I want to dislike the Shins so bad because it seems like Mercer treats the rest of the band like shit, but I just can't. I revisited their first two albums this week and they are just sooooo good.

This thread got me listening to both albums again for the first time in years. I like them both more than ever. I think there is a pretty decent chance they are on the farm. I know there is zero chance that I miss them at Deluna.

^I'm pretty sure their bass player was on their debut, then left, then rejoined the band a couple years later and is still with them. Otherwise I think Mercer is the only constant, yeah.

I like how we've all pretty much called this from day 1 and now with them being at Sasquatch and their date in Cleveland right before Roo they seem pretty likely. Would be pretty funny if they closed Which on Sunday too like everyone thought and we just had it pegged exactly an entire year in advance

I am thinking 'The Shins' are pretty much a lock. There is one thing I have learned since going to Bonnaroo the last 3 years. I live in St. Louis and the trend is if you are playing here around Bonnaroo time, you pretty much are playing Bonnaroo. Shins just announced w/ The Antlers (STL - June 4th). Roo Clue #7 very well may be 'The Antlers'. Not to mention sticking to this trend Radiohead, RHCP, Florence + The Machine, The Black Keys, and Van Halen all coming through Saint Louis months leading up to Bonnaroo 12. Just throwing that out there...

i wouldnt be opposed to this at all. decent band, good live. i never got into them myself but ive had a few girlfriends over the years that liked them. saw them at 99x jingle jam in 2007 and can say i thoroughly enjoyed the show. id see them perhaps doing a mid-day which show on friday or saturday.

Wow. It looks like we really did call this a full year in advance. Probably including their spot. Very well done.
On a related note, I saw them at Vegoose 07 (a SF/AC event) and they were disappointing. It could've been the dust/heat or that I was more ready to rage, but I got bored and left their show to check out Cypress Hill and Public Enemy. This is coming from a pretty big fan, too. All that being said, I hope they make a Roo appearance. Barring conflicts, I'd love to see them again and get a better show.

the first time i saw the shins was at webster hall in nyc in like 2004 and i came away disappointed - they sounded fine, but there was no energy and no stage presence. i gave them another shot at lollapalooza in 2006 and they were even worse. they still seemed like robots on stage, they didn't sound good, and the volume was way too low. i know it could not be their fault, but frankly it turned me off to them, that's how bad it was. my wife and i vowed to never spend any time/money on the shins live again. i hope they've turned it around for you guys that want to see them, but i'm happy that this means there's one less chance of a conflict for me at that pre-headline time on sunday. that slot always seems to be a clusterf.
