It would be a disaster for me personally if Wilco and Dispatch were conflicting, especially on Friday. I have a feeling I have a lot of company in this feeling so I'd bet the organizers wouldn't create such a direct conflict. If they do, that's a dumb move. People around my age grew up with both of these bands playing a huge part in their lives and seeing them on a the hangout beach, at least for me, would be an unbelievably incredible experience.
Wilco and Dispatch are pretty much locks for one of the two beach stages, and those stages never run at the same time. So I wouldn't sweat it.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Did anyone else notice the shuttle pass went up to $40 this year? But they also said it will be improved. Just an observation.
Is the shuttle necessary if your condo is walking distance? Where does it bring you that you'd need to go?
The shuttle definitely isn't necessary if you're within walking distance of the fest. I had buddies who were in the Seawind last year, 4 blocks away from the gate and they just woke up whenever and walked right in. Last year my condo was about 6 miles away near the Publix and the shuttle system was a disaster. The first night, my friends and I waited 3 hours to get on one, extremely frustrating. Don't take the shuttle if you don't have to.

Nope. We stayed about 4 miles East of the festival site so we took the shuttle. After Friday night's debacle on that route, we figured out a different shuttle to take which was much less of a headache. But if you are close, you are good to go without it.
First time poster but have been reading a lot and this seems like a knowledgeable place so decided to join.
Looking forward to my first hangout, wanted to go last year but pulled the trigger this year when I got a tip that DMB and RHCP would be headlining. I was wondering if the shuttle is the only real source of transportation or are there cabs? I'm sure they would be impossible to get if there are but just curious.
Also, take it for what its worth but my source has told me Tiesto will be added and will be playing a Thursday night show. Not sure where this will take place but this same source has been correct about everything he has told me so far

Welcome to the boards. Sharing info is a great way to make friends quickly!

Coheed is cool, I wouldn't travel to see them, but since they will be right there I'm def down. Their Voodoo '07 set was fuckin' awesome! Sunset before the Smashing Pumpkins, it was pretty sick.

This article is awesome but is it just me or does the author kind of puff up the bonnaroo lineup a bit? I don't see any bands on either lineup that would really make me say "Holy shnikes, I HAVE GOT to see that fest." Comparatively, I think the hangout did really really really well with their lineup considering its only the 3rd year they've been doing this. Part of the reason I feel somewhat defensive I think is cause one of my friends is going absolutely crazy over the bonnaroo lineup and its starting to get really annoying.
On another note, there was a live show of RHCP I recorded last night at some club in Belfast taped this past year. I've got to say, I'm kinda nervous. The new guitarist has a Hillel Slovak hair cut, which is really weird to me, and Kiedis and Smith looked old as hell. I don't know if it was the recording or what but they sounded really empty, especially on songs that should have punched me in the mouth.
I think I am the only one going to Hangout that dislikes Coheed. I've seen them play too. Just not my style.
i assure you, you are not the only one...
Yeah...I don't hate them, but I'm no fan. I saw them on one of the weirdest tour lineups ever. Slipknot, C&C, and Trivium...C&C did not fit at all, and the lack of energy (compared to the other bands) really ruined their show for me. I might give them another shot at hangout if there's no conflict in the schedule, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see them again.

I would definitely be on board for a Tiesto preparty. I haven't heard anything official but people are saying there won't be any late night shows this year. so maybe a big name preparty that runs say 5-11pm is the replacement? Tiesto headlining with some other djs beforehand.

Very interesting. Thursday eh? I wonder where it'd be. You'd think not at the Hangout site given the festival doesn't start until the next day. But then, there's really no good venue for Tiesto in Mobile, unless he were doing a tiny show (for him) over at Soul Kitchen.
As perhaps the only out of the closet fan of Tiesto on Inforoo, this would be fantastic news! Tiesto on the beach would be just great.
I got a text my friend weeks before the lineup was released because he knows I wanted to go and I'm a big DMB fan that said "DMB, Wilco, Dawes, Tiesto, Skrillex, Young the Giant all booked for hangout".
Recently talked to him and asked about Tiesto and he said its still confirmed and it would be Thursday...thats all I know. He also told me Delta Spirit and said they are good live but don't know much about them.
Looking forward to Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers who I've only learned about since the lineup has been released.

