shipping issue they will let me pick it up at a store on the way to roo.
I am 6'3" and the REI Comfort Cot fits me with room to spare. It's SUPER comfy and perfect for side sleepers because it has a little "give" in it thanks to the bungee cord suspension. It's expensive ($140) but I think REI might have 20% off sale right now.
we have a cot in our posse and theres nothing better then crawling out of the tent when it's a billion degrees in the morning and getting up on the cot under the shade and sleeping an extra hour!
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
I've got one of the REI comfort cots, I'll be trying it out for the first time this year. I set it up in my living room and it seems like it'll be really comfortable. I'm 6'3" and its plenty long.
I haven't used it yet, but have set it up twice and it's super easy and I LOVE that it folds up just like a camp chair. It's really sturdy - you can sit on the end of it without it tipping over. And it's big. I'm only 5'5", but there were many inches both above and below me, as well as on either side.
I'm jealous of the big cots.. I'm a 5'10 and all legs, and I feel like my cot is too small. I'm a side sleeper and it doesn't give me enough leg room or give, but the cots we have were free to us, so I can't see spending more on them. That may be what I ask for for Christmas or something.. Or gift cards from everyone for amazon or rei. I've got a back problem from lifting heavy stuff in construction, so I need a good night's sleep for my back at these things.
I bought two and also got fitting self-inflating mats for both. I ordered a ALPS Mountaineering TITAN XL cot off steepandcheap.com and got a STOIC air pad for it of steepandcheap as well. I ordered The LuxuryLite off luxurylite.com... It's damn expensive but very comfy and super lite weighing in at about 2lbs vs the 17lbs TITAN. Both cots are very comfortable and about as reliable as you can get.
They USED to have a xl version as well, for taller people, but I couldn't find it in stock online.
Thanks for this. Just ordered 2 form Amazon for me and my friend
I really wanted to go the cot route this year too... saw this post & ordered one based on the recommendations... it arrived this evening and I must say it is AWESOME!!!!
It does take a little muscle to get the legs in, but it comes with a grippy thing to help... I'm 5'3 & there's lots of room for me and it's quite comfy.. i set up the little tent I usually take this evening since I was a little concerned it wouldn't fit & it fit perfect! It opened the tent up & gave me so much more room... my youngest loved it so much he's camping outside tonight in it ;D
got my easy cot and its amazing. plenty long and wide for me. i'm not crazy about the fact that it doesnt lock the legs so it can be kind of tricky to flip over in a cramped space but once its up its comfortable. may sleep on it tonight just for the hell of it
