I will forever hate how artists from other countries have no concept that people south of Chicago might be interested in seeing them.
Edit: the Chicago date is the only one remotely possible for me. But its still a 16 hour drive* and the venue only holds 3,600 people. So that shit will go fast and money is tight. Grrrr #annoyed.
I know the new Thievery album is heavy Reggae, and while it's not my favorite genre, I don't have a problem jamming to that. The show looks like it's going to be pretty cool, and I've been excited for tonight for a while. So what did you think?
it was nice. got until the morning and Lebanese woman, there were only a couple of 'reggae' tracks, everything else was just that jamtronica with different world music bits. lights were pretty good, 2 drummers, bunch of guest vocalists to do all the parts (the Jamaican guy/girl, the rapper, two different female singers, and then some old white dude who came out to do the Coyne/Byrne songs). it was also packed, there were like 100 people at cherub in the same venue.
would definitely see again, LN festival set would probably be the move. also my first time seeing a sitar live.
Excellent. They never play here, so the fact that they are is exciting. I saw the collective once at Wakarusa 2015* and loved the show. It was hiphop, it was latin, it was reggae, it was rock, it was spacy, it was jam all rolled into one. And because all their projects tend to be completely different inspirations, shit is always varied up. So I'm happy about your review.
* Closing Sunday of the last Waka. My schedule was Particle > Greenhouse Lounge > Ozomatli > Janover & the reSUNator > Portugal. The Man > Lotus > EOTO > Thievery Corporation. The Thursday and Friday were bomb as fuck for me that year.

they played for a long time, probably a full 2 hours. I left halfway through the encore, realized I had left my card, went back and they were still going.
massive attack in boston on my birthday weekend would be pretty sweet. probably way too much to do MA in DC and then Big Ears, as fucking fun as that sounds.

if you mean by drive, yeah DC to Knoxville is a long haul
Anyone know anything about the venues MA is playing in Boston or Toronto. Considering making this happen for my birthday.
Wang Theater is a very large theater. The back half of the balcony is quite far away and the seats are very tight, but the front half of the balcony and anything down below is great. Just saw NIN there back to back nights.
The mezzanine was a fucking epic place to sit, but I was all the way to the left facing the stage. The 2nd night I was in row K (about 10 rows up) in the middle and it was a totally different experience but great in its own way. A little further back but I got the full visuals and more balanced sound.
The sightlines are great from pretty much everywhere, except I think the front row of the mezzanine can block your view if you're sitting and on the shorter side.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Still shorter than Houston to anywhere else. But I'd probably just try to get a connecting flight or something

To add on to this: the theatre is gorgeous, and the acoustics were solid during the couple times I visited in 2015.
I also heard that the seats were refurbished sometime in the past few years, so it has that going for it as well.

Ironically, you know someone doing that drive. Just sayin.

Congrats on the Tech N9ne win. The Thievery show was great. I was with my two boys who had seen them twice and once and their gfs who had never seen them before (both dug the show as well). They must have had 6 singers total, and it was a constant groove show. Preliminary plan for me was to get waxed as fuck and get down which was accomplished. This show was as packed as I can remember Joy Theatre. Luckily I am only the Passenger on a trip to Florida starting in about an hour.
