Jimmy is cool and fun. By no means is he going to receive critical acclaim for his music. He music embodies a lifestyle that anyone who fantasizes about drunken debauchery in tropical paradises can relate to. He is also a good storyteller. Sometimes I'm just in a Jimmy Buffett kind of mood. His set in 09 is one of my all time Bonnaroo highlights and the perfect Saturday morning bloody mary to blast the party off again. The crowd wore the biggest smiles for the entire show.
A daytime set fits him better but would he "headline"? I don't know, but I wouldn't dismiss it off hand. He just sold out 19,000 seats in my town at $140 a pop.
Sometimes its good to have music that you love but shouldn't.
haha inforoo hasnt changed. im just busting your alls balls, except for Juggernaut biznatch lol, to used to pt
Welcome back.....stick around.
You think Phish will get two shows again?
I would say so. I dont think Phish would really play without a 2 night run. Also they know just one Phish show wont really attract phans, cuz they will jus skip roo and go to next stop on tour.

On one hand I agree with this logic, but on the other they have played some one-off festivals in the past (ACL and Outside Lands, if I'm not mistaken).

Congratulations, that was almost English. Why are all the Phish fans on this board incapable of taking ten extra seconds when putting up a post to make sure that its at the very least readable, if not grammatically correct?
Hey, I've been attending Phish shows for over a decade, I'm capable of constructing grammatically correct sentences, even if they're absolute gibberish in terms of content.
Red Hot Chili Peppers play Friday Night on What something like 9-11, then Phish comes on at Midnight and plays til 3am. Radiohead plays the 9:30-Midnight slot on What Saturday night Phish will play sunday night, which means I get to leave early again.
I also think we are going to get atleast one more big name, I'm fairly confident in this.
Also, here is something to chew on, there are, essentially, 11 high profile slots on the bonnaroo lineup. They are:
BTW, the layout is Year - Artist - Where they were on the lineup.
Friday Night Headliner 2011 - Arcade Fire - 2nd 2010 - Kings of Leon - 2nd 2009 - Beastie Boys - 3rd 2008 - Metallica - 2nd
Saturday Night Headliner 2011 - Eminem - 1st 2010 - Stevie Wonder - 3rd 2009 - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - 1st 2008 - Pearl Jam - 1st
Sunday Night Headliner 2011 - Widespread Panic - 3rd 2010 - Dave Matthews Band - 1st 2009 - Phish - 2nd 2008 - Widespread Panic - 4th
---------------------

Saturday PreHeadliner 2011 - The Black Keys - 4th 2010 - The Dead Weather - 7th 2009 - Wilco - 6th 2008 - Jack Johnson - 3rd

Saturday Which Closer 2011 - Buffalo Springfield - 5th 2010 - Weezer - 7th 2009 - The Mars Volta - 14th 2008 - ??? (this was originally suppose to be Kanye West, anyone remember who played?)

--------------------
Friday Stage Late Night 2011 - Lil Wayne - 7th 2010 - The Flaming Lips - 8th 2009 - Phish - 2nd 2008 - My Morning Jacket - 9th
Saturday Stage Late Night 2011 - String Cheese Incident - 8th 2010 - Jay-Z - 4th 2009 - Nine Inch Nails - 4th 2008 - Kanye West / Phil Lesh and Friends - 8th (kanye 5th)
Anybody want to average each slots bill placement? Minus Zac Brown, someone must have fell through at the last minute for that to happen
I almost did that, but I realized that I probably shouldn't have counted Comedians if I did that, plus the whole Kanye situation screws this up. Plus, I got shit to do and I have to get back to work.
it's amazing how a day after being told of the booking of Radiohead, we now need another big name to headline along with the three revealed by insider. it's much better to be cautiously pessimistic in this situation, i think.
He was a guest for a noon set (Ilo & and the Coral Reefer Allstars).
Actually he played the whole set because Ilo was having immigration issues. Also, yes if Buffett was booked with the Coral Reefers he would be a headliner. As it stands that was still the biggest crowd I have ever seen at the Which.
You always say that, but it really wasn't. I walked over there a good 25-30 minutes late and walked right up to the soundboard without any problems. It was crowded for an opening which stage act, but no way was it the biggest which stage crowd ever.

I felt like Mumford was bigger crowd than Buffett as well. Buffett I could still walk through the crowd on the outskirts while Mumford pushed me so far back. I ended up hanging out in a tent behind porta potties that was playing the Mumford show on TV.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

I walked out of the sonic cafe when they came on and walked, with out stepping on toes, to the right of the sound board with out much trouble. Why are we arguing which was more crowded? Can't we all just agree to hope that Jimmy Buffet is busy pickling his liver in a coastal city the weekend of bonnaroo?

Can anyone remind me if my memory is correct? I seem to remember that in the past, insider has given us the HL and What Pre-HL slots for each day (sometimes leaving one out and giving us 5), even if they weren't the top 6 acts in general.

Also, comparing biggest Which Stage acts directly is misleading. What was impressive about Mumford was that there were a ton of other big acts playing simultaneously. Buffalo Springfield was unopposed. Jimmy Buffet was at noon, so no other huge acts were playing. Conflicts play into this analysis a lot.

It's always different each year.
In 2009 she gave us Phish/Beasties/Bruce
In 2010 she gave us KOL, DMB, Jay-Z, Stevie, and Tenacious D
In 2011 she gave us Black Keys > Rap Headliner, MMJ & Arcade Fire (no clue about scheduling), and Robert Plant > Widespread Panic.
In 2010 she considered there to be 4 "headliners" and last year she considered there to be 6 "headliners". In 2009 she didn't use the term "headliner" but just confirmed to us the 3 names and when they'd play.

Thanks. I was a lurker until last year's I think, so I wasn't nearly as involved in the boards. Did she tell us that Phish was doing 2 shows?
Good point. You can buy single day tickets to those fests. I'll admit, I don't follow Phish that much, so I don't know all of their patterns. I just doubt that Phish would only play onee show at Roo.,

I think last year she also told us MMJ and Arcade Fire would play one after the other if my memory serves me right

In highschool, my best friend's dad, who is an alcohol distributor, got free tickets to a Jimmy Buffet show in Atlanta. We both went, despite not knowing more than 2 or 3 songs, and had an absolute blast. It was basically an all-day party leading up to the show, which was a lot of fun too. Lots of alcohol and beach balls and drunk/hot college girls and drunk/hilarious middle-agers, all set to Jimmy Buffett music. Still look back on it as a great time. That said, it would seem to work much better at Hangout than Bonnaroo.
Also, we got to go into the VIP Lounge Pre-Party and met Urban Meyer.
No, the Buffett show wasn't that crowded. One reason you can't compare crowd sizes is because Jimmy wasn't billed that year at all. He wasn't even on the lineup spreadsheet. The parrothead demographic didn't really have the opportunity to buy tickets. Also, centroo is always pretty empty for the opening afternoon shows. Jimmy was more like a bonus show, one that was more satisfying than a headlining set could ever be.
Whatever, Jimmy Buffett will probably never headline, but I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility.
