Unrelated to the upcoming shows part, but this was on Pitchfork this morning re: Jeff Magnum
On November 22, he will self-release a vinyl-only box set compiling the band's entire output, including fifteen previously unreleased tracks. The set includes 1996's On Avery Island and 1998's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, the Everything Is EP, an EP comprised of unreleased material, Ferris Wheel on Fire, a picture disk 7" for "Holland, 1945", a 7" featuring two unreleased songs, "You've Passed" b/w "Where You'll Find Me Now", a 7" that includes unreleased and live versions of the song "Little Birds", and two 24" by 24" posters.
HOWEVER
The site also notes that more dates for Mangum's current solo tour are in the works.
For the love of god, Jeff, please come to Chicago. Or fucking anywhere that's not the Northeast.

Wow! I'm a few minutes away from seeing James McMurtry perform solo and acoustic. This is my first show at The Continental Club Gallery on Austin. The venue is really intimate. It's like being in James' living room. I'm on a leather sofa 5 feet from the mic stand and his 12 string is sitting right next to me.

They're fantastic live, especially in a theater-type setting. I might see them in Chicago since I've also really wanted to see Local Natives, but that venue's sound kind of blows.
Really though, don't they have families? Or homes? It seems like they're always on the road.

They just postponed quite a few Elvis Costello shows. If anyone was hoping to go but had a conflict it sounds like they are going to try and reschedule them early in 2012.
I'm almost positive the final show is atl. My cousin said his band is opening for mastodon in atl on the fall tour.
red fang?
Nah. My cousin's in a band called Tiger, Tiger with Brent's wife. Apparently each band member got to choose an opening band for the ATL show, and brent went ahead and chose his wife's band. It's odd because their music doesn't really fit a mastodon show, he said they'll probably bomb. I think he said the Black Lips are going to be there too (which I found a little odd also)
