Let me first say that the Sports Bar was awesome! We discovered it on Thursday and it was like heaven. Airconditioning, full bar (well not full bar, no liquor or food), sports on high def tvs, shows from the stages and tents on their high def tvs with audio, darts, foosball, xbox (FIFA!), basketball goals, air hockey, and most importantly-outlets to charge my phone.
I was a little concearned with the lines going into centeroo in the beginning, but they were non existent for the majority of the weekend.
I didn't mind the dust like everyone else did...i will take that over rain/mud any day. The heat was a little brutal at times, but i'm from the South so I got over that by the first day. I can see people coming from diff regions or climates having a hard time adjusting though. The festival should've built more "art structures" to create shade.
My Thurs: After I set up camp, I went and saw the Futurebirds for the first time and they kicked all kinds of ass. I've listened to their 4 track LP for a few weeks and honestly was kind of meh on them, but their live show is on point.
Honestly, for the rest of the day I just chilled and got familiar with my surroundings.
I caught Band of Heathens late night on a smaller stage called the On Tap Lounge and they were awesome. I've seen them before, but I just can't believe these guys aren't bigger than they are. Unbelieveable musicians and great vocalists/harmonists. Good ol'Country Rock.
My Fri: I started the day off at the sports bar charging my phone and watching Bela Fleck and the Original Flecktone's set. Great, great band. I then walked to the main stage to check out Grace Potter's set. Same old, same old, but good stuff. Warren Haynes Band was quacking great. We camped close enough to hear the Which Stage perfectly, so we chilled there for Ray Lamonange. He sounded great, and played a great cover of Down by the River. Walked by NOFX on my way to MMJ. They sounded like alot of fun, but I wanted to get a good spot for MMJ. My Morning Jacked killed! This was my first time seeing them, and they were amazing. The sound didn't get dialed in until halfway through the first song, but was on point after that. New album heavy, but I love the new album and their set kicked ass. Caught Primus from the camp site. Les Claypool is a great player (a little showy), but I am just not a fan of these guys. Completely skipped out on Arcade Fire, but heard from everyone that they were great. Caught Bassnectar for a little while, but I wasn't on NO NO WORD!!! and he gets old to me. Walked over to Big Boi and listened to Outkast songs for about an hour. Went over to Pretty Lights, but he was late coming on and I lost interest and went to bed.
My Sat Sports Bar-charged phone/played darts Missed Old Crow Medicine Show-only real regret of the weekend Went and saw Deer Tick and they were quacking awesome. They destroyed their tent. They played a couple cool covers, and a Middle Brother song (middle brother) Walked by and checked out Portugal, the Man and they sounded really good. Went over to Mumford and Sons to see what they were all about. The crowd they drew was the largest I saw all weekend. It was miserably packed and I see no reason they shouldn't have been on the main stage. Listened to The Black Keys from the camp site. They played a great set with all the hits and a Star Spangled Banner Then I saw Buffalo Springfield...I was so pissed at the sound on The Which stage for them. They were barily audible. Half the show the crowd was chanting "Turn it up, Turn it up". As the show went on, it got better. Mr.Soul was great, and Rocking in the Free World>Rockin reprise was completely awesome and one of the coolest things i saw at the fest. This was also the only rain we saw all weekend. I sat out of Eminem Dr. John and the Meters was BADASS. The Meters came out and jammed for a little while and played some great tunes. They took a mini "setbreak", and Dr John came out with the Meters and they killed it. One of my favorite sets of the weekend. Went back to the campsite to hear SCI. I then crashed. I heard STS9 played till 7am or so.
My Sun The festival had a great vibe on Sunday. Real laid back, and you could tell alot of the crowd had left. I watched Railroad Earth from the bar. They were good as always Bruce Hornsby was awesome....he was up there taking requests and you could tell he was grateful to be there. He thanked the crowd and said that he would come out later with a diff band. We all assumed it was for the superjam. JB Solo-this was a great time. MAYBE 80 people there. Just really cool to see him (and Hannah) in this setting. Walked over and checked out Greg Allman. We walked over just in time to hear "She aint no angel", haha. He then went through some new songs, and I had enough. I needed a rest at that point. Went and saw the last few Robert Plant songs on our way to stand in line for the pit for Panic. He has a great band up there with him. Caught a Ramble On, so I can say I heard his voice at least once in my life. Panic-I had a great time, and thought the playing, and the song selection (for the most part) was great. A great end to the festival by my favorite band
