I've just started wearing contacts within the last year and I'm wondering how feasible it is to wear them at roo. Anyone have any trouble? I'll bring glasses as a back up, of course, but it would sure be nice to be able to wear contacts and all the advantages that come with them.
No problem - just bring a lot of solution and eye drops because it can be very dry and dusty. I have been 5 times and wear nothing but contacts - all the time!

i have never had any real problems with mine - i just carry drops with me everywhere (either theratears regular or for contacts...or if your paranoid like me, both!) and then i take them out every night, cleaning well with solution. and usually....USUALLY i can remember to take mine out no matter how, ahem, late it is. also bring an extra pair just in case one rips or falls out.

I've had varying experiences with mine - I don't remember having ANY problems in 2007 (which is actually quite surprising considering the dust...) but I think it was 2009 they were driving me crazy....they kept getting all hazy, was really not helping my eyesight. So definitely bring glasses just in case the contacts don't work out. When they got all hazy it was awful because I can't exactly clean 'em while I'm at a show, and even if I wanted to go back to the tent, I'm still working with hands that aren't perfectly clean.
But in general they've been fine for me. Assuming you replace yours every two weeks or something, try to make sure you're working with a fairly fresh pair for Bonnaroo. You'll probably have them in for long hours, or at least you'll be awake for long hours, so your eyes will be tired and if your lenses are getting old it'll be even worse.

I always wear mine to festivals and don't have a problem. Since I switched brands I can't wear them overnight anymore, but I just make sure I have baby wipes to clean my hands before I take them out or put them in and it isn't an issue.

My eyes are one of my biggest worries. This thread is somewhat reassuring, but I'm just nervous about having them in for long periods of times (12pm til possibly 5am) and forgetting to take them out all together. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes!

Never had any issues, even the year when it was really dusty. I usually even sleep in them at Roo and take them out and clean them every morning. Always carry eye drops with you though.
I'm a glasses every day except for sporting events guy, so last year (first roo) I wore glasses the entire time. My eyes were fine, but I constantly wished that I had sunglasses.
This year I plan on wearing contacts and sunglasses by day (carrying visine for contacts at all times) and then switching to glasses at night to rest my eyes since they are not used to contacts for long periods.
So, basically, I can't really help you in the advice area, but I can tell you that you won't be alone in trying to figure it out. just be prepared with glasses, solution, eye drops (make sure they dont have a warning on the back that says remove contacts before use), and even a pair of fresh, new backup contacts if you have them wouldn't hurt.
Thanks guys! I hope it works out. I really love having contacts. I wear monthly lenses and I'll be approaching change day as we approach roo, but I already have an extra pair packed in my toiletries bag. Since work 12 hour shifts, I've been known to keep them in for 15-16 hours + with little problems. I can't sleep in them though... toric lenses, they move around and get all irritated.
I wear glasses and have since I was a small child. Tried contacts a few times, but couldnt stand em. I am blind without my glasses. Last few years, I would wear sunglasses, but not be able to see much.
this year, at the reccomendation from a few friends, I went to Zenni optical online...and holy crap. you just put your prescription numbers in, and choose what you want. I basically now have a FANTASTIC pair of aviator sunglasses (they have hundreds of styles) that are my prescription, and cost me a total of about 17 dollars after shipping.
Problem is thaey take a few weeks to ship, so kinda useless for this festival..but good for future usage and other shows. I jsut like now having a cheap pair of sunglasses that are sturdy and look great that I wear outside, driving, etc. I am going to order a few more since it is so cheap, and I wont worry about destorying them like I would my normal glasses.

I haven't had any issues before. In the real world I take mine out every night, but at Roo most of the time I leave them in, for whatever reason, although I plan on taking them out. Just bring plenty of solution, eye drops, and glasses or an extra pair, just in case.
I ended up just using my glasses the whole time. The dust was so terrible. My extra set of contacts and solution was stolen along with my whole duffle bag Monday morning. So it's a good thing I didn't have them in and develop a problem. I was lucky to get my new glasses in time for Roo though. We picked them up Wednesday morning before hitting the road. My old glasses had pressure cracks in the lenses and the frames were heavy as fuck. Non-eco friendly, but effective disposable lens cleaners took care of the rest. Yay for being able to see!
I've been wearing contacts for 20 yrs now and I have the daily wear (take out at night). If I have them in too long my eyes start to really hurt so I wasn't sure what to do about the late nights. I ended up just leaving my glasses on a big chunk of the day until we left camp to head in which was anywhere from 3pm-5pm.
I surprisingly didn't have any issues with the dust. I made sure to wear my sunglasses though constantly so I'm sure that helped. There was only one time I remember them hurting and it was really late at night and my eyes just felt so tired.
I forgot to bring my spare pair of glasses with me, and my good pair broke on Friday night (just as I took them off for bed luckily). They've been repaired four times now with super glue, so I knew it was coming. Finishing the weekend without good vision was a pain, but I only have my own butt to kick. The dust was terrible, but I chose a pair of sunglasses that completely covered my eyes. The frames touched eyebrow to cheek and almost back to my temples. Not only did I get better sun protection, but I think the dust was kept out well too.

Same here. This was the first Roo I wore my contacts every day, all day (daylight hours). I have the 30 day disposable and my aviator style shades seemed to do really well on keeping dirt and dust out of my eyes.