Tiesto on the beach is an ancient South American tradition. Over in Troo Music Lounge they hate this guy, which me and the 200,000 Brazillians in exhibit A here don't understand. If Hangout supplies the Dutch DJ, I'll bring as many of the Brazillians as possible.
Here's also hoping for some Aussie acts. Xavier Rudd last year was the show of the festival for me.
As much and as long as I have been into EDM, I never really got into trance and never really cared for t-word (yes I call him that) or Oakenfold. Seen them both before, but just not my thing. What is the deal with them booking trance djs for Hangout Fest? I'm sure it will draw big crowds, but so would any big dubstep or glitch-hop act. I was not aware trance even had a big following anymore, but my view may be distorted by living on the Gulf Coast for so long where trance has never really been big. Personally I'd just rather see more LIVE edm acts rather than these "old school" djs. Might as well add AVB to the mix.
/end jaded old raver rant.
That said I'd still probably show up. I'm not checking into the condo until Friday, but I still plan on riding over for the night if the pre-fest party is worth checking out. T-word does seem a little too big to play the actual Hangout like Dumpstaphunk did last year, so maybe they open the tent 1 day earlier and do it like the late night shows last year?

Ha! The T word. Trance will always be popular, I think, but I might be distorted living in a continent where 80s rock is still big. Bon Jovi played in Santiago a couple years ago and 100,000 people showed up. I really like all types of EDM, and have even started to warm to *some* dubstep, but hard as I try, I don't think I can get into the Skrillex stuff, or even Bassnectar stuff that everyone seems to like. So aggressive. It's never been my thing. I really like the jamtronica stuff, and I love Pretty Lights with that old soul sound he throws around. The obscure stuff I like is more Latin beat drum and bass stuff, but my guess is that's not terribly popular stateside. Over in the EDM discussions in the Troo Music Lounge they are really into the bleepy bloopy stuff, and as much as I like listening to Flying Lotus on my headphones, that stuff just isn't something that makes me want to dance for a few hours. Electronic sure, but dance music? But hey, whatever works. Which live EDM acts would you like to see? Stuff like EOTO, or more bleepy like SBTRK? With SCI there I'm really hoping for an EOTO set. Love that stuff.

Me personally...these are some acts I'd love a chance to see at Hangout:
EOTO Araabmuzik (touring with Zeds Dead this spring, if u don't know, look him up) Break Science Glitch Mob Kraddy Pretty Lights (I would never turn down another chance at seeing him live) Ludachrist (like Girl Talk with balls) Pendulum (live) Conspirator (or any project with KJ Sawka on the drums) Justice Chase & Status London Elektricity (are they even around anymore?) Knife Party DJ Shadow Flying Lotus SBTRKT Big Gigantic MiM0SA Beats Antique Evol Intent Roni Size Z-Trip 12th Planet Borgore Skream & Benga Ghostland Observatory Major Lazer Rusko Gramatik Boombox Thievery Corporation DrFameus
There are a lot of great EDM/Jamtronica acts out there that would be great for this fest. I'm sure I could come up with dozens more if I thought about it long enough. Not necessarily big fans of all of the acts above, but I would definitely check them out if they came.
I love the bookings so far tho and am beginning to feel like the only person who is actually looking forward to seeing Skrillex. I know he's not for everyone, but the amount of hate he gets is unreal. I've had conversations with people who one minute were bashing Skrillex then 10 minutes later were going nuts on the dance floor to a track they apparently didn't realize was skrillex. I think a lot of the dubstep kids love Skrillex's music, they just don't want him playing it. lol.
You're not the only one who likes Skrillex, I dig his stuff too. Its really really different and I'm a big fan of all the noise he gets out of those dial up modems. I'll definitely be rocking out to skrillex in the boom boom room come May.
Big Gigantic is by far the best live EDM act I've ever seen. Everytime that guy hits the sax, the crowd goes absolutely wild. I saw them last year at the hangout and in my opinion he was the best EDM show they had there. Their funk is perfect for the beach and I really really hope the organizers book them again. If anyone gets a chance to see them, I highly recommend it.
