So... my best friend is supposed to be going with me, and he's the camping expert here. Well, he's in the hospital (on his birthday, which is today) and is not sure if he is going to be able to make it. If he doesn't, I will be bringing my 14-year old daughter.
The problem is: I have no clue at all how to pitch a tent or an EZ-up. I mean, I'm sure it's not that complicated, but do you think it would be pretty easy to convince a neighbor or two to help me set up my campsite if I offered them some cash? How much cash should I offer for one tent and an EZ-up? (Note: I can also offer a loaf of home-baked Guinness with Molasses bread!) (And how the HELL will I fit everything into my Mustang?? No, it doesn't have a hitch on it. Nevermind, rhetorical question there...)
Kinda freaking out here. We'd planned on going up on Wednesday and camping in the handicapped area, but now if he does get to go, it won't be until Thursday at the earliest. Kinda late to sell our tickets. Would be a great bonding experience for my daughter and I, I think, but... I'd just not planned on taking her. I can count on one finger how many trips I've helped set up a tent for...

Tents and EZups are simple to put together. Did you think of trying a dry run in your yard or driveway? Before you get stressed out you should give it a shot. If you still can't figure it out most neighbors will help you for free. IMO I wouldn't go around offering money. Just share the shade and your bread.
You have time. Practice. Pull out that tent today and put the mother up. You can do it. You will have help from neighbors when you get there. Bring some cold beer for payment. And good beer, not Miller Lite.
Of all the things to keep you off the farm this should not be one of them. If anything I would be more worried about the health of my best friend.
I'm sure your neighbors would be more than willing to help you out for free out of the kindness of their hearts. Atleast I would. Especiallyif there is food involved.
If I were you I'd practice setting up your tent in your back yard BEFORE you get to bonnaroo so you know how to do it. It probably came with instructions. An ez-up is rediculously easy to set up. Like really fucking easy. You're a big girl. You can do this.
Getting that last notch in the hole on the easy up can be difficult for a female. (sorry, that sounds dirty). There will be plenty of willing hands to help you though. Don't get discouraged.

last summer (at a festival, but not roo) me and a friend set up a groups tent for no more than a beer for each of us... most likely everyone around you will be willing to help for free, just ask! if you dont think they'll do it for free, offer $10 and I can almost guarantee that they wont take the money.
but... i think that you wont need help anyways. setting up camp isnt that bad

I say dont bother to unpack your tent and set it up in your yard. Its almost time to go so just leave it in the pack. You will have no trouble finding plenty of people more than willing to help you set up your tent. In 2006, I remember laughing at some young turks trying to help out a lady. They could barely set up the tent themselves. No money need change hands.

Introduce yourselves to your neighbors right away.....maybe offer them some water or food or something in exchange for some help. More likely than not there will be people that will help you....probably after they are done setting up their own stuff. Show gratitude and offer to help them out in some way that you know how to and I'm sure you'll be just fine. If for some strange reason no neighbors will help you i'm sure Inforoooers will help if you just stop by camp inforoo.

I know we are all friendly and helpful and whatnot, but we can't coddle people in every situation.
It is both irresponsible and snobbish to go to a camping event without knowing how to pitch your own tent, simply hoping to pay someone to do the work for you.
You are clearly capable of following instructions (you can bake bread and register for a message board), why do you think you are incapable of pitching a tent? You said yourself that it can't be that complicated - isn't this a good opportunity to learn? Of course, you could just swing your mustang into a Home Depot and grab a day-laborer to follow you around all weekend.
Protip: If you are going to pay someone to put your canopy up, don't bother spending extra money on an EZ-UP.
