The first Vineland Music Festival is scheduled for Aug. 8-10 on a 570-acre farm near Sherman Avenue and Hance Bridge Road. Festival organizers expect 20,000 to 30,000 people to attend the three-day festival.
Much like Bonnaroo, many concertgoers are expected to camp out for the entire three days of the Vineland Music Festival, organizers said.
Festival Republic is not involved in running Bonnaroo, but the company's managing director, Melvin Benn, has helped organize the annual Reading Festival in Reading, England, since 1989.

The mayor of Vineland has stated that they could easily handle the anticipated 25-35k, but are prepared for up to 50k, and have experienced crowds of close to 100k (attendance counts from a local balloon festival). The 100k number keeps getting bounced around because: 1) they've got an ass-load of land - 500 acres (for comparison, Bonnaroo's is on 700 acres). 2) the organizers are most famous for running ginormous (80k+) events. 3) big festies are very 'in' this year

what types of bands do you think they'll get to play that - do you think the lineup will be like the big 4 - bonnaroo, lolla, coachella, acl - or do you think it will be like smaller fest lineups like - all good, 10klf, gotv, echo, sasquatch, waka....

in and article in the Philadelphia Inquirer it said they're expecting a crowd of over 150,000 over 3 days. I live about 20 minutes from Vineland and I think that number is impossible.
"According to The Daily Journal RHCP could be the headlining band for the Vineland festival that would be held in Vineland, New Jersey, USA; following the pattern of UK’s famous Reading Festival."

what sort of bands are they planning on booking? i mean, if the lineup is strong enough for me it would be much easier to get to than bonnaroo meaning i could go in addition to or instead of.

C3 Presents, the Texas-based company that brought Lollapalooza to the Chicago lakefront in 2005, announced Tuesday that it would partner with Festival Republic, the company behind several huge European festivals, to stage the Vineland Music Festival in Vineland, N.J., on Aug. 8-10, 2008. The festival will be held on a 550-acre private farm within an hour’s driving distance of New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Lollapalooza is scheduled to return for its fourth year at Grant Park on Aug. 1-3. “I want to communicate to the citizens of Chicago that Lollapalooza is Chicago’s,” said Charlie Jones, one of three C3 partners. Plans for a Philadelphia area music festival fell apart last week after a year of negotiations, he said. “It was never going to be called Phila-palooza,” he said. “But things bogged down, and it made sense at this time to do this partnership [with Festival Republic], to service a broader area and a lot more communities.” Both Lollapalooza and Vineland will feature more than 100 bands on multiple stages over three days, and Jones predicted some “overlap” in the lineups of bands scheduled to play, including headliners. Though the events are a week apart, he said, they are strong enough to thrive independently. “They are nowhere close to each other and they will be different events,” he said. Vineland will bring in the considerable economic weight of Festival Republic, the European promotion juggernaut that has booked such major festivals as Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds. Vineland will be a camping festival modeled after those European events. Jones said the festival market is starting to approach saturation, and predicts there will be more festivals cropping up across North America in the next two years. “Seven or eight more festivals will pop up, and not all of them will make it,” he said. “The market will be spread thin, and the ones which are run the best, booked the best, will survive,” he said. C3 now annually books three major summer festivals: Lollapalooza, Vineland and the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas. Jones said he had no additional festival plans in the works for 2008.
I'm sure we'll cover it again. It was f**king AMAZING in Chicago. Not only that, we had some great perks. We had passes to the Spin/CKIN2U VIP Music Lounge/Blender Sessions at the Hard Rock. Free drinks and food from the China Lounge for most of the day and night, free tattoos from guys that I'm pretty sure were linked to Miami Ink (got mine touched up), gifting, etc... We were pretty drunk by the time we got to Lolla each day! Partied with most of the bands there. I am about 90% sure that some guys from My Morning Jacket sat right next to me on a couch and played an acoustic song. I gotta see if I can find the pic that I took.
Great news. I had a feeling that maybe we'd see a weak lineup and in turn a weak festival, but it seems like it's in the right hands. I'm only an hour away in Upper Darby so this will make a great end to my summer.
