Today I was out and about when I decided to go for a run. My feet began to hurt, so I took off my shoes and finished up barefoot. Bad choice. Now I have blisters on the bottom of my toes.. I've been walking on my heels since it happened because they're so painful. I could really use some advice on how to get them to heal as soon as possible and reassurance that my feet will be ok in time for Roo. Thank you!
(wasn't sure which forum to post this under, so feel free to move it if you don't feel that it fits.)
I was reading about getting blisters at 'Roo elsewhere on the site, and several mentioned something called Moleskin. So I bought some to bring with me, and I think the package says it's medicated and will help your blisters heal faster. May want to check it out. Good luck!

Target makes these rubber medicated band aids that help your blisters. I used them at last year's 'roo and they work wonders. I am sure Johnson & Johnson make the same thing, but I've only used the Target brand.
Blah.. should I pop them before putting anything on them?
I'm not an RN (though we have many of those around here) but I always pop mine and then cover it in neosporin and keep a band-aid on it. I change the band-aid daily, but it usually hurts for a few days.
I would soak your feet in Epsom salt and warm water first, for about 20 minutes, before popping them.

bingo
Pick up a kit and start using it ASAP, moleskin works wonders on blisters and callas's. If the blisters have peeled open, be sure to cover them with some medication, Neosporin and good bandaids. Keep them clean and dry. Do not rip off the extra skin, let it heal and fall off itself.
Wear good, thick socks with shoes until they heal.
DO NOT POP THEM. I repeat, do NOT pop them. If they pop on their own, fine- however, you have NO idea how susceptible they will be to infection and bacteria-
keep them covered. Keep a very light layer of neosporin or salve. Get a blister kit. Just please, as someone who used to be in the medical field and has seen some things...please don't pop them.

Haha alright, I understand they'd be more prone to infection if I popped them, but would popping them just to drain the fluids make them heal faster by any chance? This is such a gross conversation lol.

No, I'm sorry to say It will take a bit of time no matter what, but they won't heal any faster if you pop them.

I'm definitely not a nurse, but I will share what happened to me. At Roo 2008 I got a horrible, giant blister. I tried not walking on it and that just made it harder on the rest of my body as I hobbled around.
I was much more comfortable after I popped it, cleaned it, and wrapped it up well. At least I could walk normally after that. I don't know your situation, but I would imagine it would be hard to walk around on your heels until Roo starts and you might end up hurting something else like your hips or knees from walking funny.

Once at home it's important to clean your blisters with anti-bacterial soap and to LET THEM BREATHE without bandages on them... Before you go to bed is usually a good time to do this. Try hard not to walk on them without bandages as they are prone to infection. Clean them multiple times per day, and use moleskin/bandaids and neosporin during daytime walking around.
Ditto on not popping them on purpose. They will heal faster if you aren't fighting off an infection, and that layer of skin helps protect them. However, if it is impractical to let them heal without draining them then the best way to do it is to clean the blistered area, sterilize a needle and insert it at the base of the blisters and allow them to drain. You don't want to remove any of the extra skin if you can help it, and draining them in this fashion allows the most protection from infection. Once you have cleaned them and drained them (if applicable) you should cover them. My favorite covers are the Johnson and Johnson (or target) brand blister covers. They make different sizes, so make sure you pick one large enough that you aren't irritating any healing skin. These stay on longer than moleskin from my experience, though I suppose this may be different for everyone. After a while you can use the moleskin in a sort of doughnut shape around the blister(s) and let the healing areas breathe while still providing a cushion. There is another product out there called blister plasters that I'm not familiar with...
And like others said, keeping them clean and letting them breathe is important in the healing process.
I'm guessing that they won't be healed by bonnaroo, so I would plan on closed toe shoes.. Maybe even water proof them if possible, and use moleskin in a doughnut shape or the blister bandages to protect them and prevent them from getting worse. The last thing you want is mud and hippie juice getting into an open wound. Eeeew. And if it is really muddy then stick to the bandaid blister things because they provide a very water proof barrier. If it isn't too muddy, the bandaid blister things could even be used in lieu of closed toe shoes depending on the severity and location of the blisters. And if they get red, have a lot of puss or smell funny see a doctor because they are probably infected.
I repeat...DONT pop them yourself. And once they pop, for a day or two they are more susceptible for infection.
A reminder to all...please don't wear brand new shoes to Roo. Break them in first. and Bring antibiotic ointment and blister bandages in your first aid kit.
Last year, a couple months before Roo I bought a brand new pair of shoes. I walked in them everyday to break them in. They rubbed against my feet a little bit but I didn't think much of it. I brought them to Roo and after the first day, I had horrible blisters all over my feet. It was so painful. I could barely walk. I ended up missing most of Saturday latenight because I just couldn't stand anymore. I just about crawled back to camp. I couldn't get close to any of the bands because it was too painful to stand. This year, I'm bringing the pair of tennis shoes that I wore in 2008 and 2009. Even though they look rough, they have never given me blisters. A blister kit is a good idea. I think I'm going to bring one just in case. Last year was miserable and I don't want to go through that again.

That's messed up I'm sorry you had to go through that.. what kind of shoes were they?

I'm really hoping this isn't the case. They are starting to get smaller so that's good.
I'll definitely be bringing the rest of the moleskin I bought and Bactitraycin in case something like this happens on the farm. I bought a pair of closed toe crocs to wear there (only $15!) and wore them to an amusement park a couple days ago.. pretty comfy.
